Sophie's POV

As Kate told me we needed to report my father to the police, I felt a big lump form in my throat. I couldn't stand the thought of it.

Dad was going to get arrested. I couldn't let that happen; he was my only family. I was going to be stranded and alone. I bit my lower lip and held Kate tighter.

"No, Kate, please," I sobbed. "I have no one but my father. I can't do that to him. He's all I have."

Kate shook her head stubbornly, not willing to let this go. I could see the anger and pity in her eyes; it made me happy to see someone so eager and ready to fight for me. I felt a tear drop down my face and bent my head, letting them fall. "Sophie, your father deserves to go to jail. He's hurt you, and who knows how many others he hurts?
