Chapter 5

Tala Hill

Maya looked in my direction after hearing my voice and a look of relief washed over her face when she saw me. “Tala!” she shouted. Her voice was trembling.

The man did not pay attention to me and continued what he was doing. “Let go of my sister or I swear I will snuff the air out of you,” I threatened him with all my might.

But the man still ignored me. I was about to start walking towards them when a man suddenly appeared and blocked my path. If I am not mistaken it came down from one of the trees there. “Sorry, I have no idea what you said,” the blue haired man said. “But that girl will come with us. She’ll come with us.”

That must have been the biggest mistake the blue haired man made because it made me even more angry. “She will go with you?” I looked at him with an evil look. “Don’t make me laugh!” I snapped.

The wind blowing around became even stronger. I extended my hand to the man with blue hair. And sharp blades of wind came out of her hand. It seemed surprised by what happened because it didn't move immediately. The sharp wind hit the man and he bounced off to a tree with blood all over his body.

I turned my eyes to my sister and the man was still hugging her. “Leave her alone.”

I held out my hand to the brown haired man and in an instant he let go of Maya. The man held his throat, as if gasping for air. I slowly approached him, my hand still outstretched. The man knelt down, his eyes starting to roll. “Didn’t you hear what I said earlier? I will snuff the air out of your body and you’ll die in my hands,” I whispered.

I slowly clenched my fist. The man dropped to the ground, this time, he was scratching his own throat as if that would help him breathe again. No, nothing would help him breathe. I will kill him for touching my sister. By the time I squeeze my hand, he will cease breathing. I heard Maya’s voice, telling me to stop. I always did not like this side of Maya. She's always kind towards people who wants to hurt her, us.

But why would I do that? It was only right that that was happening to the man because of what he did to Maya. I already decided what to do with the man.

But before I could fully clench my hand, someone tackled me from behind. I immediately dropped to the ground. I did not expect that. I was shocked, and when I opened my eyes, another man came. This time, the new guy had long gray hair. “The lot of you just kept on coming and coming, huh?” I said sarcastically in Italian.

“What the fuck is happening here?” the newcomer whined at the man with blue hair who is now standing without even a single wound except for his ragged clothes. “Who is this bitch?”

My ears perked up when he called me that. The wind got stronger and started to make small swirls around. “Get your hands off me,” I said emphatically before the small whirlwinds finally hit the man above me.

The man capsulated and his back hit the building. I saw him spew blood before falling to the ground.

I stood up from the ground. The wind is starting to blow and I did not notice that my foot was slowly lifting off the ground. The gray haired man stood up. He wiped the blood from the side of his lips with the back of his hand. And just like the man with the blue hair, he already recovered from the unexpected incident.

“Now you’ve done it, bitch.”

I did not know if I saw it right but suddenly, the man’s eyes turned yellow. Then its nails grew longer, slowly turning into something like . . . claws?

The man rushed towards me so fast that I almost did not see him move. The man's sharp nails were already pointed at me.

But then out of the corner of my eye I saw Maya running towards us. The guy with the blue hair tried to stop Maya but it was too far. Maya was about to insert herself between me and the gray-haired guy, but before she could do that, I grabbed her hand. I spun around to protect her and then I felt something sharp slashing through the flesh of my back.

My jaw dropped to the ground before falling into Maya’s arms. I feel numb. That was the first time I ever felt so numb because of pain.

“Tala . . . ” Maya whispered, shocked at what she witnessed.

I slowly raised my hand to touch Maya's cheek. “You are safe . . . Maya,” I whispered with a smile.

Slowly, darkness started to engulf my whole being. But before my eyes closed, I saw the arrival of a man. A man with eyes as dark as the night sky. When he saw the wound on my back, his expression turned grim.

And his eyes. His beautiful set of dark eyes, it turned evidently yellow.

“What are you?”
