keep your head down. Don’t look them in the eye. Don’t make a sound.

These were the three rules that had kept me alive in the Blackwood Packhouse for the last six years.

I wiped the sweat from my forehead, my hands trembling as I balanced a heavy silver tray loaded with crystal glasses of whiskey. The Grand Hall was deafening. Tonight, our pack was hosting Alpha Caleb Vance of the Shadow Pack. He was a myth in our world—a monster in a tailored suit, a man who had slaughtered his own uncle to claim his throne at just nineteen.

"Move it, Omega," my stepsister, Chelsea, hissed as she brushed past me. She was wearing a crimson silk dress that clung to her curves, her scent of cheap vanilla flared to attract the visiting Alpha. "If you ruin tonight for me, I’ll make sure father locks you in the silver-lined cell for a week."

I swallowed the lump of fear in my throat and nodded. "Yes, Chelsea."

I stepped into the grand ballroom. The air was thick with the suffocating scents of hundreds of high-ranking wolves—perfume, cologne, and sweat. But suddenly, the heavy oak doors of the hall swung open.

A sudden, crushing silence fell over the room.

The temperature seemed to drop ten degrees. I pressed myself against the marble pillar near the back of the room, trying to blend into the shadows.

Alpha Caleb Vance had entered.

He was taller than the rumors suggested, broad-shouldered, and draped in an aura of pure, unadulterated power. His dark hair was swept back, and his sharp jawline was shadowed with stubble. He didn’t wear a suit like the other Alphas; he wore a dark leather jacket and dark jeans, looking more like a mercenary than royalty.

As he walked, the crowd parted like the Red Sea. My own Alpha, Beta, and Gamma bowed their heads in submission. A shiver ran down my spine. This man wasn't just an Alpha; he was a predator among predators.

"Alpha Caleb," my step-father, Alpha Richard, greeted him, his voice tight with forced warmth. "Welcome to Blackwood."

Caleb didn't answer immediately. He simply scanned the room with icy gray eyes. His gaze was cold, empty, and completely disinterested. "Let’s get the treaty signed, Richard. I don’t have time for your theatrics."

His voice was a deep, gravelly baritone that vibrated right through the soles of my shoes.

My heart began to hammer against my ribs. *Just stay quiet,* I told myself. *Ten more minutes, and you can slip away to your basement room.*

Alpha Richard gestured to the serving staff. "Of course. Drinks first."

Chelsea immediately stepped forward, offering her most dazzling smile as she held out a glass. Caleb didn't even look at her. He bypassed her completely, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the room.

Then, his head snapped.

His eyes locked onto the dark corner where I was standing.

My breath hitched. *No. No, please.*

Suddenly, a bizarre sensation bloomed in my chest. It felt like an electric wire had been snapped, sending a jolt of pure fire straight to my womb. My wolf, who had been dormant and silent for years due to the suppressants I took, suddenly howled in my mind.

*MATE!* she roared.

The tray in my hands began to wobble. The scent hit me a second later. It cut through the suffocating perfumes of the ballroom—a scent of crisp winter pine, ozone, and burning embers. It was intoxicating. It was dangerous.

Caleb’s eyes dilated. The icy gray vanished, replaced by a bottomless, pitch-black void. His wolf was at the surface.

"Caleb?" Alpha Richard asked, noticing the shift in the terrifying man’s posture.

Caleb didn't hear him. He took a step toward me. Then another. His movements were slow, predatory, and entirely focused on me.

Panic seized me. I was an Omega. I was a fugitive in my own pack. If he claimed me, he would discover what I was. He would discover my bloodline, and Alpha Richard would kill me before I ever left this territory.

I took a step back, my heel catching on the edge of the heavy velvet curtains.

*Clatter!*

The silver tray slipped from my fingers. The crystal glasses shattered against the marble floor, splashing amber liquid across the pristine white stone.

The sound was like a gunshot in the silent room.

"You clumsy bitch!" Chelsea shrieked, breaking the spell. She lunged forward, raising her hand to slap me across the face. "How dare you—"

Before her hand could make contact, a roar echoed through the hall. It was a sound so dark, so violently powerful, that several Omegas in the room dropped to their knees, whimpering.

A hand shot out, catching Chelsea’s wrist mid-air.

It was Caleb.

He didn't look at Chelsea. His grip on her wrist was so tight I heard the faint *pop* of her bones shifting. She let out a cry of agony.

Caleb’s eyes were fixed entirely on me. His chest rose and fall in heavy, ragged pants, as if he were trying to inhale every single molecule of my scent.

"Touch her," Caleb growled, his voice laced with an Alpha command that forced everyone in the room to bow their heads, "and I will tear your packhouse down with you inside it."

He threw Chelsea’s hand away like she was trash and took the final step toward me.

I backed up until my spine hit the cold marble pillar. I was trapped.

He loomed over me, his massive frame blocking out the light of the chandeliers. Slowly, he reached out, his large, calloused hand cupping my jaw. The moment his skin touched mine, sparks of golden electricity exploded across my flesh. I gasped, my eyes flying open.

Caleb’s thumb brushed over my lower lip. A dark, possessive smirk played on his lips, though his eyes remained wild.

"I found you," he whispered.

