VIVIENNE POV

I stared out the window, watching the world move on without me. Warriors sparred in the courtyard below, their laughter and curses floating up through the stone.

Somewhere, someone was playing music, soft, low, and just out of reach. All that life and noise was just a pane of glass away, but it felt like another universe.

My fingers found the collar at my throat, tracing the steel, the runes pressed deep into the metal, biting against my skin.

A chained animal. That’s what I was. And this room, big, lavish, and cold felt more like a gilded cage than any cell I’d ever known. At least here, Ivy was always with me. Always snarling in the back of my head, always pushing back, always keeping me company even when all I wanted was quiet.
