Chapter one.
It is going to be okay. Emily, laid down on the bed feeling reluctant about her interview which was scheduled to be held by 10:00 am. It’s her 2nd year after graduation. Life hasn't been rosy like she imagined, the plan was to go to school and get a degree, get a good job, and obviously fall in love with her charming prince. Emily was lost in deep thoughts when Rosie stepped in, her hands covered with flour she had been busy with baking. She had a big client and had to bake for the upcoming wedding of a newly wedded bride. Rosie patted Emily on her shoulder gently to bring her back from consciousness. “you are overthinking it” Rosie chipped in seeing Emily's worrisome face. “You are fit for this position not just because you are my friend but I have seen how hard you have worked” “You know how hard it has been for me for the past few weeks, I am beginning to lose it, I hope I get the job this time” Emily murmured checking the time once more. “ You don't have to give up. Emily at least not now” Rosie replied. “You have to show up as your best self, and throw away those negative thought that are of no use to you” “Come and have a taste of my delicious snacks”. Rosie said, dragging Emily from her room to the kitchen. “ How is it?”. She asked after Emily tasted just a bit of it. “ You make the best pastries in New York Rosie and I am such a huge fan and so proud of you” “ Thank you,” Rosie answered, grinning from ear to ear like she just won a lottery ticket. This is for the wedding of the year, the youngest couple in town” Rosie chipped in, and patted her back. “ And about that, when are we attending your wedding, you are not getting younger” Emily chuckled as she teased Rosie. “ I am just 26, get a grip of yourself young lady”. Rosie yelled out. “When my Mr. Right comes, I will say I do and walk down the aisle with him,” she said assuredly. “and I will gladly follow you as your maid of honour”. They both did a few demonstrations with both of them falling down while laughing hard. Rosie dragged Emily up to her feet “Absolutely, now hurry up and get yourself prepared for your interview, you can't be late, first impression matters a lot” . “I sincerely have a positive feeling about this job interview you are about to attend. This is going to be your last job search”. “ Thank you Rosie,” Emily said feeling a bit emotional and using her handkerchief to wipe the tears that had started flowing freely down her face. “ I honestly wish so, you know how easily I get discourage when things don’t go as I planned”. Emilly sighed deeply. Emily left the kitchen, and walked down to her room to get prepared for the day. She picked up her tooth brush and started to quickly brush her teeth. When she was done she looked into the full length mirror that was hung at the corner of the bathroom. Satisfied with her looks, she walked over to take a shower. After washing her body she proceeded to get dressed. She wore a red body-fitted dress that highlighted a few of her curves, putting on a low-heeled stiletto to complement the look and had a black Gucci bag on. Her gown reached her knees, not revealing too much skin on her thighs. She walked down to the mirror to check out her dress, and smiled with genuine admiration. She packed her hair into a bun, laid the baby curls that fell from the hair. She did that perfectly. Having graduated as one of the best students in her department. Emily had expected to get a job immediately. Several firms had turned her down due to various reasons making her feeling disappointed. She had managed to pull through with the support of Rosie. She gently picked up the brown envelope which contained her CV as it was laying down helplessly in the wooden table right at the middle of the room. “ We go again, wish me luck,” she said feeling nervous as she flashed back to those numerous failed interviews she had been to and remembering how disappointed she was when she got rejected. “ You are getting the job this time, Emily brace yourself up” “Okay,” Emily replied with little or no belief at all. Rosie has been her only family after losing her parents in a car accident. A tear slipped down her face, she wiped it and another dropped as she reminisced about everything they have been through together over the years. “ I wished they were here, to see what I have become or at least how well I am trying to get myself a better life” she breathed deeply. “I know, they will be so proud of you wherever they are,” Rosie said as she patted her back gently to calm her down. “Stop being a pity party, you have an interview, hurry up and get dressed or you will be late” Rosie spoke assertively. “We need money to pay for our rent, which is in three months time, this job will go a long way in helping me to assist you in paying of the bills as well” she said to Rosie who seem to be busy with the pastries she was making as she was trying to put a finish touches to the cup cakes. “I have always been a burden to you these past few weeks of staying here and I want to be able to assist” “ If only I had gotten the job at the bank I would have been able to help you more”. “Don't let those past disappointment make you lose your faith, I wish you all the good luck in the world and I will never see you staying with me as a burden” “ For goodness sake I love having you here till you got everything figured out for yourself, you are more than welcome to stay with me” “ I have seen how hard you have been trying and I can only be more than welcome to assist you the little I can anytime and any day” ‘Thank you, Rosie, Emily said as she wiped the tears from her face” “ Hurry up and have a great day Emily, and good luck on your interview once again” Rosie watched for a while as she waited for Emily to go and waving goodbye she turned to continue her activities of baking one of the best wedding cakes of the year”.Chapter One hundred and