LOGINEarlier today, she was on the streets in search of a job, trying to save her marriage, but tonight, she was comfortably sitting in a stranger’s car, on her way to have fun. Life was indeed a mystery.
Throughout the journey home, her insides tingled with the anticipation of what was to come, and she couldn’t wait for all of it. Tonight, she would throw away the mask she had worn for too long and let herself absorb real pleasure to the apogee.
They arrived at a massive iron gate, which slid open on its own as it recognized Cassian’s car.
“Stay in there, I’ll get the door for you,” Cassian told her as he got out of the car and headed towards the door.
Her eyes followed his swift movements towards her side of the door. He seemed like a well-trained man. Too early to conclude, but he was nothing like her ex-husband, whose mother had refused to properly train.
The moment she stepped out, her insides burned with intense desire. She had no time to survey her surroundings, to take note of landmarks, should something go wrong in there. All she noticed as she followed Cassian’s lead into the mansion was a water fountain and tall ceiling-to-floor windows.
He slowed his strides as he opened the door to the living room. His eyes flickered with something unreadable.
This was their final destination. The boundary he never crossed for the women he brought to his house—the sex never went beyond the couch in his living room. He had never had a woman in his bed, and Marina would not be the first to start with.
Under the bright white glow of the chandeliers, he took in her full features for the first time since they met. She was a few inches shorter. The waist of her little black dress was cinched, accentuating her curvy silhouette. Her long dark curls framed her shoulders, and her eyes—those brown orbs—pulled him in.
“Sit, I’ll get you a drink.” He offered, but she cut him off. He turned back to look at her, arching a brow.
“Let’s get straight to business, Mr. Cassian.” She wasn’t the type to lead a man, but this time, it came so easily. She could act silly without getting shy. Perhaps it was because she knew she wouldn’t see him again after tonight. “The reason we are here.” She stood before him, boldly holding his gaze.
Cassian glimpsed the lust that shimmered in her innocent eyes. There was something more than mere need. Something darker that he couldn’t fathom.
“And please, don’t take me gently.” She must have lost her senses to demand this from a man she just met, but she went on. “You need to get your mind off worries. So, make me scream. Make me beg. Go all in the way.”
Her desperation intrigued him. He always made the decisions on how he wanted to have a woman. Marina was different. That alone piqued his interest.
“Stay here, I’ll get condoms.”
She dragged his arms, stopping him again. Her eyes, heavy with desire, burned into his—heated and calculating. As she held onto him with trembling hands, a wave of shyness spread through her, but she quickly pushed it away.
She wanted sex without protection. She couldn’t get pregnant, but STIs? She had none. An instinct she shouldn’t trust whispered to her that Cassian was clean, too. Why deny herself of raw sweetness when that was what she craved?
“I’m clean, and I guess you are too. There would be no need for protection. You can take me raw. Actually, that’s what I want.” After being starved in her marriage for months, she tried not to blame this burning desire on desperation.
“Are you sure about this?” He asked.
“Sure.” She nodded firmly, her eyes still on him, expecting a protest.
She slowly pulled her dress off her neck, revealing her petite body in a matching cotton bra and panties. Her cheeks flushed when she caught his sharp eyes assessing her. She wondered if he liked what he saw. She would have gotten a pair of sexy underwear if she had known she would be sleeping with a man tonight.
She peeled the fabric off her body, standing naked in front of him, quietly offering her body to him.
He let his eyes sweep over her slowly, taking in every detail. She was beautiful. Effortlessly. The whole of her body. She completely arrested him with irresistible force. If he had doubted this arrangement before now, that doubt was gone now. He wanted her.
Closing the distance between them, he pulled her gently into his chest, his hands settled around her, cupping her face.
“You are so beautiful,” he whispered before capturing her lips in a hard kiss.
A soft sound slipped from her as he traced her lips with his mouth. She slid her arms around his neck instinctively, pulling herself closer to him, deepening the kiss.
“Take me now,” she whispered against his mouth.
He lowered her onto the couch, stepping aside for a moment. His attention remained on her as he eased his slacks off his waist. He didn’t know why she had asked him to go hard on her tonight, but he didn’t want to. This woman right here deserved some respect, and he wanted to give that to her.
Her breath caught when she saw the erection between his legs as he pulled down his shorts. Hard. Slick. Ready for her.
Her body trembled as he approached with slow steps, slamming his lips on hers again. He climbed over her. His fingers found her center, sliding in to circle her bud with precision, stroking intentional spots that made her mouth fall and open with soft gasps.
“Please,” her moans grew louder with each movement of his fingers curling inside her. “Please.”
He kissed her again, straddling her. Their bodies fully connected, his member pressing against her heat.
“Are you ready?” His voice carried a gentle warmth that made her core throb.
“Yes.”
