The moment I saw them, I felt my lungs work again.

“Mommy!” they cried in unison, and their little feet ran towards me.

I dropped to my knees.

Their arms around me felt like a drop of water on the desert ground. They clutched tight, sobs and sniffles muffled against my ripped clothes. I cuddled them up.

“I’m here,” I exhaled, barely able to get the words out. “I’m here. I’ve got you.”

Talia pulled back just enough to look up at me. Her lip wobbled. “Everything got loud. There were—there were booms. And fire.”

Kael nodded furiously. “And people yelling. And then… and then he came.”

My eyes went up to Lucien.

Kael’s little hand tugged at my sleeve. “He said we had to go.”

Talia whispered, “He kept us safe.”

Lucien’s gaze never left mine. Neither did mine from his.

Of all the people. Of all the godsdamned people in the realm… it had to be him.

“Thank you,” I said, my voice low. It nearly killed me to say it. “For getting them out.”

He gave a small nod. No smug smile. No sharp remark. Jus

  • The Heart of the Queen: Legacy of The Moonborn   °•♡Chapter 82~ If Time Could Turn

It had been three days since I left the estate.Three days since I looked Aria in the eyes and promised her I’d find a way back to her. Not just to see her, but to be worthy of her again.I hadn't slept more than a few hours since. Strategy after strategy. Reports. Maps. Intel. Nothing ever seemed like enough. Not with Selene out there. Not with Aria slipping further away from me. I sat at my desk, head bent over half a dozen scrolls before me. My back ached. My neck was stiff. My eyes burned. But I couldn't stop.I couldn’t afford to. There was too much on the line. The main source of light was the flickering candle beside me. My eyelids felt heavy, my vision hazy. I blinked hard, but the blur didn't go away. My body was giving out.Maybe just five minutes…I let my head rest on the desk. The second my head touched the table, I was gone. And she was there.I was no longer in my study. The warm sunlight filtered softly through sheer curtains. The room smelled like lilac.Laying next

It had been a week since we arrived at the estate. In that time, we’d managed to hit four rogue encampments. Small ones, but every blow mattered. Every dent in Selene’s network made her a little more desperate, a little more visible. At least, that’s what we hoped.“Two more safehouses confirmed down,” Ronan said, flipping through a map on the table between us. “No casualties on our end. Injuries, yes. But they’ll recover.”“That’s good.” I nodded, distracted. He looked at me. “You’re somewhere else.”I didn’t answer right away.Where was she?Where was Selene? For someone so power-hungry, so vengeful… her silence was loud. Too loud. Like the calm before a storm.I crossed my arms, pacing slowly. “She’s waiting.”“For what?”“For something. Or someone.”I thought of Cael. The dreams. His voice. The feeling that he was closing in.Before Ronan could respond, a guard appeared in the doorway.“There’s a messenger from the Citadel,” he announced. “For Lady Aria.”My stomach twisted. I alr

I woke up gasping.Sweat ran down my neck and back as my heart raced. For a split second, I couldn’t remember where I was. The walls, the ceiling, the bed… none of it felt real. But that name did.Cael.It rang in my head, over and over, like a bell I couldn’t stop. The uneasy feeling I'd felt as it slipped past my lip, like I’d unlocked something ancient and dangerous by saying it out loud.“Shit,” I muttered, swinging my legs out of bed. My skin prickled with cold as the covers left my body, but my chest felt hot.I didn’t just dream him. I felt him.He was close. Not in a physical way, not yet. But something inside me… Nyra, maybe… had stirred when I’d spoken his name. And now she wasn’t quiet. She was restless. The bond between us had been muted since the last fight, and I thought maybe she was retreating. Or Healing. But now?Now she was awake. And so was he.I didn’t even realize I’d said his name in the dream until it echoed back at me.I wrapped a robe around myself and slipp

  • The Heart of the Queen: Legacy of The Moonborn   °•♡Chapter 80~ Say My Name

I woke up later than I meant to. I was still somehow weary from my birthday gala.I took my time with breakfast, barely tasting it. My thoughts were all over the place. And I had this constant strange, muffled feeling. After eating, I went looking for the twins. When I stepped out into the garden, I spotted them instantly. They were busy chasing each other around a tree while Ansel stood nearby with two guards stationed discreetly by the hedges. It almost looked normal. But it wasn't. They shouldn't have to live their lives under constant supervision like this.Kael saw me first and sprinted over, cheeks flushed. “Will he still be leaving tonight?” he asked, voice pitched with a hope he didn’t bother hiding.I already knew who he was.I hesitated. “Yes.”Kael’s shoulders sagged a little. Talia came up beside him, her eyes searching mine. “But he didn’t say goodbye yet.”“He will,” I said gently. “Later.”Neither of them answered. They just turned back to the garden, a little quieter t

Dinner was warm and quiet. The kind of quiet that isn’t peaceful. Just... stretched thin. The long dinner table we sat around could’ve easily seated twenty people, but it was just the six of us. And the subtle but very heavy tension. The twins sat on either side of Lucien, gleaming. Talia wouldn’t stop asking questions.“What was your house like growing up?”“Do you remember the names of your horses?” “Did you ever break a bone?”And he answered every single one. Patient. Smiling. Like he belonged here. Like he was really their father.I kept watching.Ronan did too. But he was better at pretending not to. I saw the way his eyes flicked toward me every time I froze with my fork halfway to my mouth. Every time my knuckles went white from holding back a dozen different words. He couldn't just waltz into their lives like that, acting like the father he never was. Bonding. It made me sick. Then I said one of the many words.“When will you be leaving?”It slipped out sharper than I meant.

  • The Heart of the Queen: Legacy of The Moonborn   °•♡Chapter 78~ Unwanted Company

We left at sunrise. No goodbyes. No lingering. Just quiet footsteps and cold wind. The Citadel disappeared behind us like a bad memory.Ronan didn’t say much as the carriage pulled out. His jaw clenched, eyes on the road. The twins were curled up in the opposite seat with Ansel between them, both sleepy, both too quiet for kids their age. Trauma did that. I hated how well I knew that.“Where are we going?” I finally asked.“A place no one will find us,” he said.“You said that about the Citadel.”“I meant no one.”I didn’t ask more. I'd grown to trust him completely. He'd never given me a reason to doubt him. We were on the path for hours. The road narrowed the farther we went. Trees thickened. Civilization fell away.It felt like breathing after being strangled for weeks.Just when I started to relax, Ronan cursed under his breath.“What?”He didn’t answer. Just looked out the window again.“Ronan—”“We’re being followed.”The blood drained from my face. I turned.A black horse. Dis
