Her Demon Mate

Kael's POV

I looked out of the window as my Beta, Jose drove into the New Dawn Pack house. I had been feeling strange ever since we got into their territory. We had come for the Festival of the Genesis Accord which they were hosting this year.

I am not usually one to attend these events. I prefer to stay behind my tall fence and iron gate, but Jose had convinced me to attend this year as it was going to be my turn to host next year and if I didn't at least attend one, it wouldn't be received well by the council.

The festival of the Genesis Accord was a yearly party held to celebrate the peace pact made between the ten packs of the Northern Kingdom nine years ago.

Before the treaty, there had been a lot of enmity between the packs, resulting in constant bloodshed and disputes. So the council came up with a way we could all coexist in harmony with no unnecessary deaths.

It was called the Genesis Accord because it was the beginning of everything peaceful.

“We are here.” Jose announced as he parked the car.

I have not been in New Dawn Pack in over fifteen years, the last time I was here, my father was the Alpha of my pack and I was just a teenager.

We walked into the hall and the atmosphere changed upon my arrival. All eyes turned to me, just like I expected.

After all, I was the cursed Alpha of the Northern Kingdom.

People scurried out of the way as I walked to the high table. I could see fear in their eyes and I didn't blame them. Everyone is afraid of what they do not understand.

“Alpha Kael, what a surprise seeing you here,” Alpha Garrick extended his hand for a handshake as I approached him.

I forced a smile. “I hope I am welcome.” I asked as I took his hand 

“Of course! All Alphas of the Northern Kingdom are welcome at the festival of the Genesis Accord. Please make yourself at home.” he replied with a smile of his own.

“I am surprised you could make it!” Alpha Derek of Crystal Moon said.

“Right? I was starting to think he was never going to make an appearance at one of these.” Another Alpha laughed.

After greeting the hosting Alpha and the other Alphas present already at the Festival, I stepped away from Jose and took a drink from one of the servers.

I was feeling unwell and all the eyes, boring holes in my body made it worse.

Was it Varköl my wolf? Today wasn't the blood moon and so I was supposed to have full control, but it didn't feel that way.

“Just stay put through the festival,” I begged him through our mindlink.

Although he hardly spoke to me, I knew he listened all the time.

My wolf was my curse!

Possessed by a Demon born of darkness; a demon I have no control over as soon as it surfaces; that was why people avoided me like a plague – As a matter of fact, I was one!

Stepping outside to the cold night, the wind blew against my skin. I felt my chest tighten, the hair on my neck standing.

There was a scent in the air that caught my attention; it smelled like crushed roses and earth after a rainfall.

The strange feeling intensified and I growled softly. I looked down at my hands and noticed my fingers growing into claws.

“No, no, no!” I begged. “This cannot be happening. What is going on?” I cried out in confusion.

I staggered, clutching my jaw as another growl buzzed in my throat, and then I felt Varköl scream in my head.

“Mate!”

Mate? Before I could make sense of it, I felt pain tear through me.

My knees buckled and I dropped to the ground screaming, I saw black smoke coil beneath my skin, veins bulging as the demon stirred, breaking its chains.

My body arched violently as the wolf ripped through me, seizing control. My last conscious thought before everything turned to darkness was a single, desperate word:

"Mine.”

Varköl’s POV

I forcefully shifted, motivated by the scent of our long awaited mate.

I let out a loud howl into the sky and chased after her scent. It led me down to a dungeon and I froze at the sight below.

I saw her; our mate!

They had locked her in a dungeon? One of them was about to lay with her against her wish.

My anger spiked as my veins glowed, my heart beating visibly through my cracked skin.

I could sense their fear, it fueled my rage. Pouncing on them, I grabbed the first and flung him hard to the wall. His body splashed into pieces of flesh and bones.

The men screamed as I tore them apart, and when I was done with them, I stared silently at her.

“Mate,” I growled. 

She was mine and I was going to take her
