Veronica’s POV
“This is Lady Jadeline’s brooch that you have asked for, Your Highness,” Eamon slid the small brooch across the table and I grabbed the golden thing to inspect.
The task I have given them during the Winter Trade Summit was to steal something she owns and has worn. Basically, a piece of clothing that can go unnoticed. After our debacle that same night, something as small as a brooch in her dress won’t be that suspicious to lose. We can’t take something that she will spot missing.
I’m glad they managed to work out and sneaked one.
“Thank you,” I told him and added, “Also Eamon…”

Veronica’s POVI woke up squinting from the light as my vision adjusted. A second later, a figure blocked the light from the windows. I met Sebastian's gaze.“Morning, beautiful,” he greeted and tucked a strand behind my ear.I couldn't help but smile at his sweet gesture and jested, “Not mad at me anymore?”Sebastian looked serious when he said, “I can never be mad at you.” Then he titled his head and pondered sarcastically, “Frustrated with your stubbornness would be the better term.”I laughed and nodded. “Okay, I deserve that.”“True,” he quickly responded.I gave him a playful soft glare. “Well don't get too comfortable about it,” I told him and dropped a light punch on his chest.Sebastian only chuckled in amusement and helped me sit up properly on the bed.The room was quiet save for the sound of winter outside. I could sense guards by the doors. A day has passed since the incident I stirred up.My wounds quickly recovered because of being treated and thanks to my lycan regener
Third Person’s POVIn the dead of the night, the halls were silent as the moon casted its light through the windows, barely reaching the darkened corners of the corridors.Inside Ruby’s old room before she got married, a hunched figure of an older woman moved in hurry and searched. She was rummaging through a hidden compartment tucked behind the tapestries in the lady’s private quarters.“An orb, a crystal that carries a swirling light,” she repeats as she searches through the stuff in the compartment. Her wrinkled fingers, still surprisingly quick, pulled the last clothing squeezed in the small compartment. There was no orb in this. Was Ruby mistaken? No, she couldn't be.Miranda—who was Ruby’s nanny since she was young and arrived at Eviera, was the person that the young Luna called for while she was locked in the pack’s basement.“She needs me to come through for her. I'm all she has,” she mumbles to herself and desperately scans the compartment again.Ruby was like the child she n
Third Person's POV“Perhaps we really were blinded by the truth—this is who Luna Ruby is.”A servant carrying a basin from the chamber where Queen Veronica was being treated whispered to the other maid beside her.“I guess the rumors are true,” the other answered with the same hushed tone. “Months ago, her aides said that recently, behind closed doors, she snapped at all of them, especially during a fight with the Alpha. It’s like she's directing her frustrations at them.”“It was obvious she doesn't have a rocky relationship with the king. We all know it's only because of her mother, Lady Jadeline, and her closeness to the Five Elders, why she became qualified as a Luna.” They turn to a corner down the hallway.“She cannot fill the big shoes left behind by Luna Veronica. Look at her now, after being banished she managed to become queen of a bigger pack. No ordinary person could do that! It was Eviera’s loss,” the other maid added.“Yeah. All Luna Ruby had was her kindness and being f
Veronica’s POV“W-what… what are you doing?!” Ruby almost moved to catch before I fall to the ground and clutched my stomach.I saw how horror and confusion warped in her expression. She paled and stared at me with wide eyes.“Are you out of your mind?!” She yelled at me and gawked at how I sprawled on the ground.I just stabbed myself with her poisoned wolfsbane-coated dagger. I smirked at her, mocking, “Oh but I couldn't stab you, sister. But then the dagger and your scheme will be wasted so might as well, right?”Ruby glared at me and slowly moved away from where she was previously cornered by the wall. I had to release her because of my wound so she is no longer paralyzed. She tried to leave towards the door.“I don't want to be involved with your craziness anymore, Veronica,” she gritted out as she glared at me.I found it funny how she seemed to be frustrated with something like this—something she has been doing to me my entire life.I held her gaze and heard the footsteps appr
