(Zara Lang)

There was a long silence between Eiser and me.

I froze when he suddenly asked in his hoarse voice, “Tell me who sent you!”

I saw his jaw tighten, and for a moment, I thought Eiser was going to do something. My heart pounded violently. I immediately became alert.

Eiser straightened his body, walked to the side of the room, grabbed his clothes, and put them on.

I was still stunned.

What was this?

Nothing happened?

Or was he just letting me breathe for a moment before finally destroying me?

I let out a heavy sigh.

I should not have let him go to the bathroom earlier. I should have acted quickly without giving him time to regain his senses.

I guessed he had soaked himself with cold water in the bathroom to wash away the effects of the alcohol. I regretted how foolish I had been about alcohol.

I knew for certain that Eiser was now trying to regain control of himself so he would not make a mistake. I admitted it—he had won this round.

He had even accurately judged me and figured out my intention. He was not wrong, but asking who sent me was where he made a mistake. Because no one had sent me. This was entirely my own decision.

I want a higher position, you smart bastard. So surrender to me and give yourself to me.

I wanted to curse at him like that.

On the other hand, I was also disappointed that the man had not touched me. I was curious what it would feel like to be with all those defined muscles on his abdomen. I was curious about him. It had to be incredible.

Oh my God! Get a grip, Zara!

I shook my head quickly, forcing those inappropriate thoughts out of my mind.

I lowered my feet to the floor and dragged myself up, standing beside the bed. Eiser was still buttoning his shirt, not looking at me again.

That position could have been my chance to attack him. But this time, I wanted to continue hiding my ability to capture criminals.

I was just a weak woman who worked at a nightclub, seducing men for money.

“Are you going to stay silent?” Eiser’s voice startled me.

“About that…” I was confused about how to answer.

The man had already turned around and was staring at me sharply. He was waiting for my answer with his firm jaw clenched. His gaze was filled with intimidation.

I almost forgot how to breathe normally.

“I… about that… I’m sorry, sir. I don’t dare to tell you. I just need money.”

I gave up. I truly gave up.

I could not possibly tell him that no one had sent me. Not after he had already guessed my intentions. There was no way I could say that.

Following his assumption was probably safer for now. If he believed someone had ordered me to do this, then let him believe it.

After this, I only needed to become a weak woman who had been forced to take this risk. A foolish woman who was willing to follow orders for money.

Eiser grabbed his suit jacket but did not put it on. His eyes turned back to me with a strange expression. Or perhaps a look of contempt.

He walked toward me with an incredibly confident stride. Then, he threw a check onto the bed.

“Take it.”

I looked over and reached for the piece of paper with the logo on it. I was stunned when I saw the amount written there.

Ten thousand dollars?

While I was busy staring at the check, Eiser had already walked toward the door.

I immediately chased after him.

“Wait! I can’t accept this, sir,” I called out.

I could not lose him.

Not now!

The man stopped at the exit.

“You said you needed money. Take it.”

“I can’t accept it without doing anything.”

Eiser turned around, his face slightly displeased. He scanned me from head to toe with his eyes.

“You don’t have to do anything. I don’t like playing with a slut.”

Okay, that was incredibly harsh and insulting.

After all the insults I had received from him tonight, this one hurt the most.

I was amazed that I could still hold back my emotions and not explode.

This man was truly a bastard. He treated women like trash that could be thrown away whenever he wanted. Ah! I should have known that already, but I still wanted to complain.

Eiser left just like that, disappearing behind the hotel room door.

I remained frozen where I stood. The check in my hand was crushed until it was no longer recognizable.

“Shit!” I threw the crumpled check onto the floor out of frustration.

My mission had failed.

