Selene’s POV

“Luna Raven…”

The whisper froze me and I couldn't move. My hand hovered just above the doorknob and my breath caught somewhere between my lungs and throat. That voice… though I was quite convinced that it wasn’t Kieran’s as it lacked his weight, power, and his ever-present restraint. This was different as it was fragile and unsteady, but it carried something deeper and a strange familiarity I couldn’t quite place.

I leaned forward on the door cool to look through. Even though I knew I wouldn’t see anything, yet some part of me needed to be sure.

“Who’s there?” I whispered, barely trusting my voice.

There was a thick and heavy kind that pressed into the room like a fog. Just as my pulse began to slow, thinking that I had imagined it, the voice returned—shakier now, almost like a breath not meant to be heard.

“Please… let me in. This is very confidential.”

That word—confidential—sent a shiver crawling over my spine. It was a strange word to use and it is almost too formal.
