DECIDING TO STAY

AURORA

It's fucking getting to my head.

The tight, desperate hold around my chest suddenly feels less like a mother's embrace and more like a vice squeezing the air straight out of my lungs.

I breath in and out. My chest begins to heave and I can feel my ribs expanding against the crushing weight of everything happening at once. I can't breathe.

Greta's floral perfume plus the dampness of her tears against my neck is too much. It's way too much.

"I... I can't," my voice

101KNIGHT IN SHINING AMOUR AURORA I look down at the steaming mug of ginger tea, watching the tiny swirls of steam rise into the morning air. I won't lie, the moment the warm scent hits my nose it does sooth the leftover nausea."Greta," I start, my voice quiet, barely louder than the rustle of the wind through the garden leaves. I take the tray from her hands, setting it down on the small patio table beside us. "I... I'm sorry about last night. For what I said about the food. I shouldn't have told you to trash it."Greta’s eyes softens instantly. "Oh, Aurora, sweetie, no. You don't ever have to apologize to me. Not for that, not for anything.""I'm just..." I swallow past the tight knot in my throat, wrapping my cold fingers around the warm mug. "I'm just so overwhelmed. Everything is moving so fast, and my head feels like it's going to split open.""I know, my darling," Greta says softly, reaching out as if to touch my arm, but catching herself and pulling her hand back to give m

  • Fake Dating The Hockey Captain AKA My Roommate   100- JULIAN

AURORA I take a slow step back, my eyes still on her frame. "Greta?" I whisper. Her eyes flutter open instantly, as if she has been waiting for the lightest sound to wake her. She blinks up at me through sleepy, bloodshot eyes, disoriented for a fraction of a second before her gaze locks onto my face. "Aurora!" She scrambles up off the floor, wincing slightly as her knees pops. She smoothes down her cardigan, looking utterly mortified. "Oh, sweetie... I'm so sorry. I didn't mean to startle you. I didn't want to make you feel uncomfortable.""What... what were you doing sleeping on the floor?" I ask, my hands clutched tightly at the sides of my dress. "Why aren't you in your room?"Greta offers a small, self-deprecating smile, her eyes searching mine. "I... I was terrified you'd wake up in the middle of the night and try to slip away. Or that you'd wake up sick, or scared, and feel like you were all alone in a stranger's house." She swallows hard, taking a half-step toward me before

  • Fake Dating The Hockey Captain AKA My Roommate   099- SLEEPING OUTSIDE

099SLEEPING OUTSIDE AURORA Greta takes a step toward me, her hands still shaking, her eyes still desperate. "Sweetheart, please... she didn't mean that. She's just confused and overwhelmed...""And I'm not?" I scoff, shaking my head. Does it surprise me that her parents would condone this behavior? Not at all. "Aurora," Richard begins, stepping up beside his wife, his broad shoulders looking weighed down. "Listen to us. We didn't mean for tonight to turn into this..."I raise a hand, stopping them both in their tracks. The gesture is sharper than I intended, but I can't take another word."Don't," I rasp, my throat feeling like sandpaper. "Just... don't. I want to go to bed before my head actually explodes."Greta’s face falls, her glance shifting down to the covered covered tray resting on the side table. "But... what about the food? I made what I hoped you’d like. Soup, and..."I looked at the silver dome covering the plate, feeling a cold, hollow sensation in my chest. "I don't

  • Fake Dating The Hockey Captain AKA My Roommate   098- EMOTIONS

098EMOTIONS AURORA Jayden's gone, and with the pairs of eyes taking me in, I'm on edge and I'm suddenly feeling self conscious. Is my deciding to stay a bad idea? Am I being delusional thinking that this family is where I belong just because they think I'm their daughter? What if a DNA test proves them wrong and Malia and I just coincidentally look alike? What if at the end of the day things go south? What if this? What if that?My head is reeling with the what-if's. I'm so out of it. I know I don't know these people. Heck, I might be making a bad decision by agreeing to spend the night with them. I don't know that yet. But what I do know? What I'm sure of? It's that no matter what I do or how I hope it's not true... Richard and Greta are my parents and there's no going back from that.My reaction isn't how the normal average nineteen year old girl would react. They would freak out and bawl their eyes out. But I'm not doing any of that. That'll come when I have to sit and think

097CATCHING UP TO DO AURORA The four pair of eyes... Richard, Greta, Julian and Malia... watching Jayden's every move doesn't seem to bother him at all."If you're staying, then I'm going to head out and let you process all of this," Jayden says softly. "But I'm only a phone call away. You call me, text me, even just think my name, and I’m back through those gates in five minutes. Got it?""Got it," I murmur.Jayden doesn't immediately turn to walk toward his car. Instead, he reaches up with his free hand, his fingers gently cupping the side of my face. His thumb strokes over my cheekbone, wiping away the remaining dampness of my tears. Then, right there, with everybody watching us... he leans down and presses his lips to mine.Out of the corner of my eye, I can hear Greta catch her breath softly, and I know Richard and Julian are standing just feet away, taking in every second of it. Heat instantly floods my cheeks, radiating all the way to the tips of my ears. When Jayden finally

Greta's floral perfume plus the dampness of her tears against my neck is too much. It's way too much. "I... I can't," my voice breaks. I place my hands against Greta's shoulders and push back. I need space. I need air. Fuck."Aurora?" Greta gasps, her eyes wide and bloodshot as she's forced to let go."I have to leave," I say, stumbling back a step until my heel bumps against Jayden's shoe. He immediately reaches down, his fingers lacing tightly through mine. "I can't... I need to go. I have to leave.""No, no, please! Aurora, wait!" Greta steps forward, her hands outstretched, hovering in the space between us. Tears ar

003HEARTBREAK HIGHJAYDENI hate days like this, man.