  • Catch me, Mr. Eiser   Chapter #10

((Zara Lang))The abandoned warehouse in Kirell reeked of rusted metal. Dust coated every surface, making it feel like the perfect place to dump a body.I was already crouching beside the corpse, examining every inch of a wanted fugitive. According to the forensic team's report, his name was Markov, a Russian drug kingpin."Cause of death?" I asked one of the forensic investigators. The man removed his latex gloves before answering, "We can't determine it yet."I raised an eyebrow."No stab wounds or gunshot wounds?" I asked again. He shook his head."What about blunt force trauma? Any fractures?""None. His bones are intact. There are no signs of struggle on his hands or beneath his fingernails."I paused to think."What if he was strangled?" I suggested, considering another possibility."There are no bruises on his neck. His hyoid bone appears intact as well, but we'll need to confirm that during the autopsy."After hearing the forensic report, I shifted my gaze to Markov's face. Hi

((Reins Eiser))I had no idea why I asked that question.Something about her still didn't sit right with me. I couldn't shake the feeling that she didn't belong in this bar. Yet after checking her profile, everything matched perfectly. Her photo, her personal information, even her home address.I'd already ordered Reynald to investigate her. He found nothing suspicious.Just the truth.Arabella Baker, known as Bella. Twenty-four years old. Born in Greyford. Currently living in a shared house on the outskirts of Arven City."Why were you looking for me, Mr. Eiser?" she asked softly, her voice drawing closer.Without hesitation, she sat beside me. One of her hands slowly reached toward me."Don't touch me."My warning stopped her immediately. She obediently withdrew her hand before picking up the whiskey bottle instead. She poured another drink into my glass.So... she was trying to get me drunk again, just like yesterday. Not happening.I placed the glass back on the table without taki

((Reins Eiser))One thing I hated about Lucas Stone was how effortlessly he managed to calm me down. Still, I couldn't deny that he was exceptionally good at running the company."Every order has been carried out exactly as instructed, Mr. Eiser," he said, offering me a firm handshake.I accepted it. White Wolf Holdings was the perfect company for this operation."Make sure everything is spotless," I said in a low, measured voice. "Don’t make a mistake."Lucas gave a respectful nod.The meeting ended quickly. As always, Reynald escorted me to the private exit. That was when I saw her. The woman. The hostess from the nightclub I frequented. She actually thought a pair of glasses was enough to keep me from recognizing her.Who the hell was she?She even knew about my connection to White Wolf Holdings. Now I was even more curious about who had sent her.I let her follow me, for now.Reynald opened the car door for me, but it seemed he'd noticed her presence as well."We're being followed

  • Catch me, Mr. Eiser   Chapter #7

((Zara Lang))It was Friday morning, and I was still in the same spot.I sat in the passenger seat of Danny's Jeep, my eyes fixed on the towering headquarters of White Wolf Holdings.Danny let out a long sigh.“You're about to burn a hole through that building, Z,” he said sarcastically.I blinked. Danny and I had been watching the company for three days now. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary. Everything operated just like any other major corporation.“Are you sure this company is connected to Reins Eiser?” I murmured.“If you're asking me, my answer is I don't know. I'm only here because this was your idea, remember?”Danny started grumbling again. All he'd told me was that every victim had some kind of connection to Double W.I was the one who jumped to the conclusion that they had to be involved, just like Eiser.“Zara, I know I'm your subordinate, but acting on nothing but intuition isn't exactly how we do things.”I knew that. The truth was, I just couldn't let go of my frustrat

((Zara Lang))What else am I supposed to do?That question had been circling in my head for the past thirty minutes. It was infuriating. I was still angry.Failure wasn't anything new to me when it came to missions. But for some reason, this failure stung far more than the others. Eiser had gotten under my skin like no one else.I jabbed the elevator button harder than necessary, as if taking out my frustration on it. My blood was still boiling. Just thirty minutes ago, a devastatingly handsome man looked like he wanted me more than anything. Then that same man threw me away.God.I growled inwardly.I had been so close to getting Eiser to let his guard down. Just a little longer, and I could have started digging for information about where he kept the evidence of all his crimes.I was also convinced he was behind the string of serial killings that had dominated the news lately. Every victim had one thing in common—they were all connected to Eiser. There was the city's biggest drug kin
