Chapter Two (Part One)

One Year Later...

Jordyn stood her ground against her new-ish beta, Will. Sweat was dripping down her chest and stomach as she slid past him and took him down by his legs, pinning him down quickly in an almost uneventful fight.

She knew her pack still had doubts about her being the alpha and she took every opportunity that she could to show them that she was the strongest of them all. A group of them tried to challenge her at one point but none of them succeeded. She easily lost a dozen pack members when none of them could take her down, they just left, not knowing how to handle a female that was stronger than them.

She turned to the group of young shifters that were being trained, all of them awestruck at how quickly she took Will down, she gave them a small smile, knowing none of them were even able to lay a solid hit on Will. The six of them nodded at her as she walked to the sidelines to see what Aaron and Ethan needed.

“Alpha, there have been rogues spotted by the edge of our borders, but they haven’t breached our territory yet.” Ethan started. He had become the lead for border patrol since the last Zeta left with his tail between his legs when he lost the challenge against Jordyn.

“But they don’t smell like rogues.” Aaron stated bluntly.

“Then how do we know that they are rogues?” Jordyn asked as she crossed her arms over her chest, tapping her foot on the ground impatiently.

“It sounds like we don’t.” Will said as he came over, wiping the sweat off of his forehead with a towel. Will had come from the neighboring pack, mainly to deliver a congratulation from the blue river pack to Jordyn, but once he found that Myra was his mate he stayed, and easily took the place as beta with his combat skills and strength, he almost made the competition look easy, but Jordyn knew better. “I’ll join the border patrol tonight, Myra’s been wanting a girl’s night anyway.” Will added.

She smiled at Will. “Thank you.”

“Don’t, she’s going to pin you into shopping for a dress for your alpha ceremony slash birthday party, she, for some reason, believes that you will find another mate.” Will stated.

As he said it, Jordyn realized just how much her rejection still bothered her. The pain felt like it was just yesterday as she felt her heart being crushed at the reminder, but then it finally hit her. Myra had a thing for seeing the future and she knew then that it wasn’t just Myra being hopeful, but one of her visions, she tried to hide her smile because she knew that Myra hadn’t told Will yet, and very, very few members of the pack knew that she was a seer and healer.

Myra had gotten both of her extra ‘gifts’ from her mother, who died alongside Jordyn’s parents in the rogue attack. Myra’s father died just under three years after from unknown causes, even though both Myra and Jordyn knew it was from a broken heart. Myra was just months away from her eighteenth birthday when her father died so she was left to live on her own. Myra had shared her secret with Jordyn when Jordyn was just six years old, and she kept it from everyone.

Jordyn tried hard not to get her hopes up, she knew it would be near impossible to find a male that was willing to stand beside her as the alpha female of the eclipse pack. The eclipse pack was one of the biggest, most well known, and one of the toughest to boot. She knew also that Myra was under a lot of pressure, considering that their old healer, Marilyn Wood, was stepping down as Theta and Myra was taking her position. Jordyn tried and actually succeeded at not letting the paralyzing pain of the rejection run through her as she planned for another. Would she ever find a mate?

“Alpha, what would you like me to do?” Aaron, broke her from her thoughts. Being the kappa of the pack, he was the lead hunter and tracker, he knew what she wanted him to do, but also knew that she needed a distraction.

“Just take a few of your best hunters out on patrol with Will tonight and see what you can sniff out.” Jordyn answered.

When she got a few giggles she smiled and bid farewell as she started walking back to her lonely mansion, almost a ghost of a home. Myra and Jillian opened the door, bombarding her before she could even get inside the house. “Jordyn, we are going to go pick out your dress for your ceremony. You’ve been cooped up doing nothing but training for the last year.” Myra announced excitedly.

“I hate shopping, but I agree with her.” Jillian added.

“Can’t it wait a bit? I’m starving and I need a shower.” Jordyn rolled her eyes at their enthusiasm.

“Shower quickly, then we will take you out to eat on the way.” Myra returned.

“Yes ma’am.” Jordyn did a salute and walked up to her room, showering quickly.

She knew she could have just used her alpha tone and they would have dropped it, but she hated using that voice when she didn’t have to, and especially to her friends. She knew she needed a change of pace to help pull her out of the foul mood she had been in.