forty-four. It still feels like a dream to Ashley as she wore her wedding dress staring at herself in the rectangular mirror hung at the front of the door. Her baby bump showed lightly against the gown she was wearing. Both of them had suggested that the wedding should take place before she gave birth. What amused her the most was when she met with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Makolo. The way they had welcomed her had been the best thing she had ever experienced. “You are welcome dear…I didn't know what took Liam so long to make this decision”, his mom announced. Bastien has also been very welcoming. “Welcome to the family”, he said as he hugged her tightly. “Thank you”, They talked for a while about Iris and his kid. “They are fine”, he replied. She left the place and hurried home to meet her sister for the appointment. They arrived at the bridal shop. Chloe brought out another dress for her to try it on. “I like this”, she said admiring the dress on
Chapter One hundred and forty-three Two weeks later Ashley woke up with severe headache and pains all over her body. As she rushed to the bathroom to vomit she couldn't help but notice how pale she had become as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. She wondered what was happening to her and decided to go see the doctor. She showered, dressed up, and made her way to the hospital. She arrived and met the doctor who examined her before asking her a few questions. “When was the last time you saw your period?” she asked. Ashley blinked her eyes several times. She noticed she had been a few days late already but didn't bother about it thinking it was stress. “I am four days late already,” she replied. The doctor hesitated briefly before speaking again.“We need to run a general body test to know what exactly is going on”, she voiced out. “Okay”, Ashley responded. It dawned on her that the last time she had been intimate with Liam, they had been so engrossed that neither o
Chapter One hundred and forty-twoAshley arrived at the conference meeting she was having with Liam's company. Today was the final day. The board members began to enter gradually and in no particular order. Ashley stood up and pitched her latest development. She was received with applause as soon as she was done. She smiled all through. Her stomach fluttered with butterflies seeing Liam watch her closely. She finished and stepped down, taking her seat confidently. Liam stood up and addressed the team as soon as the meeting ended. Everyone began to leave the meeting gradually. Ashley was about to find her way out of the building when Liam stopped in front of her. “If you don't mind let me take you home”, Ashley's first response was to accept but she gathered herself and managed to speak. “No, thank you”, But Liam wasn't ready to go. “Please…let me”, he asked again. She couldn't hold it anymore as she accepted. “Fine”, she responded. She entered into his car letting silen
Chapter One hundred and forty-one. Ashley was lost in deep thought about what her sister had just told her. She was mad at herself for reacting in such a manner. What was she thinking? She couldn't disagree that she had totally lost it. For the first time she accepted that there wasn't going to be a reason for Liam to accept her back. She had allowed her emotion to take control of her and messed up everything so badly. She allowed herself to mourn the love which could have been but didn't exist. Whatever it was she cried herself to sleep most nights and wallowed in self-pity. Chloe noticed but allowed her to grieve as much as she could. Emily and Rosie also called to check up on her. She informed them she was alright although it was a lie. She tried her best to focus her attention on the project she had. When she was done, she showered and dressed in clean clothes and found her way to the company. She was glad because the contract was a big one and she needed the money to
Chapter One hundred and forty She couldn't hold it anymore as she found her way to Liam’s place to try to amend their relationship. When she got to his place. The door opened, and her heart dropped as she stood face-to-face with him again. She was shocked to see her sister standing in front of her. “Chloe!”, she exclaimed. “What the hell are you doing here?.”She was about to speak when Lucas interrupted her. “Ashely!” he exclaimed, looking shocked, and angry? “What is she doing here ?” Ashley asked. “No, Ashely. That’s not the question here. The question is, what are you doing here? What do you want?” he asked, his voice edgy. She was dumbfounded. How could he ask her that question? “I came to see you,” she answered weakly, not knowing what else to say. Chloe spoke next. “I’ll give you two some space,” She said, walking into the house. Her heart shattered into a million tiny pieces. If someone had told her that her sister would betray her she would be the last person to b
Chapter One hundred and Thirty-nine. The next day Ashley found herself in Liam’s place. She agreed with her sister's advice to not give up easily on their love. She knocked on the door holding a bouquet of flowers ready to pour her heart to him when he came out. She was speechless for a moment as she stood in front of him. “Hello, Liam”, she voiced out. “Hello”, he responded with little or no enthusiasm. “I am sorry, Liam… I really am.”“It doesn't matter anymore, don't you get it?”, Ashley tightened her fist into a fury. Why did he have to act so nonchalant? She swallowed hard not knowing how to plead with him to accept her. When a thought crossed her mind. She had no option but to find her way to Emily's house. She was sure that he was going to listen to them. She arrived there and knocked at the door. Soo-jin opened the door for her. She hugged her tightly as they exchanged pleasantries. “It's been a while…you are a big girl now”, Ashely remarked. Emily came out hear