“This is the only condition the chairman left before his demise.” Mr. Roland said in a concluding tone. “Perhaps we would have been able to cover this secret and find an alternative if the press had not been so nosy. The news got out too fast, and there is no way to hide it anymore.”Daniel and Cassian shared a knowing glance. The older man looked at him as if it were his fault. The lawyer had been saying a lot of things since they got into his office, but Cassian barely heard anything. All he had on his mind was Marina. He had left her at home, still in that gloomy state.“They are always around me. I had no idea they were hiding in my house. I instructed my security team to deal with the unnecessary paparazzi. Guess they failed at that, too.” Cassian muttered, avoiding the men’s heavy gazes on him.“Must it be within this year?” Daniel asked, ignoring Cassian. “We all know he tried to produce an heir, but it failed. This is no one’s fault. He possibly wouldn’t have gotten multiple w
ONE WEEK LATERCassian was still reeling in disbelief. It was hard to accept that they lost the baby after all the careful measures that were put in place. He wasn’t a real son of the Vale, but he had worked so hard to get the empire to where it was today, and he had thought for once in his life, he’d have what belonged to him.But fate had other ways of playing its course, always failing him and letting him know that he might never truly get what he wanted out of life. He lost his child, lost his position, and now, the man he cared about was gradually slipping out of his hands.Resting his head against the steering wheel, he thought of the call he had just had with the lawyer. He had paid his condolences, calling for an urgent meeting immediately after. Cassian knew what the meeting would be about, but he hoped there would be other conditions that would favor him.Considering how much he was cherished by the Vale Couple, they must have prepared other conditions if he didn’t meet the
“How is our baby, Cassian?” Marina asked, her lips forming a small curve. She rubbed her hands over her belly, trying to remember how the labor had gone. There was no baby’s cry, but she delivered. She knew she did before she passed out. She glanced at Cassian, who stood before her with sad eyes. “I was wondering why she didn’t cry. Babies are meant to cry on their first day on Earth, aren’t they?”His insides pierced. Sharp, stabbing pains hit him, but he remained composed on the outside. He needed to be strong for them.“Marina,” he lowered his hand to touch her, but she flinched, shaking her head.Tears had quickly welled up in her eyes. He was certain she already knew what was happening, but was still living in denial. She was still running away from confronting the truth.“Before passing out,” her breath was coming out unevenly, scaring him. “I overheard the doctor talking about a dead baby. A woman lost her baby.” She placed her hands on her tummy again. It was still swollen, bu
“We gave her the best treatments. The best team worked with her throughout the process of this pregnancy, but it’s so unfortunate that even with the best medical attention, some pregnancies can’t continue. She delivered the baby, but it's a stillbirth."Cassian felt life had been drained out of him at the news. "A stillbirth? What happened? Where did we go wrong?” His voice was low. He was almost too weak to utter a word.“It’s not your fault, nor is it hers.” Doctor Brenda sighed, her eyes carrying that pitiful look Cassian loathed so much. “Right now, all we can do is monitor her closely to ensure there isn’t excessive bleeding or infection, and we’ll manage her pain.”Her pain? He scoffed. The last words replayed in his mind. Why did she have to go through pain when all she did was try to give life to another life? Just like, they lost their baby.A sharp pain crossed through his at the thought. He never meant for it to turn out this way. He blamed himself for letting her make him s
“Thank you, it’s been such a long time, I almost forgot how they taste.”The corners of her lips lifted into a smile as she regarded Cassian’s words.“I’m glad you love them.” She bit on some, looking back at him briefly. “I guess I’ll have to teach Clara and Marina how to make these snacks so you get to eat them more often.” Then she rolled her eyes. “Though Clara claims to be an international chef, I wonder why she can’t make these.”“That woman claims to be everything she’s not,” Cassian added dryly.Marina laughed. “I agree with you.” The pain hit again, but it was mild this time. didn’t stay for long before it dissolved. “What else would you like me to make for you?”“Nothing else, Marina. I won’t have you stressing yourself to make food for me when I have staff for that.”Knowing there was no point in arguing with him, she agreed with a shrug. “You don’t strike me as someone who likes late-night snacking.”“I don’t,” he said, wiping crumbs off his lips. “But what do I do when my
Cassian stood close to the window, taking in the view of the city from their bedroom. Marina walked in, halting in front of her closet for a moment. She picked up a dress, grumbling about how it no longer fit her.“I’m not ready to buy more dresses, Cassian.” She walked over to him, tossing the dress onto the chair near the window.“If they are needed, why not?” He turned around to look at her.“Don’t look at me like that, I know I’ve gotten so big.” Heat flooded her cheeks as she closed the distance between them. “More like a balloon.”He hadn’t noticed it before now, but she was wearing the teddy bear onesie he got her a few weeks ago. He watched her with interest, his lips curling in a light smile.“Where have you been all evening?” He asked as he took slow steps towards her. “You look so cute in that onesie.”She bobbed her head. “Now, I’m convinced you got it so you could laugh at me when I wear them.” She turned, ready to take the onesie off, but he caught her arms, stopping her
Juice boxes were arranged in a corner. Beside them were chocolate bars and sports drinks. Fruits of various kinds and glucose sweets. All in boxes, surrounding the dining room, as if he had hired someone to raid an entire store the whole time she was sleeping.“Do you plan to open a mini mart in yo
Cassian’s knuckles whitened as he gripped the microphone tightly. Tempted to punch his uncle’s handsome face. He took a step forward, but steeled himself. He wouldn’t give him the satisfaction of seeing him lose his control in front of the people. Violence is not an attribute of a Vale heir.He lif
“What did he say to you?” He clamped his hands over hers, swaying to the side.It was difficult for Marina to keep his pace. She hadn’t had a proper dance in years, but Cassian was patient enough to let her move at her pace, waiting for her to catch up before introducing the next dance step.“We ba
“Mr. Vale did a great job. You should enjoy your meal.” Clara pulled out a chair for Marina. “This is the first time he’s doing this.” She whispered into her ear before leaving them alone to eat.“Thank you, Clara,” Marina said dismissively. For a long moment, her gaze was locked on the food and th
