I let go of the piece of paper, the sentences I just read echoing through my mind. I'd do anything to make Alec and Annika pay for what they did to me, but getting mated again? I wasn't willing to go that far.
I watched as he scooted down to pick the piece of paper, he was writing again but I paid no attention to it. My head was buzzing and I felt weak, during the weeks that I laid in bed healing.
One of the things I promised myself was never to fall in love again, I wasn't exactly worried about that now because I couldn't imagine loving anyone ever again. I never want to be mated, what I need is revenge!
"It doesn't matter." I told him as he extended the paper toward me. "Nothing you have written there will change my mind, I don't want to be mated to you." Something flashed between his eyes but it was gone before I could grasp it.
To further explain my point, I carried on. "I'm sorry for what happened to your sister and I want revenge as much as you do. But getting shackled to you? Or anyone else isn't something I want because I no longer believe in love or soul mates." I concluded.
He stared at me for a few more seconds and then he dropped the paper on my bed. I watched him exit, letting myself sink back into the comfort of the bed.
I poured myself a glass of water, thinking about how I was going to go about my revenge. Taking an Alpha down wouldn't be easy, especially an Alpha as powerful as Alec.
I wasn't his first victim meaning he had a lot of practice and knows to be careful. I couldn't help but wonder if Annika knows about his first mate, Alpha Kian’s sister.
After drinking a glass full of water, I felt more in control of myself. Standing up, I walked toward the window to look outside. The view looked like a scene from a movie, too bad I didn't plan on staying here or else I would have chosen this to be my bedroom.
I glanced back at the note he had left on my bed and reluctantly went to read it. "We both want the same thing, revenge on people who have wronged us, I'd do anything to make sure my sister gets the justice she deserves. I don't know the length at which you would go for revenge, but I have thought about it long and hard."
"I'm also in need of a Luna, I also do not believe in soul-mates or love. We believe the same thing, want the same thing. You also need my protection because if he finds out you are still alive he might come for you. Once we both get what we want, we can reject each other and go our separate ways, no emotional attachment or risk of getting hurt."
"Think about it. You have tonight to think about it, by tomorrow I will be coming to hear your final decision." The note ended there.
I reread it again and again, and each time I did, it made more sense than the last. Things will be different this time, I get my inheritance and go back to my old life without being emotionally or mentally shackled to someone for life, it was a good deal.
Even though I was going to spend the rest of tonight thinking about it, my mind was already made up. Annika and Alec will pay dearly, in fact by the time I was done with both of them, they would rule the day, they thought it was a good idea to make a fool out of me.
I won't be going after them as the pathetic, foolish and naive girl they knew me as. I would be going after them as a fierce Luna, who wants vengeance more than anything else.
Hilda, the healer came to check on me again that night and to give me a full applied medicine. After eating dinner, I went to bed that night thinking of revenge.
I drift off a few minutes later, my body exhausted and sore from pushing it so hard during the day. Some hours into the night, I woke up from a nightmare, whimpering and crying.
The same dream again, each different from the night before but the people never changed. Even in my dream they tormented it, it was the last straw for me!
After breakfast the next morning, Alpha Kian came to my room as he had told me and I was already waiting for him. His catlike eyes were always the first thing I noticed when he walked in, accompanied by his light movements.
Tint was nowhere to be seen so I imagined she wanted to keep things as secretive as she could and I like that. The fewer people know about this, the better.
He nodded at me in greetings and I nodded back in return before saying. "I have made up my mind, nothing else matters more than my revenge and you getting justice for your sister so, my answer is yes. I will accept you as my mate for that purpose alone and once everything is said and done, we will part ways." I concluded.
He nodded, going back to the door. He pulled it open and Tint appeared a second later. He signed, responding to what I said.
"We have a deal then, I will make the announcement and we shall have a private ceremony tonight. By tomorrow, we will start the first phase of our plan by publicly coming out as a couple." Tint translated, wide eyed and a bit stunned, I hope she will be the only one who knows about this.