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 42: The Silence After

The valley fell quiet. Not the silence of peace, but the silence of exhaustion—the heavy, ringing quiet that follows violence when the last blow has been struck and no one has the strength to cheer. Bodies lay scattered across the snow, some shifting back to human form as the crimson light faded from their eyes. Others didn't move at all.I knelt beside Richard, my hand still wrapped around his. The mark on my palm had dimmed to a faint silver thread, barely visible against my skin. Whatever power had moved through me in that final moment was gone now, spent like a wave breaking against stone.Richard stared at the sky. His chest rose and fell in shallow, uneven breaths. The crimson veins had receded completely, leaving only the pale, bruised skin of a man who had spent six years feeding a monster inside himself."Chelsea," he whispered. She crawled forward, snow clinging to her torn clothes. Her face was wet, though I couldn't tell if it was from tears or melting snow. She hovered ov

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 41: The Name Beneath the Skin

The valley filled with the sound of breathing. Not breath — breathing, the whole forest seeming to inhale at once, as if the snow itself were holding a lungful of cold air and refusing to release it.Kira dropped to a crouch beside a snow-laden pine, blade out, eyes calculating. Counting. Failing to count."How many?" Caleb whispered."Sixty. Maybe seventy. Most are Crimson-marked wolves, the kind recruited from the dregs of the northern territories." She squinted through the snowfall. "But the ones at the back aren't wolves at all. They move wrong."I looked where she pointed. The shapes at the rear stood upright, jointed in places that didn't bend, swaying like puppets on strings. The eyeless things from the Deadlands — the ones that had attacked us in the dark. Only these weren't rotting. They were intact, preserved by the same crimson light bleeding through Richard's transformed skin."He's breeding them," I said, the words coming out numb. "The eyeless ones and the wolves.""Hybr

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 40: The Honest Dark

Dawn came gray and quiet, the snow having stopped sometime in the deepest hours of the night. I woke with my head against Caleb's shoulder, the journal still open on my lap. I didn't remember falling asleep. I didn't remember him pulling me closer. But his arm was around my waist, his chin resting on the crown of my head, and the bond hummed with a warmth that felt less like electricity and more like sunlight through glass.I stayed still for a long moment, memorizing the weight of it.Then I carefully eased away, tucked the journal into my satchel, and stepped outside. The world was white. Snow blanketed the river, the trees, the cabin roof, erasing every footprint we had left behind. The air was sharp enough to sting my lungs. I breathed it in anyway, letting the cold scrub the last of the vault's dust from my throat.Kira was already up, crouched near the tree line, examining something in the snow. She looked up when the door creaked."Tracks," she said. "Wolf. Large. Alone.""Rich

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 39: What the Blood Knows

The fire burned low. Snow gathered on the windowsill in soft, silent drifts.I had read my mother's journal three times through. Each pass revealed something new—a marginal note, a sketch of a symbol, a half-erased word beneath a smudge of ink. But it was the final entry that held me, written in handwriting so unsteady it looked like the letters had been carved instead of penned.*They are coming. Richard has found the archive. I have three hours, perhaps less. Aria sleeps in the next room and does not know what tomorrow brings.**If I could give her one thing, it would not be power. It would be the ability to feel her own anger without believing it makes her a monster.**The Gate does not feed on rage. It feeds on rage that is disowned. On the parts of us we bury and refuse to name. Richard is drowning in what he will not admit. That is what makes him useful to the thing behind the wound.**Silence is not the absence of feeling, my love. It is the honesty that comes after.*I closed

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 38: The River's Edge

We ran until the burning packhouse was no more than a smear of orange light against the dark treeline. My lungs burned. The journal pressed against my ribs, a solid, impossible weight that had somehow survived the collapse, the flood, and the madness of Richard's final laugh.Kira guided us along the river's edge, where the ground was soft enough to muffle our footprints and the overhanging willows provided a canopy of shadow. She moved with the efficiency of a soldier who had survived countless extractions, but I could see the tension in her shoulders as she listened for pursuit.Chelsea stumbled. I caught her before her knees hit the mud, hooking an arm around her waist and hauling her upright. She was shaking, her breath coming in short, sharp gasps that bordered on hyperventilation."Keep moving," I said. "Just a little farther.""He changed," Chelsea rasped. "The vines—they didn't hold him. They fed him. You saw it. His eyes—""I saw it." I tightened my grip. "And we're still ali

  • UNBROKEN : THE ROGUE LUNA    Chapter 37: The Blood Lock

The hum vibrated in my teeth, low and predatory. The black box on the pedestal was not merely sitting there; it was breathing. Each pulse of sound matched the crimson rim of the moon waiting above us, a mechanical heartbeat synced to the sky.Richard's voice seeped through the stone door, smooth as oil. "You cannot stay in there forever, Aria. The air vents are silver-lined. They will seal within the hour. Come out, and I will let the girl live."Chelsea pressed her back against the shelves, her bloodied hand clamped tight. "He's lying," she whispered. "He'll kill us both.""I know," I said. My eyes were fixed on the blue ribboned journal floating inches above the shelf. It drifted toward me, pages fluttering like panicked birds. "But he's right about the air."Kira moved to the door, pressing her ear against the cold iron. "Two guards outside. Richard is gone. For now.""He hasn't gone far." I reached out, my fingers brushing the leather cover of the journal. It didn't burn. It felt
