Chapter 4: The Guy Named Zeke

KAYLEEN

The road is busy, cars passing by without stopping. The street lights are reflecting on the puddles created by the rain. I am just walking alone at the side letting the storm soak me wet. The blood that’s splattered on me are not that visible anymore. It’s already night time and no one cared about stopping.

I buried my family on the back of our house and run away with just a bag of clothes. My face is the same while ignoring Shaira trailing me. My life is completely ruined and I can’t die not getting rid of her.

The next day, I woke up at the side of the road, inside an abandoned car. I tried to familiarize the place but I don’t know what place it is anymore. The horizon is wide with peaceful surroundings since there are only few cars passing by. It’s a huge rice field and I can see the sun has already risen high.

I tried walking farther and saw a man working on his car’s flat tire. He glanced at me and stand up exposing his half naked body being touched by the sun.

“Are you lost?” he asked. I didn’t answer and continued walking with head fixed on the ground. On my peripheral view, I can see he is wearing his shirt back while walking towards me. A strong hand gripped on me making me stop.

“Are you okay?” he asked another question taking my hoodie off my head but I’m still not looking at him.

“Get off me,” I said all serious but he only gripped harder that no matter how hard I try, I can’t escape from it.

“No, you’re not from here. I can see it. How can you walk to that direction? There’s nothing there,” his calm and deep voice made me stop trying to get off.

“Can’t you just do your business and let me do mine?” I angrily shouted. When we locked our eyes together, my knees felt like a jelly. His light gray eyes are just mesmerizing. Some strands of his curly almost white hair is blocking his forehead and his other eyebrow.

“I’m sorry,” he apologized and let go of my arm distancing himself. I got a chance to look at his face even better. He is so masculine. Realizing I’ve been staring too much, I averted my eyes and walk to the opposite direction.

He drove his car slowly trying to follow me while I’m walking.

“I can help you go to where you wanna be,” he offered but I only ignored.

“You sure you just wanna walk? I’m offering free ride and I know this place well. I can treat you a meal too,” he said. I know I’m starving since I haven’t eaten anything yet so I’d take the offer. My stomach is growling too hearing about food.

When I stopped, his car also stopped and I went inside without saying a word. He doesn’t know how dangerous this stranger is to him. He must be crazy for talking to me.

“So, you’re hungry.” The car raised as he said that. “I’m Zeke by the way, Zeke White,” he introduced himself trying to glance at me if he had a chance. I’m not on a mood to talk.

“I don’t bite you know. You can also tell me your name you know.”

I’m still all silent.

“Okay, I won’t force you to talk. By the way, how can you just take a strangers offer? Aren’t you afraid I might kidnap you then slaughter you and everything?”

‘You just drove a murderer idiot.’

“Anyways don’t think about it. I’m too handsome to be a murderer.” His voice is getting annoying the more he speaks. The car stopped so I gazed at the outside to check out where he brought me. It’s a restaurant with few people inside. It’s still early though, they might’ve just opened.

I followed him inside and my stomach growled even more screaming for food.

“What do you want to eat?” he asked right away after sitting down on the table he chose for us to sit on.

“Everything.” His jaw went halfway open when I spoke and almost laughed in front of me. There’s nothing funny but he looks amused. I can’t seem to read what kind of craziness he has.

“There is no food called everything.” My brows furrowed after hearing him talk about some shit. He raised both of his arms in surrender and called the waiter to order food and I didn’t even care about what he ordered. As long as it’s food, I don’t care.

When everything is on the table, I devoured them like I haven’t eaten for a month not minding what people might say. I only used my hands for them too until I realized he just staring at me letting me eat everything. I glanced at him and ignored him once again swallowing everything I put inside my mouth.

A satisfied sigh came out from me after eating everything.

“Why did you run away?” he suddenly asked but I stayed silent not planning to spill anything to him.

“Thanks for the food.” I stand up leaving him there but he followed me.

“Hey.”

“Leave me alone,” I coldly uttered trying to continue unbothered by his curiosity about me.

This guy is really annoying that he didn’t stop following me until some meters away from the restaurant. I decided to stop and face him.

“What do you really want?” I asked him throwing him the coldest stare I could ever own.

“I’m just trying to be friend with you?”

“I don’t need a friend.”

“Then an acquaintance. I can read something from your eyes. You are bearing something heavy.” His voice and aura went serious.

“Don’t listen to him,” Shaira’s voice hushed through my ears. Now I wonder what she is up to.

“How did you know?” I asked him trying to ignore Shaira that’s getting visible to me again. She’s behind this guy, Zeke. Shaira pushed him away and I tried stopping her. He looked so confused about what’s happening now so I turn my back to run away again. Run away from people and everyone.

I can’t be with normal people or else I do something else again. I am a demon, a murderer and a human being that shouldn’t be born on the first place.

“Hey! I can help you!” He is following me.

My feet tried it’s best to run even faster and turn somewhere between building gaps. I turn to where my feet desires to go until there’s no sign of Zeke anymore.
