Serena’s POV

I stared at Lucan as he held the blade in his hand. The blood was still dripping from where he cut himself. My heart was beating so fast I thought it might jump out of my chest. The smell of his blood filled the room and it made me feel sick.

“What do you mean by healing me completely?” I asked him again. My voice was shaking and I tried to hide how scared I was.

Lucan smiled at me but it wasn’t a nice smile. It was the kind of smile that made me want to run away and hide. “You just need to trust me, Serena. I told you already.”

“But I need to make sure it’s safe,” I said. “I need to know it won’t hurt my baby.”

He laughed and the sound echoed around the room. It was a cold laugh that made my skin crawl. “It’s going to be painful, yes. But it will be worth it. You’ll see.”

I put my hand on my stomach where my baby was growing. “I can’t risk anything happening to my child. Please, just tell me what you’re planning to do.”
