Morraine's POV

The tires of our car screeched against the road as the driver pulled up to the curb.

I stepped out into the crisp, cool morning air, drawing a sharp breath into my lungs. Around us, students were moving in herds, laughing and talking. The parking lot looked less like a university campus and more like an exotic car dealership.

Lamborghini...Porsche, other cars I had no bloody ideas of what their names were, just one glance at them told you everything you needed to know.

This place was built for nepo babies.

I just pray I can finally get a chance at a normal life here, I thought, clutching the strap of my bag.

"Woah, it's so....so beautiful," a voice purred from beside me.

I tilted my head, my jaw tightening as Cassy stepped up next to me. For a fleeting second, I had actually forgotten she had somehow schemed her way into this school with me.

I didn’t say a word. I ignored her completely, dragging my heavy luggage out of the trunk and heading toward the dorms.

A few minutes of navigating the grand, intimidating hallways brought me to my door.

Room 012.

"Omg, I am just two rooms down from you!" Cassy purred behind me.

I turned my head just enough to see her pointing at Room 014. At least I could be thankful for small mercies...she wasn't going to be my roommate.

I swiped my keycard, the lock clicking green and pushed the door open.

I froze instantly.

"Omg! I am so sorry!" a girl gasped, practically leaping off a guy on the bed.

She was incredibly pretty...long, dark hair, a slim figure, and a flushed face. From the awkward way they scrambled apart and the guy adjusted his pants, it didn’t take a genius to figure out what they’d been doing. The guy’s chest rose and fell in heavy, embarrassed breaths as he tried his best to not make eye contacts with me.

"It's okay," I said, my voice deadpan.

Without waiting for them to finish making themselves presentable, I rolled my suitcase to the empty corner of the room, where a bare mattress and an empty wardrobe waited for me.

I immediately began unpacking, ignoring the frantic whispers behind me until the guy finally slipped out of the room, slamming the door shut.

"Hey, I am so sorry. I didn't know I had a roommate yet," the girl said, walking over. "I am Brittany." She offered me a hand, her expression tentative but friendly.

I took her hand, giving her a small, polite smile.

"I am Morraine."

"Wow, really pretty name," she said, her eyes scanning me with curiosity. "What's your last name?"

The question caught me off guard. Who asks for a last name within two seconds of meeting someone? "Uh, Ashwood. Morraine Ashwood."

"Ashwood..." Brittany drew out the syllables, her brow furrowing as she searched her mental directory. "Well, I don't recognize that name. But it sounds so close to Ashford! Omg, don't tell me you're related to the founders?"

"No, no. Ashwood, not Ashford," I corrected quickly. "I don't know them. Honestly, I don't know anyone in England."

Brittany’s eyes widened, her hand flying to her mouth. "Omg, wait. Are you one of the scholarship students?"

"Yes, I am," I said, my voice flattening.

"Woah..." Brittany’s eyes drifted to the pile of clothes I was laying onto the bed, and then to my suitcase. "No wonder. I was wondering why you didn't have any designer luggage."

I let out a dry, silent laugh. Typical rich kid.

I finished shoving my things into the wardrobe and checked my phone. It was already nearing 10:00 AM. I had a class at noon and as a broke scholarship student, I couldn't afford to make a bad impression on day one. I needed to find the Art Faculty soon, and fast.

An hour of wandering through gothic archways and getting lost in sprawling courtyards finally brought me to the right building. I slipped into the lecture hall early, taking a seat in the very back row.

By 11:30 AM, the room was packed. Looking around, I felt entirely out of place. The students here dressed like they were walking a Prada runway, dripping in diamonds and high fashion.

I leaned back, trying to blend into the shadows, when a shadow fell over my desk.

"Hey. That's Daimon's seat," a girl in the row ahead of me whispered, her eyes wide with warning.

"Seat?" I frowned, looking around. The entire back row was practically empty. This wasn't high school, nobody’s name was carved into the wood.

Before I could even think about moving, a cold arrogant voice barked from the doorway.

"What is that thing doing in my seat?"

I looked up.

Standing at the end of the aisle was a tall, heavily built guy. He had dark, messy hair and sharp, striking features, though his arrogant scowl ruined any appeal he might have had. Flanked by two guys who looked like his personal guard dogs, he exuded the kind of untouchable authority that only comes from owning the town.

"I didn't know. I am new," I said, keeping my voice calm as I reached for my bag, wanting to avoid drama on my first day. "I am already moving."

"Oh," the guy...Daimon let out a mocking laugh, his eyes glinting with malicious amusement. "You must be the charity case. The scholarship student."

My hand froze on my bag. The word charity dripped from his mouth like venom.

"And what exactly is wrong with being a scholarship student?" I asked, my voice dropping an octave.

"Wow. It talks back," Daimon said, stepping closer. He scanned me from head to toe, his gaze lingering on my boots with blatant disgust.

It? his statement echoed again in my head.

A hot wave of anger rushed through my veins.

I turned my head slightly to the girl who had warned me. "Is he the Daimon?" I asked, loud enough for the entire row to hear.

