Sophie's POV

As Kate told me we needed to report my father to the police, I felt a big lump form in my throat. I couldn't stand the thought of it.

Dad was going to get arrested. I couldn't let that happen; he was my only family. I was going to be stranded and alone. I bit my lower lip and held Kate tighter.

"No, Kate, please," I sobbed. "I have no one but my father. I can't do that to him. He's all I have."

Kate shook her head stubbornly, not willing to let this go. I could see the anger and pity in her eyes; it made me happy to see someone so eager and ready to fight for me.
