A DAY LATER

Xalia wiped her tears and exhaled heavily as she got off the phone with the last person she thought could help her.

She had called over ten people who were her business partners or friends but no one was willing to help because of what happened.

Apart from that, word already spread in the business world that Xalia has nothing. It was crazy how everyone knew so fast.

She was still the talk of the city.

According to everyone she called, she is a disgrace and she is poor so no one can help her.

Xalia would be in the streets in minutes because her credit card has been frozen and she has nothing. She couldn't afford the room she got.

Her phone beeped and it was a media notification. The news about Jack and Emily’s wedding which was tomorrow.

Everyone in the city was praising Jack for being a good man and not cheating on Emily. No one knew the truth about anything.

Xalia walked down the dark street with tears in her eyes. She had no idea where to go or what she was doing, she was just walking.

The streets were empty, the lights were dimmed and the wind was heavy. Xalia had a hoodie on to hide her face in case she came across anybody.

Out of the blue, a car pulled over next to her and she flinched at the force. She took a step back and the doors opened revealing two huge men dressed in black.

Xalia took a step back immediately and took to her heels as she saw them coming towards her.

One of them caught up with her and she struggled with him.

“No, no, no. I don't have any money, I don't have anything.” she said in fear as he grabbed her.

“Please.” she cried as the other man approached them.

“Please, I swear I don't have any money anymore.” she cried as they pulled her to the car, ignoring her pleas.

She struggled with them and was about to get free when she felt a sharp pain at the back of her head. Her vision became blurry immediately and she blacked out in their arms.

~

Xalia opened her eyes slowly as she felt a sharp pain in her head. She hissed in pain and shut her eyes back immediately.

She slowly opened them and froze when she realized she was in a dark room. She couldn't see anything at all as she kept looking around.

She tried to move but she realized her hands were tied to a chair. She groaned in pain as she tried to free herself.

Her heart raced in fear as tears welled up in her eyes.

“Hello?” she called with her voice trembling but got no response.

“I have no money anymore. Please,” she added and sniffed. She was about to scream again when a screen came on and due to the bright light, she shut her eyes for a few seconds.

She opened them back and stared at the screen as a countdown started. When it got to one, it displayed Jack and Emily’s wedding live.

Xalia furrowed her brows as she watched.

Everyone was there, every friend and business partner she has were there, celebrating with them. The worst part of it, her father was the one walking Emily down the aisle because she had no father.

Xalia felt her heart shatter as she watched.

Her father looked so proud of Emily, he had a wide smile on his face as he stared at her. He had never stared at her that way before.,

Jack was staring at Emily as if his life depended on it. He seemed so much in love with her. He had never once looked at her.

She was sure their wedding would be the talk of the city because the most important people in the country were there. They are present because of her, she invited them, she sponsored the fucking wedding.

Everyone seemed so happy and they had forgotten about her existence.

Xalia felt numb as she watched. Tears kept streaming down her face without her having any control over them.

She felt so empty and heartbroken.

“To be fair, I think you deserve it.” she heard a voice say and she snapped out of her thoughts then flinched a little.

She looked around the room and noticed someone standing in a corner and staring at her. Xalia’s heart skipped a beat.

“Wh… who are you?” she stuttered as she stared at him. She couldn't see his face, just his structure but she could barely see it too.

She got no response.

“I mean, it was a good revenge against you. Fucking your best friend’s husband, saying bad things about her to him, begging him to love you, so pathetic. You are the bad person here, not the victim, no one betrayed you, they just got to you first.” he added and Xalia kept staring to see who it was.

“Eyes on the screen, Xalia,” he ordered coldly and Xalia turned to the screen immediately.

“Question. Do you think they did this to you as revenge or has this been their plan all along? Or do you think Jack cares about you and his child?” he asked.

Xalia stared at the screen and sniffed. There is no way they would intentionally want to hurt her, they care.

“They… they care about me. It was because of what I did.” she stuttered and heard footsteps. She turned to see him walking towards her.

He got into the light and Xalia could see his face clearly. He doesn't look familiar at all.

He got to her and stared down at her.

“You haven't learned anything at all,” he muttered.

“Wh… who are you? What… what do you want from me?” she stuttered and he tilted his head a little.

“I am going to show you how a billionaire acts,” he replied and Xalia felt him hit her head with something.

She moaned in pain as her vision got blurry.

“Rest now, my sin. We have a lot to do.”