"Alright." I agreed.
He left after that. Emotions threatened to overcome me, and I furiously blinked them back. My days of crying are over!
The news of Alpha Kian getting mated to the mysterious woman he found in the river must have shook the whole pack because I could hear the hushed whispers among the servants from within the walls of the guest room I was staying in.
Hilda first came to examine me to make sure I was strong enough to attend my mating ceremony. She kept smiling and commenting about how she didn't see it coming and she kept swearing she knew we were attracted to each other.
I didn't bother correcting her, the more everyone believed this fabricated lie the easier our plan would be. Instead of wearing the traditional white, I told the maids I wanted a black dress.
The white ceremonial dress was forever ruined for me and also this wasn't permanent. They stared at me then gushed, impressed by my will to defile tradition, I thought it was funny even though I didn't laugh.
A trumpet sound came far away, a cue that it was time for me to join the ceremony. For almost everyone else, it's the first time they will be seeing me.
Standing at the end of the aisle was Alpha Kian, wearing a midnight dark suit. Matching my dress, I didn't know he would be wearing black and he obviously didn't know about mine too cause he raised his eyebrow at me.
I felt the urge to laugh and bite the inside of my cheek. I linked my arm with his as I arrived at his side, the whole courtyard was silent as the priest took over.
We didn't have a vow prepared and no one bats an eye, then it was time to claim each other. I closed my eyes as his fangs sunk into my neck, causing a shiver to pass through my body.
I was panting when he finally pulled away and it became my turn to claim him as well, sealing our mating bond in front of his councils and a few important members of his pack.
That was it, I thought as we turned to face our small audience. The first phase of our plan!
XAVIE I eased out of bed, stretching my tired limbs. I glanced at Kian’s empty side of the bed, knowing he wasn’t far off. Picking up the robe he had tossed carelessly last night, beside a discarded lingerie. I parted the curtains, taking in the view of the ocean. We have been on our honeymoon for the past two weeks, everyone at home has been calling, wondering when we are coming back.Kian disconnected the phone two days ago. According to him, he wants nothing to disrupt our peace. Not to mention I lost count of how many places we have visited, although the one thing I’m most excited to go home for is Hilda and Derek's mating ceremony that’s coming up. I laughed, settling down in front of the dressing mirror to brush my hair. Thinking about the new hobbies I have picked from travelling, while recalling I have a fishing contest with Derek back at home. Apparently, it was my punishment for stressing his ward. As for my parents house, I’m going to rent it out to any nice family that
XAVIE A few hours later, Kian fever had gone down and I decided to give him a tour of the house. One could imagine my surprise earlier when I walked into my bedroom to find it covered in flowers. Finding out from one of the maids that Kian brought them, had me blushing. My room looks like an orchid right now, not that I was complaining. When we arrived at the fish pond, I looked at him, wondering if he remembered. My heart skipped when I figured he wasn’t looking at the pond, his gaze was fixated on me. Nervously, I blurted out the first thing on my mind. “Aurora, how is she?” I asked, plastering a smile on my face. When the servant came to inform me about his arrival, I was in disbelief. I didn’t think he would come see me after we said our goodbyes. Filled with joy, I rushed into his arms. Thinking about it now, I could only hope I didn’t make a fool of myself, especially if he has decided to give Aurora a chance. “You didn’t take your things…” His thoughts creep into mine, for
KIAN It's been three days since Xavie left. The days are getting longer, making it seem like she left months ago. Her clothes were still untouched in her closet in their shared—bedroom. That should have given him hope, except that he knows her. He knew the reason she didn’t pack was because she felt like they never really belonged to her. He still hopes there’s a chance she might come back to claim them, to stay. He missed her laughter, her eyes, her smile… he fucking miss everything about her it makes him ache all over his body. People are still talking about Alec and Annika’s death, it’s something he doesn’t see anyone getting over anytime soon. The other victim's families are coming forward as well, he left things for Logan to handle, including settling her fake parents. Who had a nice time apparently to the extent that they decided to get married for real. Tint has been spending more time with that Asher boy. He could tell she was furious at him, she refused to say a word to h
