Chapter 27: Unwelcomed Guest

last update Last Updated: 2025-08-12 22:43:08

Deborah’s POV

"Hey, what's up?" The voice called, just before the knock sounded on Liam's door and Caleb walked in comfortably in a way that was clear that this wasn't his first time in Liam's room. His voice carried that easy confidence I'd grown used to hearing in the hallways, bright and cheerful like he didn't have a care in the world. The knock had been brief, more of a courtesy than a real request for permission to enter.

I froze in the bathroom, my hand still gripping the door handle as I heard the familiar sound of Caleb's footsteps on the carpet. My heart jumped into my throat, and I pressed myself closer to the door, grateful that I'd already changed back into my wrinkled clothes from yesterday. The fabric felt stiff and uncomfortable against my skin, a stark contrast to the softness of Liam's jersey that I'd reluctantly given up.

"What's up, dude?" Liam greeted as he picked up the blanket that had remained on the floor since the night before and folded it carefully. Throug

Deborah’s POV I darted my eyes from Liam and looked back at Charlotte, my heart still racing from that intense eye contact. The fluorescent lights above made everything seem too bright, too exposed, and I was grateful she hadn't noticed that brief eye contact between Liam and I. My palms felt sweaty against the strap of my backpack, and I could still feel the phantom weight of his gaze on my skin.I took a deep breath, the air tasting faintly of floor cleaner and the lingering scent of someone's perfume, as I noted that tomorrow evening was the dance and my poor fashion sense would be permanently taken care of and it would bring me closer to my goal of having Caleb see me as a woman and farther from the player that is Liam. The thought should have been comforting, but it felt hollow in my chest, like I was trying to convince myself of something I wasn't sure I believed anymore."You know what our other classmates call him?" Charlotte asked, making me blink as her voice cut through my

Deborah’s POV "Debby!" Charlotte screamed excitedly just after we finished our computing structure exam. The sound of her voice echoed off the classroom walls, bright and cheerful above the murmur of other students that were already filing out of the classroom. I adjusted my glasses with a smile playing on my lips as I watched her run over to me, her backpack bouncing against her hip with each hurried step. The familiar weight of my glasses settling back into place felt comforting after the two-hour exam. I knew she wasn't running over to talk about the exam we just finished and aced—by the way.Students moved around us in tired clusters, some looking relieved, others worried about their performance. The fluorescent lights overhead cast everything in that harsh institutional glow that made everyone look slightly pale."Oh my god! You punched Olivia in the face," She whispered as soon as she got closer to me, her breath warm against my ear as she leaned in conspiratorially. Her eyes

Deborah's POV The unexpected punch from Liam to Caleb made me gasp as my eyes widened. The sound escaped my throat like air from a popped balloon, sharp and involuntary. My heart jumped into my throat, beating so hard I could feel the pulse in my neck. The bundle of clothes slipped from my suddenly numb fingers, falling to the carpet with a soft thud that seemed impossibly loud in the charged silence.Caleb stood up with both his fists clenched and ready for an all out fight between he and Liam. The chair he'd been sitting in rolled backward from the force of his movement, hitting the wall with a dull thunk. Blood was still streaming from his nose, creating dark red drops on his shirt and the carpet below. His face was flushed with anger and pain, his perfect features twisted into something I'd never seen before. The golden boy image was completely shattered, replaced by someone who looked almost feral.Liam was still standing in the same spot, his chest rising and falling rapidly li

Deborah’s POV "Caleb, hey," I said somewhat enthusiastically, though the way I sounded was the direct opposite of how I felt. My voice came out higher than usual, with a false brightness that even I could hear. The words felt sticky in my throat, like I was forcing them through honey. Caleb's eyes widened a bit as he turned to look at me, his perfect features shifting from casual conversation mode to surprise in the span of a heartbeat. The morning light streaming through the window caught the gold highlights in his hair, making him look like some kind of golden boy from a magazine. Even now, after hearing what he'd said about me, my stupid heart still skipped a beat at the sight of him. His eyes were that same warm brown I'd been dreaming about for years, framed by lashes that any girl would kill for.In that same cocky manner with his easy smile, Caleb acknowledged me with a slight wave of his palm. The gesture was so casual, so dismissive, like I was a neighbor he barely knew inst

  • Unwanted Nerd: Chased By The B-Ball Stars   Chapter 26: Boundaries

Deborah’s POV "Hey, you know Caleb is still what I want," I said again, looking right at Liam. My voice sounded steadier than I felt, though I could hear a slight tremor at the end that I hoped he wouldn't notice. On the outside, I tried to look calm but my insides were twisted like a pretzel in an oven. My stomach churned with a mixture of embarrassment and confusion, and I could feel my pulse hammering against my throat. 'Liam had wanted to kiss me for real,' the thought echoed in my mind, bouncing around like a ping-pong ball I couldn't catch. The memory of his warm breath against my face, the way his eyes had looked just before he closed them, made my cheeks burn all over again. Last night, I was carried away by his shirtless body, basically because I was thankful to him. But today, I had my head back on straight at the goal and that goal was Caleb. The morning light streaming through the window seemed brighter now, almost harsh against my eyes as I tried to focus on anything ex
