CHAPTER 9

Daniel

No this can't be.

It has just been a few days but my world feels empty without Scarlett. I was going to have a meeting with the investors but there was no one to make all the necessary arrangements.

My PA only arranged the paperwork while Scarlett handled the venue every time. Now it feels like nothing is going to turn out great.

“Sir, may I come in?" my PA asked.

"Yes, have you finished everything?” I responded.

"No, I think there's a delay with the bookings. I told them it was argent but they—”

"Get another place we've only 3 hours. You don't want anything to go bad, right?” I cut her off before she rushed out.

During times like this, I wish Scarlett were around. Everything would have been done and I just had to worry about persuading the investors.

I spun my chair around and then ran my hand through my hair wondering what to do to get Scarlett. Things have already started going south and I am not managing.

A knock sounded before my Mom walked in. Her designer purse was in her hands and her outfit matched

“Mom, thank goodness you're here," I said while she looked at me with shock.

“What happened? You don't look so good," she said.

"Scarlett is about to accept AC STUDIO'S offer,” I started while she pulled out her eyes and shook her head.

“What?! I mean, I thought you handled that, Daniel," Mom replied.

"I thought so too but they asked her to go again. This time in person, I did see the CEO,” I said.

“That can't be Daniel. You need to do something fast before we fail. Scarlett needs to get back here and make sure you're OK, alright," Mom said, but I remembered Scarlett's cold words.

“I don't think that's possible Mom. Scarlett seemed excited to take that offer. After the number of times I asked her to stay away from that studio I can't believe she was so excited,” I said.

“Damnit that little bitch! I always knew there was a monster in her.”

I could tell my mother was as pained as I. All I wanted for Scarlett was to be a stay-at-home Mom. I never wanted her to work.

I just wanted her to be close enough so that I would always have her to help me whenever I wanted work done. I got so comfortable with her doing everything for me that not having her around feels like a nightmare.

“I'll talk to you later, have you arranged for tonight?" Mom asked.

"I'm almost done just waiting for my PA to confirm the location,” I responded.

"Right now? Daniel, you'd better make sure that the meeting happens OK. I don't want anything to go wrong,” she said in a serious tone before walking out.

I could tell she was dead serious since she never played about the company. I took my phone and called my PA who happened to find us a new hotel for the meeting.

The call ended and I made my way home to take a shower before getting ready. It was just so stressful as I didn't even prepare what I was going to wear.

“Mr. Cross, would you like me to bring your food upstairs?" Mrs. Kael asked.

“I'm not hungry, just put it away," I replied.

My phone was on the bed while I struggled to put my tie on. I looked at the screen to see who it was when Rhea's name was written on it.

I was going to pick up but the call ended. I quickly placed my phone in my pocket and then made my way to the car. I started the car, and just as I was about to drive, Rhea called again.

“Babe," she said the moment I picked up the call.
