"I'm still waiting for your response. If you dare end the call, it would be the last time I would have spoken to you. I don't care if you spend an eternity on the sick bed," Dexter warned his Father.
"Check your damn bank account. I just fixed your account. You're free to have access to everything I stripped you of," George disclosed.
"Are you serious? I just this isn't one of your tricks to lure me to the hospital?" Dexter argued. He was yet to understand how George made that happen so fast while they were still having a telephone conversation.
Still in doubt, Dexter received a text from his bank. It was a notification that his transaction had just been restored.
"I will be in the hospital immediately,"
Dexter assured his father and ended the call after the confirmation text from his bank.
"I will be waiting for you in the car once you are done," Kelly said.
He was about to leave when Dexter called him back. "Hold on a second. I can't recall asking you to leave. You are going to stay right here while I go upstairs to change my outfit,"
"I don't see that happening, kid. I am not your father that you order around. I've got integrity," Kelly declined.
"And integrity can't get you out of poverty? You must be the greatest fool of all time. I promise you, if you walk out of that door, consider this discussion over. You should as well tell my father to find someone else to sign the consent form," Dexter proclaimed.
Kelly was already halfway through the exit door when Dexter challenged him.
Majestically, Kelly walked towards Dexter like a soldier about to discipline a bloody civilian.
The way he marched towards Dexter, it was damn that a potential war was about to break out between them.
Staring directly into Dexter's eyes, Kelly said. "I may be poor, but I am still better than you. Being poor wasn't my choice. I've got a class. If you want to know more about me, go ask your father. I guess he should be able to tell you why my life hasn't been a bed of roses,"
"Whatever!
Who cares about your damn integrity? You are just covering up for your pathetic life. You should be ashamed of yourself." An epic comeback was for Dexter. It was as though he had rehearsed the punchlines earlier.
After the savage reply, Dexter marched to his room like a soldier had just returned from a battlefield.
Just when Kelly thought the exit of Dexter would be quite relieving for him, it became worse. He just can't get over the insult that was hurled at him by Dexter.
The insult didn't just penetrate Kelly's head; it also reminded him of the nasty decision he made with George that ruined his life forever.
"If I knew it was going to turn out this way, I wouldn't have assisted George with his exam," Kelly bemoaned as he regretted his decision.
That one bold decision he thought was the best thing that has ever happened to him, has suddenly become a nightmare. But on second thought, Kelly considered his late wife, who happens to be Ciara's mother. She was heavily pregnant at that time. Her parents didn't want to set their eyes on her. Kelly was practically her last hope. He had no choice but to accept the responsibility.
Engrossed in his thoughts, Dexter walked back to the living room all dressed up as though he were heading for some dinner date. His stressed face had become fresh and spotless.
"I am ready now
Let's go," he told Kelly.
He made a move to leave, but Kelly didn't. He stood there watching Dexter like a television.
"Are you deaf?
I said let's go.
What are you still waiting for?" Dexter repeated his utterances. He already assumed that Kelly didn't hear him the first time.
"Like this?" Kelly pointed at Dexter's outfit.
"What's your damn business about my choice of outfit? Oh, I get the point now. Do you think everyone will be poor like you?" Dexter started another drama.
This time, Kelly was smart enough to avoid it. "Never mind." He said and walked away.
"You're gonna drive behind me," Kelly decided.
"No, I'm not.
We drive In my car.
I can't let you leave with my father's car. What if you end up stealing it? I just don't think the car is safe. I still don't know why my Father would agree to let you drive his car. Damn! What was he thinking?" Dexter said. He was damn serious about it, even though he was smiling.
The insult was too much for Kelly. He didn't even know how to react to it. That was the only moment Kelly ever remembered that he was poor.
He tried to speak, but the words refused to come out. His lips suddenly became too big to move sideways.
He endured the insult and went to sit at the front next to Dexter.
"What do you think you're doing?" Dexter questioned Kelly. The drama didn't seem like it was going to end soon.
"Go sit at the back where I can see you from the mirror if you decide to steal anything. The front seat is made for wealthy people like me. Your kind should frequent the cab even though I know you can't afford it," Dexter insulted the hell out of Kelly without giving him a breathing space.
Quietly, without a fight, Kelly stepped outside the car to sit in the back seat of the car. The insults were too much for him to bear.
As they drove to the hospital, using Kelly's direction, Dexter pulled up in the middle of the road to stare at his phone.
Bewildered and clothed confused, Kelly asked. "What's the problem this time? Why did you stop the car? Did it occur to you that we have to be in the hospital immediately?"
"Shut up and let me think," with the whole of his voice, Dexter yelled at Kelly.
"I don't think I can make it anymore.
I've got a date with someone tonight," Dexter said while staring at his phone. He was uncontrollable. Kelly could barely even withstand his heat.