Third Person’s POVIt's not just Veronica who has a trap.Ruby told herself, gritting in fury and anger once she realized that her ‘sister’ is trying to play this game with her. It’s now or never. She has to do something or else, just like always, Veronica will win and ruin her life.As the chaos from the new accusations subsided after their little scuffle, the figures of authority present declared Eviera go be locked downMeanwhile, the kingdom's warriors, along with their guests’ soldiers, continued suppressing the remaining rogues. They captured both the ones who infiltrated the palace and the others who wreaked havoc outside.Ruby watched as Veronica was escorted out by her aids because she wanted to sleep and rest—to recover from the shock.“Liar,” She mumbled to herself as her eyes followed her cunning sister’s figure disappear outside.“We’d like for the two Alphas to join us in this investigation. We sent a message for reinforcements from the Parliament to come here and they’d
Veronica’s POVWe blended in the chaos.“Stay close to me,” Sebastian whispered as he looked back over his shoulder and pull me behind him.The hired rogues are not to spare us. They just know someone paid them for this ambush but not really who it is; so that when things ever gets revealed, it would be hard for them to point at us. It was a clever detail that Sebastian came up with, clearly has experience with this.“Where are the guards?!” I heard Ruby’s voice among the chaos, clutching her gown. “Why didn’t we see them coming?!”Colton growled low, frustrated. With a low horn—one stolen from the old pack's own armory, the sound echoed in the territory. Flames erupted at the eastern barricade first, catching the guards unaware. Screams pierced the air, and mayhem broke loose in Eviera. “They’re using our own signals—someone had to give them that knowledge. Maybe a traitor,” Colton gritted out as he tried fighting off some of the attackers in the chambers.Sebastian and I, together
Third Person’s POVTwo sides were holding knives hidden behind their back, waiting for their opportunity to strike.Helios and Eviera meet to settle their accusations with each other. They were convening and presenting their side at Eviera’s territory.Alpha Sebastian, Luna Veronica, and their Beta, Eamon together with a few of their aides accompanied them to the gathering. The officials from the Parliament arrived earlier than them.Naturally, murmurs from the crowd of spectators filled the tense air at Eviera.“Luna Veronica really is targeting Eviera, doesn't she?”“She's going against the mother who loved her so dearly.”“Oh it's because she's married to the Alpha of Helios—that’s why she has the guts.”“Clearly Alpha Colton and Luna Ruby are failing as our leaders though.”“We are just getting caught in their personal mess.”Veronica was used to such comments. She knows how fickle the adoration and respect from her former pack members are. She has been a subject of it on lots of
Veronica’s POVNews spreads fast in the Northern continent. The whisper of scandal had grown into a storm.Controversies are a big deal especially for packs who aim to climb to the top. It opens opportunities to sneak in and ally with the stronger clans. If you pick the right side, it might just do you great favors in the future.Helios is power; thus, it is always the right side.“There are two more packs who have sent a letter stating their cooperation in allowing the investigation for the missing Lady Jadeline of Eviera around their borders,” Isolde reports to me. “They’d be informing us as soon as they find any clues.”I nodded in satisfaction as I sip my tea, looking out at the view of my garden. I’m not able to visit it a lot until recently and it has been blooming now more than ever.I placed down my cup on the table and smiled towards Analynn who took the empty cup from the table. “Is Luciana and Rowan back? Are they in the meeting chambers already?” I asked.Keldor, who's ve
Ruby’s POV“This is all your fault!” I flinched at Colton’s voice booming inside our bedroom chambers. He was pacing back and forth in anger.I squirmed where I was standing. It's been hours since Veronica and her husband, the Alpha of Helios, paid us a visit just this afternoon.Eviera had been in chaos since then. Colton, especially, couldn't contain his anger. I didn't like it when he's like this. All that wrath has to land somewhere… and I’m always at its receiving end. Just like right now.“How can you be so useless and not know anything about your mother's whereabouts, huh? You should at least know that!” He was flailing his hands while glaring at me.“But of course, you don't know anything else! Like always!” His veins were showing in his face, his canines bared now as he growled at me.I cowered in fear and his dominance. I felt so small as he continued chastising me.“It's just your mother and your stepsister’s reputation that even made you a Luna of this pack,” he gritted o
