06 : Terminate the contract

A week passes and Olivia has refused to step out of the apartment. Her manager, Harper had called and she informs him that she's unwell and would be needing some days off.

It's worth it. The incident that happened made her feel under the weather because she could not get the irritating image off her head. She thought about leaving but decided not to because it will be giving in to what the anonymous person wants.

Besides, Letters and gifts stopped coming since the police got involved and he left her with the thought that she's been watched. Why else would the letters stop coming as soon as she had it reported.. That's the more reason she doesn't want to go out because she's scared of what might happen.

But she won't continue to hide in her shell just because some random person keeps playing dangerous pranks on her.

Walking into the industry, her colleagues wouldn't stop asking how she's doing. Mr Harper must have told them that she's unwell.

She couldn't help but wonder if they were all just pretending to be nice to her and maybe one of them is behind the threatening letters. But the look on their faces says otherwise. They all look sincere in their approach and Maybe none of them is behind it.

With smiles on her face, she reciprocates their gesture then ask if Harper was on seat. She walks into her office after being told that he's in a meeting.

She presses a bell, summoning Mr Harper into her office. Meanwhile, Mr Harper who was in a meeting, quickly wraps it up and rushes into her office and immediately began to talk about business.

Olivia carefully looks at the letter, her eyebrow creases into a huge frown as soon as she stumbles upon the name of the industry.

It's only been two years but she can never forget, even if it's a hundred years to come, she'd never forget the name of the Industry Maynard works for.

Does Maynard know that she's back to this industry and is that why he wants to partner with her? Is that it? Is that his way of trying to make them see? How dare he try to do this?

She slams it back on the table, and pushes it back to Mr Harper, blinking her eyes rapidly.

"Am sorry, I can't take this. We have to decline it"

"Why can't you take this? The offer is huge and mouthwatering. Why can't you work with them? Why can't you accept it?" Mr Harper asked, trying to understand the reason why she's refusing such offers that only rarely ever comes.

As a matter of fact, he has been looking for ways to partner with this industry, now the opportunity is here and she wants to decline it?

Olivia inhales deeply, she stands up abruptly, takes the letter, tears it into pieces and throws them into the trash can nearby.

"Why did you...."

Mr Harper made to talk but she cuts him off.

"... That industry, it's the same industry Maynard works for. You don't expect me to work with him and you of all people should know why."

Mr Harper sighed, realizing why she did that. "I didn't know he works for this industry. I thought you moved past this already Olivia, we should consider the offer. We hardly ever get this kind of offer, especially when we're partnering with another industry"

Olivia sighs, getting really pissed off already. She would never get involved in anything that concerns Maynard. Be it a partnership that worth Millions, she would not think twice before rejecting it.

Besides, she's as rich as Maynard and she's not that money minded to just throw her dignity away and work with someone who did horrible things to her in the past.

"Forget about the offer Mr Harper but we are not taking any offer from this company and that's final. We don't need their money or anyone from there"

Mr Harper was greatly disappointed by her decision but once she has made her decision, there's no way he can convince her into changing her mind. He left her office with disappointment written on his face.

Olivia couldn't help it and she lets her mind wander off to Maynard. For the very first time in a while, she lets herself reminisce over it again. It would not be a surprise for her to know that Maynard and Vernes are still together.

She scoffs.. "Partnership my foot" She mumbles to herself and went back to her days work, taking her mind off Maynard and his letter.

Olivia gets home fuming in anger, she couldn't hide it anymore and the fact that Mr Harper keeps receiving their letters, annoys her the more. He should be thinking about her welfare and mental health and not his interest in this case.

Hearing Olivia ranting all by herself, Lucy steps out from the kitchen, wiping her hands with a napkin. She watched Olivia slump on the sofa and pulls her heels off, carelessly throwing them on the floor.

"Hey! You really need to learn how to keep your things organized." Lucy scolded.

"Ask about how my day went and I'll say it got ruined just because so.e pathetic fella had to send in a letter of partnership.."

Lucy was confused.. " Why would a partnership letter ruin your day? Shouldn't you be happy you got a new deal? Isn't that what you wanted? To keep getting deals upon deals?"

Olivia rolls her eyes...

"You know that's what I've always wanted but definitely not from the industry Maynard works for"

Lucy lowered her eyes and leaned closer to her and then asked... "Tell me what exactly happened?"

Olivia went on and on to explain everything to Lucy who listens with rapt attention.

"You mean to say Maynard actually wants to partner with you?"

"Ugh... I hate that this has to happen now. Why does it have to be now and you know the worst part, am sure he won't give you until he gets what he wants".

Lucy sighs.. "Could it be that he already knows you're back to the industry?"

"I doubt that but heck, it's so annoying"

Lucy became silent but only kept clearing her throat noisily and feeling uneasy. Olivia notices this and asked.

"Recall that night we went to the bar and you said you had a weird dream concerning Maynard..." She paused and studies Olivia expression but she could not tell what's going through her mind right now, anyways, she continued.

"I lied. It was likely you bumped into Maynard at the bar. The press came over and began to make a fuss about Maynard been present at the bar and I got scared you both might see each other. I rushed to the restroom and got you out of the bar. Sadly, you kept mentioning Maynard's name.."

Olivia's heart races from what Lucy just said. She hasn't recovered from Maynard's constant letters and now this?

"Why didn't you tell me the truth when I asked?" She asked, a pained expression settling in her face.

"I thought it was best not to tell you. I didn't want to reopen old wounds. I don't want you to go over what happened again.."

Olivia flips her hair backwards and facepalms herself. All of this really annoys her but seeing it from a different perspective, she can't get mad at Lucy.

Lucy only did what she did for her own good and it's not right to get mad at her.

"Don't get mad at me Olivia. I only thought it was best not to tell you. But what I think now is that fate is only trying to play a fast game on you both and if you want to continue being happy, then you should avoid anything that has to do with Maynard"

Olivia sighs deeply and stands up and walks to her room, without saying a word. She moves to the window, folding her hands over her chest and looking out into the night. Lucy should have just told her about it.

Suddenly, her eyes meets with a per of eyes right across the street, staring right back at her. It felt like someone was watching her.

She gasps and quickly pulls away, cold shivers running through her veins. Who was that? Who was staring at her from a distance? Could it be the...?

She gulps down. Summoning her courage, she glances out the window once more, only to find it empty. What the heck was that?
