Mag-log inHis growl was deep, scary, and intimidating. It was powerful enough for the wolf to pause their actions. The authority was loud and made everyone under it tense. I knew I had no choice but to submit. However, I refused because I had spent too long fighting for my survival, and I wouldn’t betray my grit by bowing to anyone.
Little did I know that the night was far from being over. Before I could blink, we were surrounded by wolves larger than I had ever seen. Their dark figures blended with the night, making them slightly unnoticeable until walk or growled.
I realized that it was not a battle about me anymore. There were two sides attacking each other ferociously, and the rogues lost at a speed faster than light. Within minutes, their bodies were littered on the floor in a pool of cold blood.
It was a complete massacre.
In the midst of all the commotion, I tried my best to stand up by using elbows as support because I was too weak to fight and too disoriented to run. My head was banging so hard that I couldn’t think straight. In the midst of all the commotion, I saw him.
He was standing at the center, unscathed and powerful. Damian’s presence was intimidating and suffocating at the same time. The fallen bodies were lying under his tall frame with his glowing golden eyes. The aura of a true Alpha was radiating from him with full force and power.
The wolves that came with him rushed to his feet and bowed when they were done with the rogues. Their breathings were steady despite the bloody party and their blood-colored furs.
I couldn’t move. Even though I wanted to run badly, I couldn’t bring myself to stand. He took a slow step forward without breaking his fixed gaze on me. I could recognize him so well. He was my most hated creature and now, cruelly, my mate.
The effect of the bond tugging hard caught my breath in my throat. The pull was so intense that my body trembled. A cold and nauseating wave of fear swept through my system instead of the warm happiness of finding one’s mate. The hatred was unleashed alongside the mate bond.
“Definitely not him, please.” my lips trembled as tears flowed down my cheeks.
I forced myself to sit up, ignoring the terrible pain in my shoulder. “Stay back,” I snarled, my voice was hoarse but firm.
He didn’t stop. His expression was blank, but his steps were filled with possession. He stopped in front of me and crouched to extend his hand, but I met him with a loud scream.
“Don’t touch me,” I spat, scrambling backward. My heart pounded so loudly that it drowned out everything else.
He tilted his head slightly, studying me like a predator toying with its prey. “You’re injured. We can’t let that happen.” His voice was deep, smooth, and laced with command
“I can handle myself.” I tried to push to my feet, but my knees buckled.
Before I could hit the ground, his firm grip caught my arm.
A cruel reminder of how he killed my entire family washed through me. I couldn’t bear to accept that my biggest enemy was my mate. How dare the moon goddess betray me this way?
I wrenched away from him, ignoring the sharp pain that shot through me. “I don’t need your help.”
He did let me go, but his gaze never wavered. “You’re reckless.”
I let out a bitter laugh. “And you’re a monster.”
He didn’t react to the insult. Instead, he glanced at the bodies surrounding us, “They were hunting you.”
“And how was that your business? You desperately wanted to play the hero?” my voice was void of mercy and respect.
Damian studied me for a long moment in silence and then turned to one of his men. “Burn the bodies.”
I stiffened. “What? How could you be so cruel even after four years?”
His eyes snapped back to mine. “We don’t leave traces.”
A chill ran down my spine. There was no hesitation in his voice, no remorse; he was simply cold and evil.
One by one, his wolves began to drag the bodies into a pile. The scent of their blood filled the air, mingling with smoke as someone set a torch to the heap. The fire roared to life, the huge flame dancing towards Damien’s face, but he didn’t move.
He was eliminating the problem, cleaning the mess that caused him to show himself after being in the shadow for years.
I swallowed hard. “You didn’t have to kill them all. Scaring them off would have been better,”
“They were rogues,” he said simply. “They would have killed you.”
I clenched my fists. “I can take care of myself.”
His response was sarcastic. “Clearly.”
Anger flared in my chest, burning away the fear. “I don’t need you. I don’t want anything to do with you.”
A long silence stretched between us. His wolves had finished their task, waiting silently for their Alpha’s command. But Damian wasn’t looking at them. He was looking at me.
“You don’t have a choice,” he said finally.
My stomach twisted at his voice. “What?”
“You’re coming with me.”
I took a shaky step back and spat out loud. “I’d rather die!”
“You’re my mate.” His voice was calm but grounded with authority. “And you’re in danger.”
I let out a sharp laugh, though there was no humor in it. “I’ve been in danger my whole life. That doesn’t mean I belong to you. I will never belong to you!”
He didn’t argue. Instead, he took one last step forward, closing the space between us. I refused to back away this time, even as his scent wrapped around me, intoxicating and dangerous.
“You don’t trust me,” he murmured, his voice lower now.
“No. Not one bit!”
His eyes were a few inches apart from mine as his gaze roamed my face. “Good. You shouldn’t.”
Then, before I could react, he reached out, gripping my wrist, not harshly but firm enough to make it clear I wasn’t escaping.
“We are leaving now; you’ve enjoyed your vacation enough,” he commanded.
I tried to yank free, but his grip didn’t budge. “I’m not going anywhere with you.”
His golden eyes burned into mine. “You already belong to me, Aria.”
My breath was filled with fury because I wasn’t his, and I would never be his.
