President James walked out of the conference room with his Executive Secretary, Todd Frost, trailing behind.

President James glanced at his watch, and he realized time was slipping away. He turned on his heel and headed straight for the parking lot, determined not to let his nominal wife slip through his fingers again.

When President James arrived at the Cartwright Private Hospital, he went straight to his wife’s office and knocked on the door, then entered.

He found his wife slumped on the sofa

Brooklyn stepped through the heavy wooden doors and walked across the polished marble, and approached Mr James Senior with a faint smile on her stunning face. Mr James Senior’s stern face immediately melted into a proud smile.Despite the exhausting hours she had just spent performing a grueling bypass surgery, her posture was flawless, and her gaze was steady as she met the old man's eyes beneath the massive crystal chandelier.Brooklyn maintained her flawless, polite composure, hiding the seething anger beneath a mask of serenity, and she said, “Good evening, Grandpa. How are you doing?”Mr James Senior stepped forward, then he took both of her hands, and he replied, beaming, “Welcome to the James family, my granddaughter-in-law. So, you actually came. I expected you to fight Judge Carter’s order.”A faint smile appeared on Brooklyn’s stunning face, and she said, “Grandpa, I respect the law, and I respect the James family's tradition. If the court believes twelve months of counselli

Dr Langa's expression softened, his strict professionalism melting away into that of a protective father figure, and he said, “I know that moving into that man's mansion is going to test every ounce of your emotional endurance.Look at it clinically, Brooklyn. Since you don't love him anymore, he is just a patient you are monitoring. Think of it as a long-term observation. Why don't you move to his mansion and wait for the divorce? You said it yourself that Mr James is waiting for his heiress to turn twenty-one. You cannot let him ruin the bright future you have built here, Brooklyn. Why don’t you take an hour to clear your head, Brooklyn? Afterwards, please re-examine these notes, and let's get ready for the afternoon bypass surgery. Show me the genius I know you are.”As a revered Cardiologist, Brooklyn possessed exceptionally steady hands that were unmatched in the operating room. Her reputation for absolute precision under pressure made her the pride of the department and a trusted

Lawyer Emerson looked at Brooklyn, his eyes full of concern, and said, “My heart aches for you, Brooklyn. I wish I could give you another option, but an appeal is completely off the table. The legal system moves at a snail's pace. By the time a higher court even schedules an appeal hearing, the twelve months of mandatory counselling will already be over.Preston’s legal team would use the appeal process to drag this out for two or three years instead of one. Fighting this order directly will only keep you shackled to his name for much longer, Brooklyn.”Brooklyn realized that the most powerful move she could make was to stop fighting and start waiting. If she didn't love him, he couldn't hurt her. He was no longer a husband, just a roommate she was legally contracted to endure. She looked at her lawyer, a sudden, sharp clarity cutting through the exhaustion in her eyes, and she replied, “I will move to his mansion over the weekend, Sean.Honestly, I am praying for his first love to get

Hiram smiled and replied, “Leave everything to me, brother. I will make it very clear to my sister that if she even thinks about going back to that divorced lover of hers, I will cut off her finances entirely.Let’s see how long her stubbornness takes her when she is penniless.” Patrice thanked his brother, then they hung up.By threatening Vivica’s lifestyle, Hiram was hitting his sister where it hurt the most. He knew that without the Cartwright family’s wealth, she couldn't maintain the elite image she was so desperate to protect.Hiram leaned back in the plush chair, and he said, his voice low but sharp with a triumph he couldn't quite mask, “I have good news, Jason. Miss Brooklyn has served Preston with divorce papers.”Jason froze, his fork halfway to his mouth, and he replied, a smirk tugging at his lips, “That’s my girl. Who is representing her, Hiram?"Hiram took a slow sip of his drink, and he said, “My brother’s Law Firm is handling the case, Jason.”Jason settled into his c

Mr James Senior’s jaw tightened, and he said, his voice dropping into a low, urgent rasp, “I need your help, Gideon. My grandson’s wife, Brooklyn Rogers, has just filed a divorce summons against him. This case is likely sitting on a desk in your jurisdiction right now. I need you to make it go away. Please dismiss the application immediately.”He wasn't asking for a suggestion; he was calling in a debt, making it clear that the survival of the James family reputation was now Judge Carter's responsibility as much as his own. There was a brief, heavy silence on the other end of the line as Judge Carter’s smile audibly vanished, and he replied, "Walter, you are asking for a lot. Is this the nominal marriage I heard whispers about?”Mr James Senior looked at his grandson coldly and hissed, “It doesn't matter what it is, Gideon. What matters is that the James family divorce is not happening. Do whatever you have to do to ensure that file never sees a courtroom.”Judge Carter shook his head

  • Wasted Tears   Chapter 33 Strategic Move

President James shifted uncomfortably, refusing to meet his friend’s eyes as he muttered, “I didn’t tell you about my marriage to Brooklyn because she is nothing but Vivica’s substitute. It was supposed to be a strategic move. I needed a wife in name only to lock down the company shares, and Brooklyn seemed like the ideal choice. At least, that is what I believed at the time.I chose her because she is an orphan. She has no one to protect her, and no one to ask questions. I thought I could discard her easily once Vivica turned twenty-one. I never imagined an orphan with no backing would have the audacity to strike first.”Lawyer Bolt stared at him, horrified by the sheer coldness of the calculation, and said, “If the judge finds out you used an orphan as a human shield for your inheritance, he won't just grant a divorce; he will ruin you for malice and exploitation.Preston, you don't need a better lawyer right now, but you need to be a better husband. It is clear that your wife is hur
