Chapter 21

I grab a bottle from my cupboard as I don’t drink cold water after hours, it’s really not good for the body, a movement out of the corner of my left eye catches my attention outside my window, I place the bottle down quietly on the counter and ease close to the back door, I watch as Five wolves emerge from the forest and slowly creep through my backyard, they pause as though communicating with each other before branching off, One is heading to my house while the others continue down the road to the other houses.

What sort of covert mission is this? and how on earth did they manage to get past border patrol and into the packlands like this, I open my mindlink to the Alpha ' Alpha Teejan! ' he responds in a matter of seconds ' yes Roro ' ' from my backyard I spot Five wolves, there's intruders in the pack! one is heading to my house and the others have gone down towards other houses, send help!' ' on our way! ' he growled into the link before cutting it.

I quietly move around the house and go get my daggers and needles, I listen at the bottom of my stairs as my backdoor lock is being picked, so I presume the wolf has shifted back into human form to infiltrate my home.

I put my mask on and throw one of my potions pills on the floor by the door, the wolf pushed my door open and stepped in on the pill which released a knock out scent, he made two steps into my house before face planting onto the floor butt naked! and I still shot him with a tranquilizer for good measure before tying his mouth, hands and feet.

I look out to see warriors along with the Alpha and Beta fighting with other wolves in the street, there's at least Eight of the unknown wolves fighting and trying to get away and get back to through the forest, one is fighting with the Alpha and another shoots from the treeline and they don't see it coming, it's heading right to the Alpha who has his back turned, I shoot through my front door and make a beeline towards it, running with all my might, I know it would not be wise to call out to the Alpha because it may distract him from the fight he already has going on and the others are already occupied too.

I throw myself at the wolf just as it lunges and pushes it a few feet away, it shakes off and is about to attack me when I pull my gun out and shoot it, it yelps then falls to the ground, it turns back to it's human form dead and bleeding black blood?

By then the other wolves had either been killed or ran off into the forest wounded and being hunted by the warriors. " Are you okay Roro?! " " yes Alpha Teejan I'm fine " I wince after a minute, only now realizing that I'm actually hurt, the damn wolf scratched me " you're hurt " " I'll be fine, I've got first aid in my house " just then the others came back " they got away Alpha, it's like they just vanished, there's no scent or anything "

" Did anyone check on the border warriors ? because, how did they even get this far into the packlands undetected? " " yes Roho we did, they're fine, they say they didn't scent or detect anyone or anything crossing into the pack " " that's very strange, but we can ask the one in my house what pack they came from whenever he comes to that is " " there's one in your house?! " I rise to my feet and dust myself off " yep " we all go to my house and the Beta picks the unconscious man up by his neck and look at him " no scent " " they must be using blockers, wash him off with this " I hand them a bottle and the Alpha takes it and looks at me knowingly and sighs " thank you Roro, let's do a sweep of your house to make sure you're safe before we go "

They do a sweep from top to bottom and once satisfied that there was no one in the house they took the guy and left out the house, Alpha Teejan stopped and turned back at me " you did the pack a great act tonight Roro, had you not been around who knows what would have happened tonight, you have my thanks for saving the pack and for saving me, perhaps you being here is a blessing to us all " by here he means in this part of the pack.

" Good night Alpha Tee " " good night sweetie " they leave and head back, I lock up and head back to bed after having a shower and cleaning the wound with some herbs and bandaging it.

As I lay down, it comes back to me, a voice woke me up from my sleep but whose voice was that? I say in my mind ' hello? ' and of course nothing and no one answers me. I roll over and get back to sleep.