But as I looked at the burning bodies of my attackers and the ruthless Alpha who had just claimed me, I realized that I had truly lost control over my fate. It was what I feared the most.
*A FEW YEARS AGO*“Alpha Sherlock sent in an invitation for his birthday. We don’t have a choice.” Orion informed Damien as he marched into the meeting room.Damien was busy inspecting the new items that were brought in when Orion came from the border. He had been trying to swap out some things from the mansion for a while, to the surprise of everyone.“Is there a reason why you keep buying things? You’ve never cared about how things look.” Orion’s fingers grazed the edge of the new set of chairs that was just arranged.“My mate is coming home. I have to welcome her with the best.” He responded, making Beta Orion’s finger freezeDamien doesn’t talk about his mate and has never welcomed the idea of hosting a mate selection event. Ever since he became the Alpha, the pressure from all the cabinet members, his mother, and the people eyeing his position was so much, but he never once cared or bowed.“Did you just say ‘your mate’? You mean your Luna?” Orion’s eyes kept blinking in disbelief
|Aria|I stumbled through the corridor of the chambers after I finished cleaning up the blood; I vomited at midnight. I was afraid to sleep again, and I noticed that my skin was already losing its color at that point. My legs were weak and wobbly at this point as the effect coursed through my veins. I felt so lightheaded, and my head spun with every step I took. I had to inhale some air to get my stability before I went back in for breakfast.I saw Damien from the other side of the building as he was going to the meeting hall with Orion. I figured it was for the general meeting, but his expression was way too stern. Something must have provoked him because he mostly had a plain expression with a relaxed face that made it easier for him to be approached.“What’s wrong with him?” I only muttered to myself before going to my roomAfter breakfast, one of the maids brought me a letter from Sherlock where he told me our meeting location. Alas! I had been waiting for him to reach out ever si
|Two Days Before their Arrival||Sherlock|The minute I received her letter, I knew Damien’s biggest weakness was in my hands. She brought herself to my presence, and I couldn’t thank her enough. I didn’t need her to do much; she just had to trust me to be my hostage.“What if she doesn’t fall into the trap?” Rachel asked, after listening to my great planI chuckled. “Do you think I am giving her the choice? She has to fall into it because I will make it so.”She understood what I meant already, so she didn’t bother to argue. “Just let me know where to come in.”That was all I needed to hear before I started dishing out orders. “Make sure to prepare our pack’s delicacy and spike it with wolfsbane.”Immediately, she fished out a side note to write down all I was saying.“Make sure her sheets are drenched with silver powder. Then, her bathing water and environment should be heavily sprayed with silver.”Without stopping her jotting, she asked. “What if she smells it?”Another chuckle dr
The humiliation stung more than the physical pain. I walked into the gathering; my eyes scanned the room until they landed on Sherlock. All the other alphas rose up to pay their respect with their heads bowed but Sherlock was the last to stand and he barely gave a bow.He was smiling; we both understood the reason behind the smile. The smile lingered for a while before it slowly disappeared and turned into an expression of worry.“Oh my! Looks like the Alpha Supreme too is not immune to an illness. How can this happen overnight?” his hand flew to cover his mouth. They all looked up to have their fill of my face and murmurs erupted through the room.“We wish you a very speedy recovery, Alpha Supreme.” Their voices echoedI motioned to them to have their seats after thanking them for their concerns. “Since I am in this condition, I will just sit here.” I dragged out a chair from the table and smirked. “The host alpha can lead us on today’s meeting. He’s more than capable, after all.”I
|Damien|We stepped into the grand hall, Aria by my side and Orion by the left side. As the Alpha Supreme, I was accustomed to respect and deference. Sherlock, the host alpha, greeted us warmly with a wide smile that hid a grin.“My alpha and brother-in-law,” Sherlock stated, his voice booming across the hall. “Welcome to our humble abode. It’s been a while since you visited, and I trust your journey was uneventful?”I nodded, my eyes locked with his. “Alpha Sherlock, it’s always a pleasure to see you. My mother sent her greetings.” I turned to Aria. “Aria, this is my mother’s pack and the alpha. Oh! It’s also your pack too.”Her gaze danced between us, but her expression was calm. She must have been surprised that I talked to her after ignoring her for days. I could feel her tension throughout the journey and how uncomfortable my silence made her feel, but what was I to do?Sherlock’s eyes lingered on her as he scanned her in curiosity and wariness. After the formalities, we were led
I didn’t bother to sleep anymore since I was scared of what could happen next. My legs buckled as I stood up from the bathroom’s floor to clean up the blood I had vomited. By the time I was done, the maids were already up for the day’s work, so I just took my bath and dressed up for the journey. The chariot we took was more sophisticated than the last one. It had soft leather on the seat and a large space to conveniently fit the two of us. The sides were beaded with royal tassels, and the golden color was almost blinding.“Is he trying to show off?” I sneered as I was helped in by one of the guards.Within minutes, he climbed in beside me and didn’t even spare me a glance. The silence was louder than my thoughts. I glanced at him, but his face was fixed forward and very emotionless. We haven’t talked to each other ever since the slap incident; it increased the awkwardness, and I didn’t know what to do with myself throughout the journey. As the chariot rolled out of the mansion, my emo
