Xena’s POVThe ride to the hospital was awkwardly quiet. The men didn’t say a word to me, and honestly, I didn’t want to talk either. My thoughts were everywhere—my heart still pounding from the whole Jared thing, part of me felt sorry for him and the other part felt curious. I wanted to know more about him. From the few hours I spent with him, I knew he was a good man who genuinely cares for people unlike Kael. Urgh, that name was more than annoying and now I was starting to feel this sharp pain in my lower back again. Why is pregnancy so hard?We arrived at the hospital and the guards followed me inside but unlucky, they kept their distance, keeping a low profile. One of them even dressed as a nurse and was attending to patients in the lobby— I honestly have no idea how he managed to pull that off. I sat down in the waiting area while one of them called Kael’s personal doctor. I looked around, trying to distract myself from the tightness in my chest. Pregnancy was no joke. Acros

Xena’s POV“Kael?” I whispered, my whole body going cold.He walked closer to me, his arms folded, jaw locked tight like stone, his eyes burning with rage. I froze on the spot unsure of what to do next. “How did Kael find me? Was he spying on me? Was this a coincidence?” All these questions kept playing in my mind but it was obvious I wasn't going to get an answer for any of them. If anyone would be answering questions it would be me. “What the hell are you doing here?” he asked me, his voice cold enough to sting. Before I could answer, he stepped forward, grabbed my arm, and started dragging me out of the house like I was some thief he caught red-handed.“Let me go!” I shouted, trying to pull free, but his grip was like iron. Jared tried to say something, but Kael cut him off with one look. Kael turned to him with a glare. Jared clenches his fists but stays put. He looked pissed like hell. Kael yanked me toward his car that was just parked near the house, he opened the door, and

Xena’s POVThe past hours have been hell, I couldn't concentrate on a damn thing no matter what I tried. My mind kept going back to Viktor’s words, Kael’s madness in the backyard. I was starting to feel sympathy for the devil. What am I doing?” I asked myself several times but no answer came to me. I was seriously confused. I didn't want to feel this way but here I was feeling pity on Kael. But if Kael was impotent, what about the child they said he killed? Wasn't that his child?“Fuck,” I cussed slamming my hand on my forehead. The more I keep asking myself questions, the more I end up in a loop hole. I needed to breathe. And there is one place in the world where I could go and do that— a bookstore. “I want to go out,” I told one of the guards who was passing by. He came at the right time. He blinked like I’d just told him I wanted to climb Mount Olympus.“Where?” he asked.“The bookstore.”“I don't know,” he muttered, checking his wrist watch. I raised a brow, folding my hand

Xena’s POVI couldn't do it, I just couldn't go through with it. This wasn’t right. I can't just leave like that and besides, Jared might be sweet and all but he doesn't really have the means to protect me and my baby and most importantly, I don't know him too well. I pulled my hand away and shook my head slowly.“Xena?” he asked, confused.“I’m sorry,” I whispered. “I... I can’t go.”“Why?” His voice cracked. “You said you wanted to leave.”“I thought I did,” I mumbled. “But I don’t know anymore. I just... I need to go back.”He stared at me like I had betrayed him. Maybe I had.Without another word, I turned and walked away. I didn't want to but it was the best choice. I had no option. The guards led me to the car and we drove home. By the time I got back to the house, my feet hurt and my head felt like it was full of bricks. The moment I walked in, I froze, my nose flaring up. Food. Perfect timing. I was thinking I was going to die out of hunger. I followed the scent into the

Xena’s POVThe road back home was quiet. Kael didn’t say much during the drive or when we were in the plane, he had returned to his annoying and dickhead personality. His jaw was clenched, his eyes focused on the road ahead like he was trying to drive away from something in his mind. When we finally pulled into the pack house compound, he killed the engine and looked at me. “I have to take care of something. It's urgent,” he said. Unfortunately I was too slow to get the message. “Don't tell me you want me to walk you inside,” he frowned. My hands moved at instinct, I opened the door and got out of the car, slamming the door shut behind me. The car started almost immediately, driving back to the gate. I rolled my eyes, letting out a faint scoff. I was back to a place where I'm constantly reminded that my secret could be out anytime and they could kill me for it. The door burst opened and Susan ran straight to me, arms wide open, and pulled me into a hug that almost killed me.
