Chapter 48

Rhett’s POV

The low hum of the ship engines was the only sound that filled the air. Salt spray stung my cheek as the wind whipped across the open deck.

We had just finished another “exchange”, one of Dominic’s routine operations. The partners we’d met had left in a separate yacht, their silhouettes vanishing into the horizon, swallowed by the gray-blue sea.

Dominic leaned against the railing, a cigar between his fingers, his broad shoulders squared in satisfaction. He looked every inch the man he wanted the world to fear. Just as ruthless as he always was.

I wasn’t in the mood to celebrate. The wound at my side throbbed beneath the bandage, a reminder of the bullet I’d taken just a few weeks ago.

“You could at least try to look alive,” Dominic drawled, turning his head slightly toward me. “We pulled off a clean run. That deserves a drink.”

I snorted softly, my gaze fixed on the rolling water. “You’re serious? I was shot, and I’m still recovering. And you want me to drink?”

  • On My Brother's Bed    A Dangerous Kind of Tender

Chapter 63 Rhett’s POVThe first thing I felt was the warmth.Soft. Real.It took a second before my foggy mind caught up with what my body already knew. Someone was lying beside me.Astrid's hair spilled over the pillow, wild and tangled like the aftermath of a storm. One arm was tucked under her cheek, her lips slightly parted, chest rising and falling in quiet rhythm. The morning light coming through the blinds painted golden lines across her bare shoulder. She looked… peaceful. Too peaceful for someone who had wrecked me so completely.I dragged a hand through my hair, my head pounding lightly. Everything from last night flashed in fragments.I should’ve felt guilty. I didn’t.Instead, I felt something far more dangerous–which was content.Leaning closer, I brushed a loose strand of hair from her face. My fingers lingered a little too long, tracing the curve of her jaw. Damn it, she was beautiful. In sleep, she looked almost innocent, and I hated that it made my chest ache. Her l

  • On My Brother's Bed    Sweat, Moans, and Mayhem

Chapter 62Astrid's POV I found myself doing exactly as he said. The floor was cold when I dropped to it. I watched as he worked his belt loose, slowly and deliberately. His pants slid down just enough to free his thick, hard length. I gasped at how big it was, imagining how much he would fill me up. “Open your pretty little mouth, Princess,” He said, in a low tone. His finger slid between my lips as I parted my mouth, still maintaining eye contact with him. Then, I took in his length, inch by inch until I couldn't take any more. His hands tightened around my hair.“Fuck,” He groaned. Hearing him curse did something to me and I moaned against him, sending vibrations up his shafts. “That's it, baby,” He said, “Take all of me,”My eyes watered as his tip hit the back of my throat. I squeezed my thighs together as my wetness soaked through my lace panties. For once, it felt right. All of...these.He began rolling his hips, not in a brutal way and I turned to just mouth and need

  • On My Brother's Bed    Lessons on My Knees

Chapter 61Astrid’s POVMy pulse hadn’t slowed since the moment I saw Rhett raise that gun.“Rhett, stop!” I screamed, the sound raw against the echoing walls.Micah didn’t flinch even when Rhett’s finger tightened on the trigger.“Go ahead,” Micah snarled, his chest rising hard. “Do it!”Rhett’s eyes flicked between us, trembling with fury.“Please,” I moved forward, my voice shaking. “If you want to kill him…”His gaze snapped to me.“…then you kill me first.”The words came out before I could think. But the silence after was deafening.Rhett froze, his jaw clenched For a moment, I saw the gun shift in his hand. Then slowly, his arm dropped. He was breathing hard, his chest heaving like he’d just fought a war inside himself. Then his arm snaked around me, pulling me into him with a force that stole the air from my lungs.“Don’t ever say that again,” he growled, voice low, rough, too close to my ear. “Don’t you ever put yourself between me and him again.”I felt his heartbeat against

  • On My Brother's Bed    Between a Bullet and a Kiss

Chapter 60Rhett’s POVThe villa was quiet at dawn—too quiet. The kind of silence that carried weight, like the calm before a storm. Smoke curled from the cigar between my fingers, twisting lazily into the golden light coming through the blinds. I’d been awake since three, staring at the table covered in maps, guns, and ledgers. My father’s voice still replayed in my head now and then.‘You’ve got a legacy to protect, Rhett. Don’t ruin it with emotions.’Emotions.He made it sound like a weakness.I took another drag, the burn settling in my throat, then let it out slowly. Across from me, Mercedes stood by, dressed in an usual fitted black suit, her expression blank.“Shipment comes through Palermo by midnight,” she said, flipping through a folder. “Valenti’s men will handle the transfer. You just need to make an appearance. Your father wants you seen.”“Of course he does,” I muttered with a scoff. “He wants everyone to believe I’m his perfect little soldier.”Mercedes glanced at me

  • On My Brother's Bed    A Bruise Called Love

Chapter 59Astrid’s POVThe room felt smaller the longer I stayed in it.The walls breathed with the echo of Rhett’s voice, and even after he’d turned his back on me, I could still feel the weight of his grip burning on my skin. He’d said I wasn’t leaving. But that didn’t stop my mind from trying, would it?I watched the rise and fall of his chest, the flicker of pain that tightened his jaw. He was lost in a war no one could see, and somehow, I was standing in the middle of it.“Rhett…” I started softly.“Don’t even say a word.” I swallowed back everything I wanted to scream. How could I, when the man standing there looked like Rhett but wasn’t the same person I’d known?I slowly rose from the bed and took a step forward. “Micah needs–”“Micah can wait,” he interrupted, his tone leaving no room for argument. “You’re not leaving, Astrid. Do you understand me?”His words weren’t loud, but they carried a kind of quiet danger that made my chest ache.I nodded because arguing with him rig

  • On My Brother's Bed    The Breaking Point

Chapter 58Rhett’s POVI didn’t even know what I was doing when I aimed the gun at Dominic. My hand moved on its own, my pulse hammering so hard it drowned out everything else. My father’s voice was a distant growl, and low.“Put it down, Rhett.”But I couldn’t.Every muscle in my arm locked, and for some reason, lowering that gun felt impossible.“Now.”My jaw ticked. I still couldn’t.Something inside me refused to obey him. Maybe it was pride, or instinct, or that strange, unrelenting pull from the girl standing behind me–her scent, her soft gasp. Dominic’s glare hardened. “You’re going to point a weapon at your own father? Really?”He took a step forward and muttered with a scoff. “Do it, then. Pull the trigger, Rhett. Show me how far your disobedience runs.”His words rang in my ears, but I barely heard them. I didn’t even remember pulling the trigger until the shot went off.The bullet slammed into the wall behind him with a deafening crack.Astrid yelped, her voice breaking th