XAVIE Home doesn’t feel like home anymore. It was empty, hollow and dusty. I ignored the feeling of emptiness that echoes through the walls of the house. Despite all that happened, I had great memories there from my earliest childhood, until everything changed. An unexpected sound startled me, causing me to twist around to inspect it. I was surprised to see an elderly lady walking toward me. “Hello…” I started, trying not to alarm her. “You must be Annika,” she responded, adding to my puzzlement. “How could you not have visited your mother? She wrote to you, and you showed up today?” “I’m sorry, but my name is Xavie. Not Annika.” However, that cleared some of my confusion whether or not Annika had been in contact with her mother. I had woken up this morning wondering how she would take the news. Not because I care, I wanted to gloat over her face as I determined what her fate would be. “I’m sorry, I haven’t been around for a while. I’m the owner of this house, where is she?” I
KIAN The following morning, the news spread like wildfire. Everyone was talking about it, the media houses were calling and writing, wanting one of them to grant them an interview. Looking at the paper should bring him some kind of joy… a glorious amount. Yet a dull ache settled over the region of his heart. He hadn’t gotten a wink of sleep since last night. As desperately as he wanted to be near Xavie, he couldn’t. It hurt too much, his chest tightened with each breath he took with the knowledge that she was leaving. He almost wished he could turn back the hands of the clock, to stop her from going to Keystone Pack that morning. The truth about Alec would have remained hidden, meaning he will get to hold on to her a little longer. Composing himself as a knock came through the door, he was half-expecting it to be Xavie… or Derek even. To his surprise, Aurora strode into his study with a smile on her face. Disappointed made him relaxed back on his chair, rubbing his hand over his
XAVIE I asked one of the dungeon guards for a dagger as I was being escorted to Annika’s cell. She jolted upright immediately she saw me approached, I stepped aside for the guard to open the cell bar. She fell to her knees immediately, grabbing my legs as she pleaded for me to have mercy on her. I have waited for this day for so long, not the day she will beg for mercy, because I never thought she was capable of any human emotions. But the day I’ll have her at my mercy. “Xavie… Alec made me do it!” She cried, probably realizing her begging hasn’t moved me a bit. “I never wanted to—he threatened me, I had no choice.” “It seemed to me like you’re the one suffering from animesa now, Annika. Because this wasn’t what you told me several hours ago. I didn’t come here to listen to you moan and whine about how you were a victim in your mate’s scheme, I came here so I could listen to what I have to say.” Drawing a sharp breath into my lungs, I didn’t think I would be this emotional. But s
XAVIE Pushing aside my nerves, I hurried toward the staircase, a little worried that I might not reach him on time. There’s not a single doubt in my mind that if he goes on the upper floor that he wouldn’t see Kian lurking around in his study, a part of me was wondering why he decided to be reckle
XAVIESomething is wrong! I couldn’t tell what exactly it was because it was more of a feeling. Pushing the negative emotion aside, I examined my painted nails in the mirror, an activity I’ve been doing for the past hour or so in a desperate attempt to cure boredom. Now that it's over, I’m plugged
XAVIEHilda would be temporarily staying at the pack house until I got better, so I was not that surprised to find out she had turned the guest room she’s occupying into a healer’s shrine. The door was ajar, and outside of it were filled with homely plants and flowers, some I recognized while other
KIAN He listened as his councils read some paperwork out to him, he was awfully bored out of his mind. While he enjoys the perks of being an Alpha, especially the fighting and killing stuff part, he hates the paperwork but sadly he can’t have one without the other. He met Derek’s eyes, who happen
