LOGIN"The magic paper does not lie, Elowen. You are pregnant with the Alpha's child." I am Elowen Whitlock, a plus-size human girl born into a world of lean, ruthless wolves. For two long years, I have been the hidden, unloved wife of Alpha Caelan Thorncroft—the terrifying leader of the Thorncroft Alpha Dominion. He never wanted a big human bride. He only mated me to obey his dying grandfather's wishes. He treats me like an outsider, keeping his gentle side reserved only for his beautiful, slender former lover, Isolde. Now, his grandfather is dead, and Caelan wants a divorce. He is ready to cast me out of the pack lands forever. But everything changes in a single night. A secret ultrasound report reveals a miracle: despite my human blood, I am carrying his wolf pup from our only night of passion. Before I can even process the shock, tragedy strikes the pack lodge. Isolde is injured, and Caelan blames me, looking at me with eyes full of deadly pack anger. Left alone to navigate the dangerous politics of the modern human/werewolf world, I must protect my unborn child from the very Alpha who swore to destroy me. Can a plus-size human girl find her worth, heal her broken heart, and show a ruthless Alpha what a true fated mate looks like?

"The magic paper shows you have a wolf baby growing inside you," Osric Fenwick says. He passes the white sheet across the heavy stone table.
"That is impossible," I say. My hands shake hard. I look down at my big belly. I am a plus-size human girl in a world of tall, lean wolves. "We only did it one single time."
"The pack magic does not lie, Elowen," Osric says. He sighs and shakes his head. "You are pregnant with the Alpha's child."
"What am I going to do now?" I ask. My voice sounds very small.
"You must tell Alpha Caelan Thorncroft," Osric says. "He is the father."
"No, he wants to divorce me," I say. "He wants me gone from the Thorncroft Alpha Dominion. If I tell him, he will think I am a bad human. He will say I am using this baby to keep his power."
"He has a right to know," Osric says.
"I cannot tell him," I say.
I grab the paper and stuff it deep inside my bag. I walk out of the Silvermoon Grand Healing Temple. My heart goes fast. I am so scared.
Outside the temple, a huge black truck waits by the stone steps. The window rolls down a little bit. Caelan sits in the driver seat. He looks very handsome and very cold. He is a great Alpha wolf, and everyone looks at him. I am used to the looks. People always wonder why a big human girl like me is next to him.
I slide into the front seat. The truck smells like pine trees and rain.
"Is the healing pact signed?" Caelan asks. He does not open his eyes. His face looks like ice.
"Yes," I say. "Osric says hello to you."
"Good," Caelan says. He does not look at the papers. "You will manage the trade with the Silvermoon Healing Council from now on."
"I will do it," I say.
"Do not make a mistake," he says. He starts the truck engine. It makes a loud roar.
I just nod my head. I stay very quiet. I always obey his orders. That is my only job in this pack.
The truck moves fast toward the Alpha Dominion District. The sun goes down. The sky turns black. We are not going back to the pack lodge. I feel confused, but I do not ask questions. I never ask him anything.
I look at my bag. The baby paper is inside. My stomach feels funny. I want to tell him, but the words stick in my throat. I look at his face from the side. He looks straight ahead with mean, sharp eyes.
"Caelan," I say.
"Speak," he says. His voice is short and loud.
My hands get very sweaty. I squeeze my bag tight. I take a deep breath.
"I am contracted to tell you," I say. "I am..."
"Stop talking," he says.
His phone makes a loud ringing sound. He grabs it fast. He looks at the screen, and his face suddenly changes. The ice melts.
"Isolde, what is wrong?" Caelan asks. His voice is so soft and gentle. He never speaks to me like that. He only loves Isolde Ashbourne.
"Caelan, I need you," Isolde says through the phone. She sounds like she is crying. "The rogue wolves are near the border. I am scared."
"Do not move," Caelan says. He looks worried. "I am coming right now to get you. Stay inside the pack house."
He slams his foot on the brake. The huge truck stops hard on the road. The tires make a loud screaming sound. Caelan turns his head and looks at me with angry eyes.
"Get out," he says.
"We are in the middle of the road," I say.
"I said get out now," he says.
"Okay," I say.
I do not fight him. He has kicked me out of his truck many times before. I open the door and step onto the dark dirt road. I close the door, and he drives away fast. Dirt flies up into my face. He leaves me alone in the dark forest.
