Chapter 7

Mia's POV 

Monday came and I got ready for school groggily. 

It was the first time I would be showing my face in public since Kai made the announcement, and I wasn't looking forward to what people would say. 

It was already a lot that I got taunted by my fellow pack members and students like me for not being like all the other lycans. I was weaker compared to them. I couldn't shift. And I didn't have heightened senses like all the others. 

But now that Kai had let it be known to the entire pack that I was his fiancée, even though I really wasn't, I had a feeling the taunts were going to get worse. 

Kai was deeply revered in the pack and a lot of people looked up to him. I was sure they must hate the fact that he “chose” me of all people to be his fiancée. 

I could just imagine the things they'd say to me once I stepped foot in school. 

I wanted to miss school today, but I couldn't. I had to go and see how Liam was doing. 

After dressing up, I went down for breakfast and the table was already set for one person. Kai was nowhere in sight, so I knew it was for me. 

I felt a bit relieved about not seeing him. I was still quite unsettled about the announcement and being his prisoner.

I finished breakfast within a few minutes, and I walked towards the door with my bag. 

Everything I needed to live in the villa had been provided for me. Dresses, shoes, books, jewelry, accessories, among other things. It genuinely made me wonder if I was actually a prisoner. 

But I was. 

The fact that my cage was decorated and shiny didn't make it any less of a cage. 

When I opened the main door and stepped out of the house, there were two big and burly men in dark suits and shades waiting for me. 

“Miss Mia, we will be escorting you to school today,” one of them spoke, and I nodded. 

They started walking ahead of me and I followed them to a sports car. It looked really fancy, unlike anything I had ever ridden in before. But I didn't have it in me to admire it considering the circumstances. 

The drive to school was quiet. When the driver finally pulled over in the school's parking lot, I let out a shaky breath before getting out of the car. 

I had deliberately worn a hoodie over my dress, and I pulled the hood over my head as I kept my head down. 

I knew it wouldn't do much to conceal me, especially with the two huge men who would be following me around, but I still wanted to hide my face. 

As I walked into school, I heard whispers all around me. People pointed fingers, not making it discreet that they were talking about me. 

My gaze remained trained to the floor and I had only one goal in mind: to make it to my first class without anybody coming up to me. 

But just as that thought crossed my mind, a pair of bright red heels with long beautiful legs stopped in my line of vision. 

I didn't have to raise my head before knowing who it was. 

My worst nightmare. 

Avery Windsor. 

“You dare to show your face in school after the nonsense you pulled over the weekend?” she asked, her voice raised as she cocked her hips. 

I squeezed my eyes shut as I made a short prayer to the Moon Goddess. I didn't have the strength to engage with Avery this morning. 

I raised my head and met her eyes. 

Avery looked stunning as usual. 

Her brunette hair was packed in a high ponytail, her face was in a beautiful makeup look, and she was dressed in the latest designer outfit. Her hazel eyes were narrowed as she glared at me. 

“Have you suddenly lost your ability to hear, you wolfless bastard? How dare you get engaged to Kai Voss? You shouldn't even breathe the same air he breathes! How the hell did your engagement come about?!” she demanded angrily. 

Avery was my classmate. And she had made it her life's mission to make me feel terrible about myself any time she set her eyes on me. I had been enduring her taunts for the past couple of years, never having it in me to stand up to her. 

But just as much as everybody knew Avery hated me, they also knew she admired Kai greatly and was obsessed with him. She was the daughter of the Beta of our pack, and she had made it known that she would ask her father to arrange her marriage to Kai. 

So suddenly hearing about him being engaged to me must have sent her into shock. 

“I'm sorry, Avery, but I have to get to class,” I muttered and tried to walk past her. 

But of course, she wasn't going to let that happen. She grabbed my arm and was about to drag me back when one of the bodyguards stepped forward. 

“Miss, get your hands off her,” he said, his voice chilly. 

Avery glared at him, refusing to release me. 

“Do you have any idea who I am? I can make you lose your job for speaking to me wrongly!” she snapped, but the bodyguard wasn't fazed. 

“Miss, I'm only going to warn you once. Whatever happens next will be as a result of your own actions,” he warned, and when Avery realized that he was serious, she begrudgingly let me go. 

“This is not over,” she sneered before storming off. 

I sighed as I adjusted the sleeve of my hoodie and the hood. All eyes had been on me because of what just happened. I needed to get to class. 

My first class of the day was physical education.

I made my way to the locker room and changed into my sportswear before going to the gym. The bodyguards stayed in a corner, never once taking their eyes of me. 

I could hear whispers all around me as we waited for our trainer to arrive, so the class could start. 

However, the person who came into the gym was the Vice Chancellor. 

“Good morning, students. I hope you're all doing well,” she started. “I have come to announce that you will be having a new gym instructor this morning. You all may know him as a formidable business tycoon, but from today, he'll just be your instructor.”

Students started murmuring upon hearing that, and my heart started racing when I realized what was happening. 

Kai had said he was going to enter Lycan Academy to surveil me in person. 

Could it be...?

“Students, welcome your new instructor, Kai Voss!”

My palms began to sweat as Kai walked into the gym, looking every bit the strict man he was. 

I should've known he wasn't bluffing when he said that. He was really here. 

“Good morning, students. My name is Kai Voss, and I will be your instructor from today,” he said, his voice booming as his eyes scanned the room. 

Finally, they landed on me and he smirked. 

“Today, we will start with hand-to-hand combat,” he said, and the students cheered. 

Kia didn't take his eyes off me for a second as he continued. 

“And I call on Mia Hale to start the class.”
