LOGIN“He deserves to die the most horrible death known to mankind!” Selene slammed the glass on the table.
Amara had just finished telling Selene what had been going on for the past month and how she had hit rock bottom in her marriage.
“Tell me about it!” Amara sighed.
“You know what? Fuck Brandon and his bitch! Let’s have fun and get laid.” Selene said, standing up to pour her best friend another shot.
Amara stared at her in horror. “Selene! I’m a married woman, please.”
“That’s not marriage, babe. Trust me, you deserve better!” Selene encouraged as she stretched her hand with the vodka shot in her hand.
“Do I?” she asked more to herself than to Selene.
Amara had always been reserved and never did anything against the book of conduct made by her mother, but that day, and for some unknown reason, she wanted to live. She wanted to forget the pain and just enjoy life even if it was for one day.
She grabbed the shot from Selene and drank it. “More!” She screamed as the hot liquid warmed her chest.
Selene giggled and grabbed more shots until they were completely wasted. The VIP club seemed to start getting full, and the music became too loud for Amara, because she had never had alcohol before; she was a lightweight weight and a few shots got her extremely drunk.
“I need to pee!” She screamed over the speakers.
“Go upstairs! I think my legs can’t move!” Selene shouted back.
“Which door?” Amara asked.
“The first one on the right!” Selene responded as she placed her head back on the table.
Feeling dizzy and unable to stand steadily, Amara grabbed the table and laughed like she had just heard the joke of the century. With wobbly and shaky legs, Amara made her way upstairs.
Her phone rang when she had reached the last stair and groaned when she picked up,
“What!” She hissed into the phone.
“Amara? Where the hell are you?” Her mother, Lauren, asked.
The loud music in the background got even louder, but Amara was too drunk to care. A smirk spread across her lips when she thought of a sassy reply, “I’m at the office.”
“Don’t play jokes with me, young lady! Brandon has been here for an hour- Are you at a club?” Disbelief was evident in Lauren’s voice.
“Are you disappointed? I’m sorry, Mum, I think I’m too tired to be perfect today.” Amara slurred as she leaned against the wall for balance.
Lauren looked at Brandon, who was wondering why she had mentioned the words ‘ Bar’ and ‘Amara’ in the same sentence.
After hitting her, he had felt guilty and returned home to apologize, but couldn’t find her. He called the office but was told that she had not reported that day. Brandon panicked and rushed to Amara’s parents' house, but was once again disappointed when he didn’t find her.
“Sobber up and get here right this instant!” Her mother moved away from Brandon and hissed into the phone.
“No can do, talk to you later,” Amara responded and switched off her phone.
“He must be wondering if I told my parents about his little extracurricular activities!” She mused to herself as she moved away from the wall.
As Amara looked in the passage, no door had a sign of a toilet, and she had to pee very badly.
“Great! Oh, I can’t remember what Selene said - Oh!” Her smile increased, “She said, Last one on the left!”
With her vision starting to spin, Amara held onto the wall and walked to the last door of the passage. She tried to turn the doorknob and entered the room, but surprisingly for her, it looked like a room and not a toilet.
“Who are you?” A man’s voice she didn’t know asked.
Amara squinted her eyes and looked around, ignoring the man’s question.
When she saw one open door, her eyes brightened,
“Found it!” She rushed to the bathroom and did her business. When she tried to stand, her stomach was tied into knots as she immediately bent over the sink and vomited every liquid she had in her body. The fact that she skipped breakfast didn’t help her situation.
“This is crazy! I’ll have to fire some people!” Asher sneered as he watched with a disgusted look. But when he turned to Lucian, he was shocked to find him smiling.
“That won’t be necessary.” He said, still looking in the direction of the bathroom.
“What do you mean? Do you know her?” Asher asked while Amara was still making puking sounds while she groaned from emptying an already empty stomach.
“Yep.” Lucian stood and grabbed a towel.
“Who's she?” Asher asked, still unable to believe that his best friend, who acted like he was allergic to women, was smiling at one.
