CHAP 7: Confession of affection.

After two days, Fidelia finally woke up. Her body ached so much that she felt like a truck had hit her. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Declan's handsome face. She thought she had just imagined it, so she closed her eyes to dispel the image of him in her mind.

"Fidelia, how are you feeling inside?"

But his warm, seductive voice woke her up, and she opened her eyes wide and looked at him intently—an awkward silence. Fidelia was surprised and confused by his appearance. Her heart almost burst out of her chest when she remembered his gentle kiss for her. She knew she had feelings for him, but it was wrong. This time, Fidelia decided to put an end to everything. She didn't want to hurt his wife and daughter. Because she also had to endure the pain of being betrayed by the person she loved by a third person. The thing she hates most in life is lying.

"Declan, thank you for saving me. As if between us, no one owes anyone. I don't think you should be here anymore."

"You want to chase me away?" Declan asked straight to the point; he approached her and said sharply: "I didn't think you would be so cold to the person who saved your life. Are you avoiding me? Why?"

Fidelia was about to turn her face away, avoiding his angry gaze. However, Declan kept her face, not allowing her to do so. He took a deep breath, adjusted his breathing, and said softly, "You know I care about you, don't you? But why do you want to push me away? Please answer honestly."

His and her faces were now very close, close by. Fidelia could feel his masculine breath on her, and the scent of roses on his body enveloped her, making her feel enchanted. Fidelia used the last bit of reason to push him away from her, she said softly, her voice a little melancholy:

"Declan, do you know that you treat me like this, which makes me very uncomfortable? Therefore, I hope that from now on, you will not come to see me again. I don't want anyone to misunderstand our relationship. I think you should spend time with your family, not me."

"I know what to do with my family." He said, almost shouting.

Declan heard her words, and his anger exploded, his chest heaving up and down as if trying to suppress his emotions. He pursed his lips and said sarcastically: "What I need to care about most right now is you. But what about you… you only responded to me with a nonchalant attitude. Do you treat the person who saved you from death like this? I am so disappointed in you."

Fidelia clenched her fists, resentment rising in her heart at Declan's harsh words. "So how do you want me to treat you to please you?"

Declan looked into Fidelia's melancholy eyes, knowing that his words had hurt her. He was silent for a moment to rearrange his words, so things didn't get worse. He gently caressed Fidelia's beautiful face and said cautiously:

"I know that, right? Please accept my love for you." His eyes shone with hope.

Fidelia was startled; she didn't think he would say that now. But somehow, she couldn't be happy. She didn't know he had feelings for her too, was it real or just pity? So what about his family? Fidelia shook her head; putting this crazy feeling out of her head, she mustered all her courage and rejected him:

"Sorry, I can not. I think you just misunderstand your feelings because I once saved you. It was just a temporary feeling."

Her blunt refusal broke his heart.

"Fidelia," He called out her name and said firmly: "I don't misunderstand; I know how I feel for you very well. I would never have saved you if I didn't have feelings for you."

Fidelia looked directly into his deep black eyes; she knew his words were sincere, not a lie. It made her heart flutter. However, she cannot take away the happiness of others. She absolutely wouldn't allow herself to do that. Fidelia pursed her lips, gathering the courage, to tell the truth, hoping he would let go of this affection and return to his family.

"Declan…I can't even though I have feelings for you too."

"Why not? After all, why?" Declan spoke in such a loud voice that Fidelia had to shout:

"Because I don't want your fiancée to get hurt because of someone like you and me. I see her; your wife is pleased to be with you. And I'm so jealous of that. I have developed greed; I want to rob you for myself. But I can not. Because of my selfishness, I cannot destroy another person's happiness."

Declan frowned, his face suddenly darkening. He asked in doubt: "What do you say? My wife? Did you see my wife? When? Where?"

Fidelia nodded; she swallowed hard to suppress her emotions and gave a wry smile:

"Yes. I came here looking for you in the middle of last week. Since those people smashed my workplace, I wanted to help James a little bit, so I went to the hospital to get back the money you said you would give me back. I accidentally saw you and your sister coming to pick her up. She is indeed a charming woman. I don't want to be the person I hate the most. So I cannot return this love of yours."

