Derrick's POV “What's wrong?” I asked Eliana as her eyes darted around the restaurant. My gaze followed hers and I noticed that it stopped at a table a few meters away from ours. “Nothing,” she answered quickly, turning back to me with a smile. As I was about to turn back to face her, my eyes fell on Oliver Newton sitting at a table two rows away from us. He looked a little surprised and he turned his face away immediately our eyes met. Strange.“You look pretty. I love the gown,” I said to Eliana, my eyes dancing over her. Pretty was actually an understatement for how she looked. Smiling briefly, she said, “Thank you.”“What would you like to have?” I asked her. I noticed that her eyes were traveling everywhere but my face.“Anything is fine with me.”“Hmm,” I said, raising one hand up to signal for a waiter. One appeared beside us with a menu a few seconds later.I shook my head as he handed it to me. “I wouldn't be needing that. Just give me the cobb salad. Do you wanna try tha

Eliana’s POVI held his gaze briefly and the only thing that stopped me from turning and walking away immediately was Annabelle's presence. A few seconds later, the girl with him followed his gaze to our direction and I looked away instantly. “He’s looking over here,” Annabelle said, pointing out the obvious. “I wonder why.”There was an undertone to that statement but I ignored it. The girl and Professor Matthews finally looked away and I was grateful when someone called Annabelle’s name in the distance. Her eyes scanned the area until she spotted the caller who was beckoning to her. Then she looked back at me and said, “I need to attend to something. I'll text you so we can meet up later or something.”She sounded apologetic and she hesitated after saying it, as if she was trying to reconsider.“That's fine with me. I'm also about to get busy anyway,” I said. The worry in her eyes disappeared after that and she hugged me before finally walking away. As she was going, I turned arou

Eliana's POV The muffled sound of loud music was the first thing I heard as I stepped out of the elevator that night. It was just past eight but I was eager to get into bed and call it a night. After my brief encounter with Professor Matthews that afternoon, Annabelle and a small group of her friends had invited me to go to a park with them. They were having a group hangout and Annabelle had somehow managed to convince them to allow me to come along, even though I didn't know any of them. I had more fun than I expected and I was so tired by the time I got home that the mere thought of having to go to school the next day already seemed like a Herculean task. Surprisingly, Annabelle hadn't said anything at all about the encounter with Professor Matthews but being with her and her friends didn't stop me from thinking about it either. For a moment, I'd been afraid that he was going to kiss me from the way he'd been looking at me and, to be honest, I wasn't sure I would have been able

Derrick's POV “What do you want?” I asked Oliver, surprised and irritated by his presence at the same time. “To put it simply, I want you to suffer,” he answered. We were in my office and he was standing with his back to the door. I'd been rounding up on the assignments I was marking when I’d heard a knock. The door had opened immediately after and I saw him standing there, a mischievous smile on his face. Earlier that morning, I'd gotten weird stares from the students I met on the way to my office. At first, I thought something was wrong with me and I had to check myself repeatedly. Then it occurred to me that students were the only ones staring and I became even more confused. On getting to my office, the list of tasks waiting to be attended to occupied my mind and I forgot about the stares. Now, Oliver was in front of me and everything came back to mind. It couldn't be a coincidence that I'd been getting uneasy stares on my way and he’d suddenly shown up in my office afterwards.

Eliana's POV I got to the park five minutes earlier than Professor Mathews. After what happened during our last meeting, he decided it would be best if we met at anywhere other than a restaurant. I didn't really see the need, since it was highly unlikely that we would encounter Oliver again. But Professor Mathews insisted that it would be safer and I agreed. I was already seated on one of the numerous benches in the park when I caught sight of a mass of black hair with a few grey streaks approaching. He was dressed in a black T-shirt and jeans. Him being dressed casually seemed to have miraculously shaved ten years off whatever his age was. As he approached me, he didn't look any different from a teenager going for a casual hangout with his friends. The only thing that betrayed that impression was the troubled expression sewn onto his face. Even with that, he was still strikingly handsome. One of the many things that had made me risk entertaining my attraction to him in the first p
