Iris blinked at his direct question. Wasn’t it obvious? “Only you can make me happy. I just need your company.” She had no idea where she had found the courage to look directly into his eyes and admit the truth.Speaking the words in her heart, here in the bright daylight in front of him, sent a flush to her cheeks. Who was this desperate Iris?Maddox cocked an eyebrow in disbelief, his gaze dropping to her luscious, full lips. His heart raced like lightning. This was what he had been waiting to hear. “So what do you want to do with me?” he prodded, waiting to hear her say it aloud.“Everything – going out with you, enjoying a cozy movie with you, pouring our hearts out to one another, long moonlit walks, candlelight dinners. I’m sure you’ve got the idea..” She blushed profusely, unable to continue.Maddox shook his head, gazing at her. “No, I haven’t. Is that all you want with me?”Iris blushed, realizing where this was going. “No, I want more.” She tore her gaze and focused on the b

Maddox stared at his phone and groaned to see his attorney’s name flashing on the screen. Why did he have to call him at the wrong time? This had to be important, or Mr. Harold would never have called him repeatedly. He had been avoiding the mess he had created in Vegas, but how long could he escape? His family members, especially his mother, had been driving him crazy. He knew he had been escaping his duties, but what else could he do? He couldn’t push Iris into the eye of the storm. She was too innocent to face his family, especially someone as cunning as Lucille. When Cassandra had failed, how could Iris withstand the cunning woman? “I think you should accept the call, Maddox.” Disappointment was evident on her face, but she tried to hide it. Yet Maddox could see through her fake façade and read her like an open book. “Yes, this should be important. I’ll be right back.” He walked out onto the deck when the call was disconnected. Through the glass sliding doors, he could see Iris

Maddox couldn’t hide his feelings anymore. He had to return to LA at the earliest. Yet his heart didn’t want to. He had to brand his name on every inch of her body first. What if he didn’t get the chance? He wanted to connect deeply with her before facing the storm brewing at home. He knew his parents too well. They would never let go of the chaos he had created. Only he was afraid it would adversely affect Iris. Hiding her in Escapades was therefore the only way to save her because his mom never went there. Going to Escapades was beneath her dignity. “Mmm, how did you know I was craving this ranch sauce?” Iris licked the sauce off her lips, unaware of his hungry look. He grunted and looked away, dying to lick it instead. “I have something you would enjoy more.”“I prefer this cheesy ranch chicken casserole instead.” She chuckled while a warm blush crept up her cheeks. Did he really offer himself or something else? She wasn’t sure.“It’s too early to decide. Are you afraid to try,

After the most blissful sleep of her life, Iris woke up in Maddox’s warm embrace. “Good morning, sunshine! Freshen up fast. We’re going out.” He seemed in no hurry at all. In fact, he didn’t want to go back to his lonely house without Iris. This time, there’ll be no Iris to return home to. He dreaded facing Lucille and his mom. It was difficult to know what plan they were hatching now. “Are we staying here another night?” Iris stretched, looking at the man she had given her everything to. Last night had been the most memorable night of her life. She could almost feel Maddox’s love for her. The tenderness with which he had touched her made her feel like the most treasured one in his life. Did he treat all his hook-ups similarly? Or was she really special?Could she be so lucky? Fate had never been kind to her so far. Could she hope? “We’ll check out after lunch. Stanford is an hour and a half from here. So we should reach by evening. Then dinner with the twins and we can head to LA.”

Maddox handed his father, Eric Laurier, his medicine. At sixty-five, he had led an active life until he suffered a mild cardiac arrest in Maddox’s absence a few days ago.Ever since Maddox had been living here with his parents for the last three days, neglecting his work, his Iris, and his duties. Yet it wasn’t enough for his parents. They compared his negligence to Lennox’s dutiful nature. It didn’t surprise Maddox. He knew they still bore a grudge against him. He just fulfilled his duties, expecting nothing in return. With Camille and Lucille too living here with him, he was under house arrest. Lucille watched his every move like a cop. He wanted to call Iris and update her about his situation, go to Escapades, and meet her. But he couldn’t even step out of the house without his mom’s permission.“Eva, tell your son I can see through his act. I won’t accept any medicine from him. I don’t trust him after what he did to Lennox.” His dad glared at his mom, ignoring the medicine Maddox