"You came to see me last Tuesday?" Declan asked Fidelia one more time. His face became radiant. Seeing his reaction made her even angrier.

"Declan." She called out his name in a fury, her eyes turning cold. She grabbed his collar, growled, and said, "Don't you understand what I mean? Why do you care about this? Did I come here looking for you more important than your fiancée? I used to think you were a good man, but maybe I was wrong. From now on, please don't disturb my life.”

Despite being scolded by Fidelia, Declan was not angry; on the contrary, he was happier than before. Because he knew the reason why she refused his feelings so fiercely? Thanks to this incident, Declan could understand a little more about Fidelia's personality. Sure, she was the woman he needed to cherish and cling to in any case.

Declan gripped Fidelia's hand tightly, looking at her lovingly. He speaks softly and attracts and moves people.

"Fidelia, maybe you misunderstood me! Could you give me some time to explain?

Fidelia coldly refused: "No. I don't want to hear anything anymore. The person who needs to listen to you right now is…"

Suddenly Fidelia's words were interrupted by a kiss from Declan. Fidelia was suddenly kissed, so her mind was completely blank right now. She rolled her eyes at him, her body tense, her heart rate getting faster and faster. It wasn't until his lips moved, brushing lightly over hers, that Fidelia woke up.

Fidelia couldn't control the anger in his heart when he did this on his own. Her trembling hands pressed against his chest and pushed him away from her. She yelled, "Declan, what the hell are you doing? You're crazy."

Declan looked at her with burning eyes and a seductive smile. A thrill was taking over his body as he kissed Fidelia's lips, as soft as jelly and sweet as candy.

"The girl you saw that day is not your fiancée. She's Alisa's friend and also my fiancée's sister."

"What? What the hell are you talking about? You're playing with my feelings, aren't you? You yourself confirmed that you have a fiancee, now you still want me to love you? Never expect that to happen. Do you know what I hate the most? It is the men who are promiscuous, despise love and do not know how to appreciate the woman next to them like you. Now get out of here at once." Fidelia said as if shouting at Declan's face. Her face was as red as if she had just drunk wine because she was suppressing the smoldering rage in her heart."

Declan paused for a moment, his expression suddenly changing. He sighed heavily as he prepared to tell her the truth. His voice became shaky, broken as if trying to suppress the painful emotions of remembering his past.

"Fidelia, listen to me. Actually… I used to have a fiancée. She and I fell in love and decided to go home together. But she had an accident on her way home on Christmas Eve and she didn't survive and was only a few days away from our wedding. I have money, I have everything, but I can't save her."

The room became silent now. Fidelia didn't understand why; her heart ached when she heard about his plight. That she misunderstood him, it turns out; he was more pitiful than she. Because there is no more tremendous pain than losing the most crucial person in your life, perhaps over the years, his life has not been easy; he must have always blamed himself for why he couldn't protect the person he loved the most.

"It's my fault. I shouldn't have let her drive home alone that night. That horrifying scene always haunts me; I will never forget the recollection of that day."

Fidelia actively stretched out her arms to hug Declan as if to ease the pain in his heart. She said softly, "No, Declan. Not your fault. I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the misunderstanding."

"Fidelia, ever since she left my life, my heart seems to have grown cold. I don't have any feelings for another woman. But with you, it's different. When I saw you, my heart fluttered."

Declan looked straight into Fidelia's eyes; he said honestly: "Will you accept being with me?"

Fidelia's tears had been falling ever since, her heart skipped a beat when she heard his words. She hesitantly said: "Are you going to accept who I am? My past is not good. So…"

Declan cupped my face; he shook his head and said soft, gentle words:

"No, I don't care about the past. I just trusted my intuition. You are a girl with a kind heart. Just that is enough."

His words seemed to break through the invisible wall that separated Fidelia and him. Fidelia fixed her gaze on him, noticing the genuine sweetness in every word he spoke. She nodded and hugged him without hesitation. Although she has lost faith in love due to past events, Declan has come to her side to make her believe in love one again. So she didn't want to lose this chance; she didn't want to lose Declan because he was such a perfect man and tolerant of her painful past.