“My future wife. Now get out!” Lucian said and walked in the direction of the bathroom
“Amara?” Lucian called when he returned from the call and found that she wasn't in the water anymore.Silence.Lucian panicked and ran straight to his room and found it empty. He then ran to her room and found her cuddled on the bed with the lights very deemed. His pounding heart seemed to slow down the moment he saw that she was alive and safe. However, his brows met in concern when he noticed how she had shut him off. He was about to take a tep forward when she spoke, “I just want to be left alone, please.”“Is there anything else I can do to make you feel better?” He asked softly.“Not right now.” Amara’s voice was clipped and cold. Lucian nodded as he turned and shut the door softly behind him, hoping the following morning would be better, but he couldn’t have been more wrong. The days that followed were worse, and Lucian felt she had started slipping away.It began with small things—Amara’s absent-minded nods, the way her laughter faded into polite smiles, the way her warmth seem
Brandon froze at the sound of the voice, his grip loosening slightly. Slowly, he turned his head to see Lucian standing in the doorway, his face carved in fury, his eyes a storm of rage, and a gun leveled directly at Brandon’s head.“I warned you,” Lucian growled, his voice low and lethal. He stepped forward, his finger itching on the trigger. “You just couldn’t stay away.”Brandon smirked, trying to mask his fear. “Oh, look who finally decided to show up. What’s the matter, Lucian? Scared I’ll tell her the truth about you?”Lucian didn’t answer. Instead, in one swift move, he holstered the gun, lunged forward, and grabbed Brandon by the collar, slamming him against the wall with bone-crushing force. The room shook with the impact, and Brandon’s smirk disappeared as Lucian’s fist connected with his jaw in a brutal punch.“You dare lay a fucking hand on her?” Lucian roared, his voice echoing with the force of his fury. His fists rained down on Brandon, each strike harder and more mercil
“Thought you could run from me?” he mocked, crawling over her as she struggled, his breath hot and vile against her face. His hand moved, fingers cruelly tracing down her jaw, sending chills of repulsion down her spine. She summoned every ounce of strength left in her body, twisting and scratching, her nails catching on his skin, drawing blood. He grunted in pain, momentarily losing his grip, and she used the moment to claw her way out from under him. Her vision was blurry, her lip throbbing, but she refused to let him break her.“Brandon,” she managed, her voice dark and steady as she glared at him from the ground, “You’re nothing but a pathetic coward. You’ll never be an ounce of what Lucian is.” The anger in his eyes flashed, his fists tightening. She knew he’d lost control. But that was what she wanted. Because she was going to use the rage to blind him and then escape.“Maybe you’re right,” he hissed, grabbing her by the hair, yanking her close, his voice low and venomous. “But i
“Brandon?” she whispered, her voice barely more than a strangled gasp. What the hell was he standing in front of her for? “How’d you get out?” She asked, her voice laced with irritation. His eyes were red, and he smelled like alcohol. That made sense because there was no way he would visit her in his right mind after escaping prison unless he had been watching her.Waiting for a moment when she was all alone.“Miss me, baby?” he asked. His once bright brown eyes now dull, and his teeth yellow. He looked completely different from the man she was married to.. He took a step forward, and she backed away instinctively, her heart pounding in her chest. “But why don’t you look happy hmm?”“Brandon, you need to leave. Lucian will be here any minute.” She said, hoping he wouldn’t see through her lie.Brandon paused, “You do care for me don’t you baby? That your little ass boyfriend will find me with you. Hahaha. But you see babe, we have two problems.” He ran his filthy hand across her che
“Hey you?” Amara smiled into the phone. After the crazy day she had, only Lucian’s voice could make it better. Unknown to her, his day wasn’t so great either, so he had called her because her voice always made him feel better. It was like a soothing tonic with a special formula. “How’s my girl?” His deep voice reached her ears, making her lips curve into a shy smile as her face reddened from blushing.“She’s good. How’s her ma..” She stopped herself and bit her bottom lip.Would he get mad if she called him her man? The thoughts raced through her mind, and she hesitated, hoping he hadn’t picked up on her slip. She could almost picture his smirk on the other end of the line, a knowing glint in his eyes or worse, a look of disgust, and that made her heart sink under her feet.. “Go on, finish your sentence,” he teased, his voice carrying a hint of amusement. “How’s her what?”Amara bit her lip, feeling both nervous and thrilled. She’d never said it out loud before, but maybe now was t
“Thank you for meeting us, Miss Ashford.” One of the directors smiled.Amara leaned back in her chair. She knew the men sitting before her were not in the slightest way interested in her well-being. But they were interested in the company because they had dedicated their entire lives to it.“The pleasure is mine, Mr. Wellingtone. I know how much you truly love the company, and I want to assure you that I'll work my hardest so the divorce doesn’t cause us problems.” Amara smiled, but Bob was a long way from showing her smiles. He was all business, all the time.“That’s good, but your divorce and whatever has gone wrong in your life is the least of my concerns. Your mother’s scandal, however, is another issue because it has made us take a hit due to our merged companies. How do you plan on fixing that?” He asked, threading his fingers together as he spoke.Amara leaned back in the chair, her eyes blazing with fire as she responded, “Then we change the management. Brandon has to go, too,