Xalia felt her heart race as she watched Charles walk away. She hesitated a little as she thought of what to do. Should she run away? Go back home? Run to Charles to help her? She was confused about what to do and at the same time, too scared to go to Zade. After waiting for about a minute, she walked down the hallway. Following Charles’ description, she stopped in front of a door. She exhaled heavily before opening the door and walking into the room. It was just like a normal room but it was empty and it had only a couple of chairs there with a table in the middle. The chairs were placed opposite each other and on the table were two files with a pen next to them. The light in the room was bright enough and she could see Zade leaning on the wall and pressing his phone. She could tell he knew she had entered the room but he paid no attention to her. “Sit,” he ordered without looking up from his phone and Xalia didn't do as he ordered. She was too scared to move so she just remain

Xalia walked into the house and headed up to her room. She had a smile on her face thinking about Jack. It's a good thing he had a change of art. She got into her room, took a seat on her bed, and giggled to herself. She was excited, she was going to get everything back and wouldn't need Zade anymore. She would be happy again and her life would be back to normal. She giggled out loud and was about to lie on her bed when she heard a knock on the door. She furrowed her brows as she wondered who it was. Ste just got into her room now. “Come in,” she said and the door opened revealing a maid. “Ma’am, Mr. Vale needs you to go to the chauffeur downstairs,” she said and Xalia furrowed her brows. “Why?” she asked.“I have no idea, ma’am. All he told me was to inform you to go to the chauffeur,” she replied and Xalia thought about what could be wrong. She shrugged it off and believed it was nothing, she was smooth with what she did and there was no way Zade would know about it. Probably

Xalia got into the car waiting at the gate. She entered the front seat and saw Jack. She locked eyes with him for a few seconds before looking away. Without saying anything, Jack turned on the ignition and drove away. He drove for a few minutes in silence then pulled over in front of a restaurant. Xalia looked out the window to see if the area wasn't crowded and it wasn't. “It's okay. I checked before bringing you here, people barely come here.” Jack said and she turned to him. She nodded a little in response. “Here, just to be on a safer side,” he said as he picked up a cap. He tried to help her put it on but Xalia pulled away a little, surprised by his actions. “Here,” he said softly and handed it to her. She took it and put it on. He was being weird, he was being soft and nice which was strange to her. Jack has never treated her this way, he has never treated her like she mattered in anything. They both got out of the car and headed into the restaurant. They got in and Xalia

“I’m not leaving,” Zade said and she raised her brows. She tried to push him but he kept his balance and stared at her.“Well, okay then,” she said and pulled away from him. She walked into the bathroom and Zade stared at her as she did. He sat on her bed and waited for her to walk out. Xalia did minutes later and Zade turned to look at her. She had a towel wrapped around her chest. She was too drunk to care about Zade’s presence.“Xalia.” Zade suddenly called as she was about to walk into the closet and she turned to him.“Hmmm,” she replied, waiting for him to speak.“Come here,” he ordered and without hesitation, she stood in front of him and stared down at him. Being so close to Zade made a million thoughts run through his mind but as usual, he was trying hard to fight them. Xalia was staring down at him, waiting for him to speak. She might be drunk but she was still a little bit conscious of everything going on. She waited for Zade to speak but he didn't so she spoke up.“Do

“Why have you been drinking?” Zade asked instead and Xalia stared at him in disbelief.“Oh, so you are trying to make it seem like I am crazy? Like I am imagining all these and I didn't just see you with her? I was drinking because that was the way I could cope with everything when you were not with me.” she yelled at him. She sniffed and wiped her tears as Zade kept staring at her.“She came to accuse me of kidnapping her and playing a dumb game with her life. Then she said she would get me arrested for it or tell everyone I kidnapped her. I told her I didn't care and she was upset. She kissed my cheek because she saw you, it was nothing.” Zade explained and Xalia wanted to ask further questions, know more details but she accepted it and just nodded in response. She was scared knowing more would hurt her and besides, he doesn't seem to have any reason to lie. “Why were you drinking?” Zade asked softly, taking a step closer to her. He cupped her cheek with one hand and used his fr

Xalia looked around as they headed in, they were in a mansion. They entered the ballroom and as usual, gained attention. Due to the stares, Xalia dug her nails deeper into his skin and he felt the pain. Instead of groaning or saying something about it, he turned to look at her. She was looking around, tense and nervous. He could tell just by staring at her. “Everyone looks scary,” she muttered and looked at Zade, she had no idea he was staring at her. Their eyes met and she got distracted for a few seconds. Zade found her statement interesting and wanted to know the reason why everyone looked scary to her.“Why?” he asked and she turned in a direction.“They all have heavy dresses on with makeups and look at that woman over there, she looks like she got hit by a makeup truck,” she said and Zade stared at the woman, it was true though. “And look at that man in a grey suit, he looks like he is about to shit himself because he is talking to someone richer than him,” she added and Za
