Clyde’s POV

I knew Martin too well.

During dinner, Athena sat beside me with her back straight and her smile controlled. Anyone else would think she was calm, but I noticed the small things. The way her fingers stayed close to her clutch. The way she checked the glass before drinking. The way her eyes moved around the table, memorizing faces, weighing threats.

Clyde’s POVHindi kami agad umuwi.I told the driver to take the longer route, not because I was avoiding anything, but because I needed time to think without the whole house watching us. Athena sat beside me, quiet, her hands folded on her lap. The blue dress still looked perfect on her, but her face had changed. The strength she wore in front of my family was slowly loosening, and underneath it was exhaustion.I knew that look.It was the face of someone who had stayed standing too long.“Pagod ka na,” sabi ko.She didn’t look at me. “Hindi.”“Liar.”That made her glance at me. “Ikaw ang nagsabi niyan sa akin?”“I lie for strategy. You lie because you don’t want to be a burden.”Her lips parted, then closed again.Tama ako.And I hated being right. The city lights passed over her face, one after another. For a moment, she looked like she belonged to another life. A quieter one. One where she didn’t need contracts, guards, or a man like me sitting beside her while enemies circled.

We found something. His hand stayed close to mine, not touching, but ready. Para bang kahit isang hakbang lang ang pagitan namin, handa siyang humarang kung may biglang lumapit.“What did you find?” tanong niya, malamig ang boses. The guard glanced at me first before answering. “A phone, sir. Hidden near the garden entrance. It was recording.”My stomach dropped.Recording? Someone had been watching.Someone had been waiting f

Anyone else would think she was calm, but I noticed the small things. The way her fingers stayed close to her clutch. The way she checked the glass before drinking. The way her eyes moved around the table, memorizing faces, weighing threats. She was learning too fast. That should have comforted me.Instead, it made me angry. She shouldn’t have needed to learn any of this.“Mrs. Harrison,” Elise said from across the table, voice sweet enough to poison tea. “I heard your family has been under financial strain. That must have been difficult.”Athena placed her glass down gently. “It was.”No excuse. No apology.Elise smiled. “And then Clyde came along.”I felt my hand tighten around my fork.Athena did not look at me. “Yes.”“How fortunate.”“Very,”

  • Playboy's Contract   CHAPTER 29

Clyde stayed beside me, exactly as promised. At kahit ayaw kong aminin, malaking tulong iyon.Martin lifted his glass. “I must admit, Mrs. Harrison, you’re more composed than expected.”I smiled. “Thank you. I’ll take that as a compliment.”“It is,” sabi niya. “Mostly.”Elise laughed softly. “Don’t mind Martin. He’s just curious. We all are.”“About what?” tanong ko.Her eyes moved to my ring. “About how a marriage can happen so quickly and still look so… convincing.”There it

Harrison gatherings were never celebrations. They were battlefields with better lighting. Athena stood near the mirror in the living room, wearing the deep blue dress she chose earlier. Hindi siya mukhang naghahamon ng away. Hindi rin siya mukhang nagmamakaawang tanggapin. She looked calm, elegant, and untouchable in a way that would irritate my cousins.Good.Let them be irritated.Cloud sat on the sofa, sulking because he wasn’t allowed to come.“But I can protect Athena,” he insisted, holding his robot like a weapon.Athena turned to him, her expression softening. “I know you can. Pero tonight, kailangan muna dito ka with Manang Rosa.”Cloud frowned. “Because of mean adults?”“Yes,” sh

Because they needed to hear it.Iyon ang sagot niya.Practical. Safe. Malinis. Pinirmahan namin iyon. Pinag-usapan namin iyon. No feelings. No expectations. No romantic obligations.