I start walking toward the royal alpha quarter. My feet hurt. I think about how we got married. Two years ago, his grandpa Alaric Thorncroft was very sick. Alaric loved my family from the Whitlock Moonfang Pack. He forced Caelan to marry me before he died. Caelan hated it, but he obeyed his grandpa. For two years, Caelan ignored me. Now his grandpa is dead. Caelan wants a divorce. He wants to go back to Isolde.
It is very late when I reach the big pack house. The windows are dark. The whole place looks like a scary ghost house. I am a big girl, but tonight I do not want any food. My stomach hurts from sadness. I go straight to my bedroom and wash my face. I get into bed and close my eyes.
An hour passes. Then, I hear a loud noise outside. It is the sound of a truck engine turning off in the courtyard.
"Is he back?" I whisper to the empty room.
He was supposed to stay with Isolde tonight. I get out of bed and walk to the window. The door downstairs slams open. Heavy wolf footsteps come up the stairs straight toward my room.
"Elowen, what does love even mean to a human?" Caelan’s voice breaks the heavy silence in the sleek, dark transport as we wind through the lantern-lit cobblestone streets of the Alpha Dominion District. His hands grip the leather steering wheel, his jaw locked tight as he stares at the road ahead.I shift against the plush leather seat, resting my hand over my swollen, seven-month bump. My human heart beats a steady, warm rhythm against the cold, overwhelming pressure of his High Alpha aura. "When you willingly carry a weight for someone, Caelan... when you face the whole world's judgment just to stand at their side. That is love. Aunt Selene gave up her status in the Thorncroft Dominion to be with Uncle Leofric."Caelan pursed his dark lips, his golden wolf eyes flashing briefly in the rearview mirror. He does not answer. The concept of human devotion is still foreign to a pureblood wolf who only understands territorial duty and mate bonds.By the time we pull into the gates of the p
By two in the afternoon, the dining hall is prepared for the mid-day feast.Only five of us gather around the long oak table: Selene, Caelan, myself, Aldric, and Lord Leofric Ashfang.Leofric looks to be in his late fifties, his dark hair streaked with silver. Despite being a powerful figure in the Territory Treasury Guild, his demeanor is strangely soft and quiet—almost exhausted.Looking at Leofric and Selene sitting side-by-side, the physical contrast is stark. Leofric looks significantly older than his youthful Alpha wife, a detail that surely fuels the dark rumors circulating through the capital’s high society regarding how Selene left the Thorncroft pack to mate into the Ashfang line. Before the first dish can even be served, the heavy double doors of the dining hall are slammed open with a deafening crash.A middle-aged female with disheveled hair and tear-stained cheeks bursts into the room, her wolf energy erratic and dangerously unstable. "Listen to me, Leofric Ashfang!" she
"Why are we driving through Silvermoon Capital at dusk instead of flying directly into the High Alpha sector?" I ask, my hand resting heavily over my seven-month bump as I lean against the leather passenger seat.Caelan grips the steering wheel, his knuckles turning white as he maneuvers our heavy armored vehicle through the choked thoroughfares of the royal territory. "The main pack gates are monitored by Elder guards tonight. We take the low road."I stare out the tinted window at the vast, sprawling expanse of Silvermoon Capital. As a human female born without a wolf, the sheer density of pureblood pack energy in this city makes my skin prickle with static. Every territory block belongs to ancient bloodlines, their tall stone manors looming over private greenery and sacred moon-ponds. I am larger now, my body rounded with the weight of Caelan’s pup, and my pulse races with raw, nervous tension.I have never faced his high-ranking pack aunt before.Caelan turns the heavy transport d
Garrick’s wolf eyes flare with sharp, predatory irritation. "What are you and Caelan Thorncroft doing flying to Silvermoon Capital?"I keep my face completely expressionless. He isn't mortally wounded—his wolf healing factor is already closing the deep gashes Caelan gave him. This stay at the Grand Healing Temple is just a calculated ploy to manipulate my human guilt."High-level Dominion business," I answer plainly.I turn toward the oak heavy door, but his icy voice cuts across the room, carrying a dark pack threat. "You would do well to leave that High Alpha before he consumes you entirely, Elowen."I knit my brows, refusing to waste another breath arguing with him. When I return to Seren’s high-security suite, she has already devoured her entire bowl of spiced meat pasta. Fueled by her rapid wolf metabolism, she is sitting on the edge of the bed, using a small silver dagger to slice up the crisp green mangoes I brought from the house."Babe, where did you get these green mangoes?"
