I follow him to a table full of guys. I recognize maybe 1 or 2 but the rest I’m clueless. “Okays here’s what we are going do we are going to make our new friend feel welcome and go around the table introduce ourselves and give a little information about each other” they all agree to it. “Hi my name is Cody Parks I race the number 77 sprint car and I’m from Albany Georgia” Cody says waving to me. “Hi my name is Evan Carter #54 sprint car I’m from Charlotte North Carolina” “Hi my name is Jordy Heart I’m from Binghamton NY and I’m team mates with Logan and I drive the #24” “And I’m Logan Valentine as he said we are teammates and I’m from this small town” Shit it’s my turn now isn’t it. “Hi I’m Shelby Cage I’m from this small town. I’m studying to be a nurse! It’s very nice to meet you guys” Talking to them was easy, they made me feel comfortable. I learned Jordy has missed a chunk of this season because his dad is sick and the prognosis isn’t good. His story makes me want to cry and hug him. Evan and Cody went to grab us drinks. There company is making me forget Ricky and his baggage. “Hey sorry I abandoned you my brother is being a hand full. He swung at Ian and it’s just a whole mess” Ellie is in tears when she reaches our table. I hug her and let her cry into my shoulder. “I think I’m going to take her home it is very nice to meet you all. I hope I can catch one of your races next season” I say draping my arm over Ellie’s shoulder. “Wait take my number and let me know when you get home or I will worry” Logan scribbles his number on a napkin and I take it. ————————————————————————- We make it to my car that is parked far enough away from the BBQ that no one will notice our exit until we are long gone. Once at my car I send Logan a text so he has my number. The ride to Ellie’s house was quiet she didn’t seem like she was ready to talk. When we arrive she stiffens and lets out another sob. “Can I stay with you for a few days” she asks her voice was shaking. “Did you really think I would say no? Of course you can stay with me as long as you want” I say. “I’m just going to grab some clothes and we can go” she gets out of my car and rushes towards the front door. Me: hey we just got to her house she is packing some clothes and is going to stay with me for a while. I text Logan because I don’t want him to worry. Logan: okay me and the guys are probably going to head out soon we have a race in NC in a few days. Do you guys need anything? Me: no I think I got it handled. I hope things with Ricky have calmed down! Logan: don’t worry Ian has more than taken care of his ass Me: safe travels and stay safe behind the wheel of all cars! I smile to myself talking to Logan is easy. But still my heart belongs to someone who always passes me up!