"What are you scared of? I don't bite. Come on, take the envelope from me and stop acting like a baby already. An officer like you shouldn't be fidgeting. Have you forgotten what I told you about being courageous? You never can tell, it might be your letter of promotion," Lucas said. Romeo saw that as a trick and refused to fall for it. Without hesitation, he went on his knees immediately and pleaded for Lucas forgiveness. "I am sorry for the things I did to you. None of them were intentional. I've learned my lessons now. Please, I don't want to end up like Tony. I deserve a second chance,"The dismissal of Tony still lives rent-free in Romeo's head like a movie. He wouldn't want his situation to be like that. "You don't want to end up like Tony, right? That's quite ambitious if you ask me," Lucas scoffed."I don't know what you are talking about. I can't recall what happened to Tony. Can you please remind me?" "You dismissed him because of Dexter Cooper, sir. Not just that, he als
"He needs to reach out to his Father. His Father is not even aware that he's been arrested," Romeo pleaded. He was ready to scrub both knees on the tiled floor just to prove how serious he was. "Now this is getting more serious than I expected. How much did Dexter pay you to do this for him? Because I mean, you can't go this for a total stranger you know nothing about," Rhoda confronted Romeo with the disturbing question."Excuse me?" Romeo fumed. "What do you take me for? Do you think I'm one of those hungry-looking cops out there who would sell their dignity for money?" "Perhaps, she might be right. No one knows the reason you are doing this," A masculine voice interrupted them from close range. The voice sounded like Lucas. Where Romeo was, he prayed silently and wished it wasn't Lucas. Lucas, so far, has proved to be Romeo's greatest fear ever. He wasn't even confident enough to look into Lucas' eyes and speak to him directly, let alone confront him. "Good evening, Boss. You ar
"I am listening to you Romeo. Since you got here, you haven't said anything worthy of my attention. I just hope I am not wasting my time with you? Because I was doing something significant before you showed up," Rhoda raised the concern. What Rhoda was concerned about was Romeo's lack of confidence. She didn't know him to be this shaky to the extent where he could barely speak fluently to save his life."Of course not. I assure you, you're not gonna regret having this conversation with me, and I am not even kidding," Romeo created the assurance. He paused afterward. Rhoda signaled him to speak further, but he missed the sign. Romeo made it seem like that both placed a bet on the last person to hold his breath for too long."What the fuck do you think you are doing? You've been quiet for some time now. I should have known that you were just wasting my time. What exactly do you want me to do for you? And I do hope it's something I can handle?" Rhoda asked for clarification. Romeo's a
Dexter struggled to keep up with Romeo's tempo. At the same time, he struggled to breathe properly. He hasn't seen anything like that before. The taunting from Romeo got into Dexter's head. But what was he going to do about it? Absolutely nothing! He was willing to endure the present struggle and hope for a better tomorrow. Dexter was quite aware of his numerous tortures in the hands of Jaguar and would rather not go back to that phase anymore. No one has ever inflicted so much pain on Dexter before since he was born. Not even his beloved Father or late mother.Jaguar treated Dexter as though Dexter were his biological son. It was an ugly experience for Dexter. He would give up an arm to forget about it. "Take a look at these bunch of keys. What do they mean to you? Do they ring a bell to you, or do you want me to spell it out so you would understand perfectly well what I am talking about?" Romeo asked, flashing the keys to the cell across Dexter's face. "They're the keys to y
"Welcome to your new cell, Dexter Cooper. I hope you do like it here. What the heck am I saying? Surely, are going to love it. I mean, it's surely better than your Father's palatial mansion, isn't it?" Romeo teased Dexter with a burst of wicked laughter after they arrived at a new cell. Looking at it alone, Dexter hated it. He chose not to say a word about it to avoid getting on Romeo's nerves. . It turns out that the former cell was more attractive and conducive than the new one Romeo brought Dexter to. The only difference there was Jaguar and his boys that made life a living hell for Dexter. Dexter spent lots of time scrutinizing in his new home. He was filled with regret and wished he hadn't wished for a transfer. But the thought of being beaten to death by Jaguar still scares him to death. "What are you going to say about this? You are taking too much time on something that isn't even worth that stress, and I don't like it. Are we going to spend the entire day talking about
"What do you expect me to do about this now? I still can't believe that are seriously seeking for my help. Everything is still a dream to me. Someone should please wake me up from the illusion before I go insane," Romeo said, slapping his chin to be certain he wasn't imagining things that aren't real. He still wasn't convinced about his decision yet. If Romeo was made to decide immediately without thinking about it, he would chose to walk away from the case just like every other cops. Not for once did Romeo liked Dexter. These two has got a lot of history together. Thinking about the nastiest things that Dexter had done in the past is making Romeo have a second guess. "Please, take me to a new cell. I might end up dead once you leave. These guys are threatened to torture me to death. Please come to my rescue. I don't wanna die," Dexter pleaded as hot tears rolled down his eyes. "You wanna be transferred to another cell? Now I see why you're being dealt with. What have you been