By now, the chatter in the lecture hall had died down to a suffocating silence. Every single eye was locked on us. The girl just nodded quickly, her face had gone pale.

"She’s dead meat," someone whispered from three rows down.

I looked back up at Daimon. Then, slowly, deliberately, I let go of my bag. I sat back down in the chair, crossed my legs, and tossed my backpack onto the empty seat next to me.

I wasn't moving an inch.

"Woah," Daimon stepped right up to my desk, leaning down so his shadow completely swallowed me. His eyes darkened, a dangerous, predatory edge turning them almost black.

"You've got smelly guts, bitch."

I didn't flinch. I leaned forward, meeting his gaze head on.

"Woah," I fired back, a sweet, venomous smile spreading across my face. "And you've got smelly stupidity."

Morraine's POV "Damn, Couz. Right in front of me?" Kai said, turning to look at Brittany with an amused glint in his eyes. Wait... cousins? My brain was still trying to process that fact. Right now, the three of us, plus my menace of a stepsister were standing right inside our dorm room. The Parker guy had dismissed the entire hallway of staring girls with just one lazy sentence. The way he carried himself, hands shoved casually into his pockets, made it painfully clear he came from serious power on this campus. "I'm sorry once again," Cassy purred, taking a delicate step closer to him, her eyes shining with fake tears. "She... she just..." "Why did she hit you?" he cut in, completely unbothered by her sweet act. Cassy glanced back at me, her mouth twisting into a helpless frown. "She has episodes." "Dude, if you say that one more time, I will beat the sanity right out of you!" Brittany barked, stepping up. A low laugh escaped Parker guy. For a second, he looked gen

Morraine's Pov My eyes slowly opened, and the first thing that hit me was the blinding yellow light of the room. I tried to push myself up, but my head wouldn't stop throbbing. I finally managed to sit upright, blinking through the haze. Wait... where am I? I tilted my head around, taking in the room. A makeup table, an empty bed across from mine, my familiar clothes tossed over a chair... I was back in my dorm. I bolted off the mattress immediately. Oh my god! I tried to think back past the splitting headache, but my thoughts were a jumbled mess. The last thing I remembered was being brutally attacked in the restroom. How the hell did I end up back here in bed? I scrambled for my phone on the nightstand. The screen lit up: 7:00 AM. What? How was it already a brand new day? I dragged both hands through my hair, scratching at my scalp in pure confusion. I was sure I had been on that cold restroom floor just moments ago. Creak! The dorm door swung open and Brittany

Morraine's POV I sat in front of my mirror, staring intently at my reflection. I couldn't understand that dream from last night. A wolf? Why was a wolf chasing me? I hadn't watched any horror movies in a while. Was it triggered by... I shook my head. No, it was just a dream. Slowly, I reached up and unclasped the steel necklace from my neck. It had to be because of this. Last night was the first time I had ever worn it, and it immediately gave me nightmares. "Hey! Found it!" Brittany’s voice cut through my thoughts as she strolled into the room. "You wouldn't believe this, but the person doing this is right here in this building," she said, handing me her phone. I stared at the screen. All I could see were complicated digital coordinates that made absolutely no sense to me. "What do you mean in this building?" I asked, genuinely confused. Brittany looked down at her own screen. "Well, the signal came from an iPhone 16 Pro. The device is registered under the name Cassy Bernar

Morraine's POV My heart kept thumping loudly against my ribs. Without thinking, my thumb scrambled over the screen and quickly tapped the video call button. It rang once... twice... and then the screen went completely black. The call was cut off.I tried calling again, but it wouldn't even connect. The status immediately changed to offline. A cold sweat broke out over my skin, and I literally slid down to the floor, clutching my phone. Does heaven have a network system to connect to earth? It was a crazy, desperate thought but my head was spinning. The sound of the door creaking open cut through my panic, followed by fast footsteps. I looked up to see Brittany walking in, wearing a leather jacket and a mini skirt."Omg! Are you okay?" she asked, quickly throwing her bag on her bed and rushing over to me. Her face was pale with worry. "You look so white. Are you asthmatic? Or... wait, did Daimon do something to you already?" I heard about what happened girl....you have gone so damn vi

Morraine's POV Daimon’s face froze.Around us, the whispers erupted like a sudden wave crashing against the shore. I felt the air in my lungs turn to ice. Right... maybe I just did something completely, utterly foolish. But it was too late to back down now."Come sit with me," the girl in front of me hissed, her voice frantic as she grabbed my sleeve. "He is Daimon Ashford."The name hung in the air for a terrible second before it finally clicked.Ashford.As in Ashford University?I stared at him, my heart leaping into my throat. The veins in Daimon's neck stood out, his knuckles turning stark white as his fists clenched. His eyes... for a fraction of a second, they looked almost bloodshot, a dark, primal red blooming in his irises. Was he actually going to punch me? Right here in front of everyone?"Hey! What's going on over there?"The professor’s sharp voice sliced through the suffocating tension. The moment the rest of the class turned toward the podium, I grabbed my bag, slid o
