บททั้งหมดของ My Roommate is a Boy: บทที่ 31 - บทที่ 40

RIVERLater that evening, even though I was itching to understand what Taylor meant in the morning, I had managed to spend the day keeping the recurring voice out of my head. By the time I am done hiking up the hill, all I wish for is to taste the rice and kimchi I had last night, and even with the hospitality of the boys, I do not think my social skills could carry me successfully for one night.I enter the house, and a pot seems to be sizzling on the stove while no one is in sight. I walk up to the pot and peep in through the glass cover. Spaghetti is boiling in the pot, and I am not sure if it is supposed to be boiling for this long."What are you doing, sweetheart?""Ah!" I scream, startled by how close he is to me, and I push myself back, my legs betraying me and my body going heavily first for the floor. I close my eyes and brace myself for the impact, but the hard, cold floor never touches my skin. I feel hands holding me, and when I look up, blue eyes are staring at me. I do no

TAYLOR “Good night, sweetheart.” I stand as the door closes in my face and wonder what is going on with me. I had prepared a ticket for her against my will, and all because she asked me about a game in the morning. When the captain asked us to come get our allotted tickets for the game, I had asked him for an extra one."You have to set me up on a date," he had said with all seriousness."For an extra ticket?" I asked, pressing my lip into a line. It made no sense that he would ask me that since we were originally entitled to four tickets per player, but I had always taken only two since I had no one else to invite aside from Hendrix and Noah. Now that I wanted to do a good deed and give it to River and her friends, I needed just one more, and then I will ask my boys to purchase their tickets."You are Jeff, the football captain; you don't need my help getting a date," I said when all he did was nod."Oh well, that does not mean anything to women anymore. When I was in high school, it

RIVEREven when I had left Javier and Matt to go to school, my mind still echoed with Matt's statement. 'Javier is a good guy.' What did he mean by that? Had I misread the relationship between them? I thought they were a couple. Was I wrong? Did Javier like me? It couldn't be; if he liked me, then why would he let Matt tag along as a third wheel? Why was Matt trying to paint him as good to me? I caught myself spiralling for no reason. Why on earth was I letting boys occupy my mind? They weren't the reason I came to the school, so why should I bother myself about it? My plan was to do good and then graduate as the best in the field, and playing around with Javier, Taylor, or Matt was not what I needed."I need to get my life back on track," I murmur out loud, which made both girls sitting at the table with me look at me as though I were crazy."What was that?" Lana asked almost immediately."Nothing," I say, wondering how I had gotten so uncontrollable that I had allowed my thoughts to

RIVERJavier had insisted on my going with the cab to avoid the awkwardness that would linger if we stayed together. I agree and go in the cab. When I open the door, Taylor is standing in the kitchen, gulping down a bottle of juice. His eyes drop on me and make me a bit uncomfortable with his gaze.I step in and drop, standing still as if I were waiting for his approval to go into the room."You are early," he said after he took the bottle from his mouth."I took a cab.""I thought you were taking the bus.""Yes, I was, but I had to take a cab instead," I reply as if I were wishing he would ask me more."You seem really close with Javier. I thought you both just met." I could barely see the emotion behind his question as he now evaded my eyes by turning to throw the empty bottle into the trash bin."Let me guess, you are going to tell me why he is a bad choice and why I should stay away from him?" I do not know why I said that when I obviously did not mean it. He turned to me and clasp

RIVERI stayed awake longer than I would have, waiting on the couch for Taylor to arrive so I could congratulate him on the game. He seemed to be staying out longer than I thought, so I got into my room, but as though he had been waiting for me to get up and leave, the moment I dropped to my bed in annoyance, the door opened, and the movement through the house was as silent as possible. I know that this is my opportunity; I can't try to miss it. So I slip out of the room and stand by the doorway, catching him before he can disappear into his room, as he has always been doing for the past few days."Hi," I say. He had heard me open the door but did not look in my direction until I spoke."Hi," he said. His response was simple and short. The way I would have expected anyone to act, just that his usual teasing smirk and way of talking were gone. I should be grateful, shouldn't I? Why was I not grateful? Why did it matter that he had changed? He stood still with his eyebrow raised in a que
