In the Black Years, they came.

When we were lost, and the Shadows mocked us. With them came light and hope. Tell me, how do we repay the heavens for sending their angels?

[SHADE SHADOWS]

A strangled gasp tears from my throat as I fight for air, the feel of the cold hard ground beneath me as I stare up at the ceiling.

Blurry faces peer down at me, paired by distant sounds speaking inaudibly above me. Hands immediately come to my aid as my vision slowly clears, and with it, the desperate voices of the company around me.

Slowly, I make sight of Vale's, Eves, and Dula's worried faces, and yet whatever they are saying is drummed out by a low ring that reverberates in my ear.

I blink numbly my gaze shifting back up to the stony ceilings. The realization hits me just as quickly.

•|•|• There are no Saviors here. We all fear death. •|•|• [SHADE SHADOWS] MY FINGERS gently sift through the red littered in his dark locks, humming the old song softly. The world is silent, as if it too listens to the ballad my heart sings to him, but I am much more fascinated by the steady rhythm of his breathing to notice. He lies before me, his head resting in the drapes of my skirt, so beautiful that I find it bold that despair would dare touch him. That tears should dare bleed from his pretty eyes. My eyes trace every feature on his face, eyes shut, lips barely parted taking slow breaths in and out. I sit in the middle of the aisle, the ground cool beneath me. His head pillowed in my lap. He is calmer now, beneath my touch I can barely remember his anguish. He is at peace. Peace. It strikes me now that I have seen this version of my master. Lying in the field of flowers in my dreams. Serenity mirrors around him. My eyebrows slightly knit for I re

I cannot believe it has finally arrived.I thought perhaps I would be ecstatic, that my heart would leap with joy at the sight of the Noble carriage that drew to the front of the Night Court. For in it lies our supposed salvation. The ender of this Nightmare that grows steadily every day. But that has changed. Everything has changed now.I watch as the Alpha of the Shadow Pack, hobbles against his cane toward the carriage. My head tilts slightly when it opens and his Luna steps out.But she is not what was awaited. My mind is far gone in anticipation until she reveals herself—she who is betrothed, the light to lead us out of this chaos. Alpha Cains' Oldest daughter, Vivian Cecilia Pryd. She is a beauty to behold, even I can see that. Still, she is not what I study. My gaze shi

•|•|•They whisper things they think I cannot hear, they look at me and point. And yet, despite it all, I remain unseen. •|•|•[KAYOS ADREN PRIME]Color exists in this world. Even in my Court of Night, I have found it is simply impossible to be completely rid of. Often I have thought perhaps it is there to remind me I have not yet been devoured entirely by chaos- therefore hope still exists. Ridiculous...yes, yet still at the back of my mind, I've thought that this color lights a narrow pathway out of this darkness I have concealed myself in. A simple reminder that even the wicked and the cruel can be redeemed. Mm....Where is this color now? The world is silent, as the shadows deform behind me, the portal disappearing back into complete chaos. I do not remember how I tethered here. I am numb and gone all at once.A steady rhythm immediately sets in my ear, a heartbeat I am all too familiar with. My gaze rises at the sound, shifting through the dim candlelight of the library,

I note that they return clean as if someone had spent hours here.Perhaps Madam called for a maid whilst we slaves were away. I do not dwell too much on the mystery. I have too many mysteries to solve already. Above all else, I am simply grateful that at least work has been done. It is good, for I fear I am not focused enough to get much done today. My mind is plagued by many things. The guard, Dula- Pausing in the middle of the aisle, my gaze soars to the high ceiling and my shoulders fall in absolute confusion. I cannot- Selene,I cannot live like this. This- ignorance. I am no longer able to run from it. My gaze falls forward. I feel so small in this vast library. In this vast court, in this vast world. It eats me whole and here I stay. Chunks are mi

Her frail body is steadier after the meal, and her bath has made her look much less depleted. She sits on her knees, hands in her lap, staring ahead at the sun's light peeping through the window in the servants' quarters, quiet."All done," I state, getting to my feet. I offer her a hand she takes, standing up and examining her full attire—a plain white sheet, shaped into a dress. Still, she certainly looks better than before. I can see the softness in her eyes and the beauty that once was.I smile kindly, "Perfect."Her lips curve and her cheeks turn to a light blush."Madam Catherine,""Madam Catherine's here," the slaves gasp, their hushed whispers suddenly filling the quarters. My gaze flashes forward, as the other slaves move toward the front."W-What's happening?" the human asks. She looks bewildered. I
