Jasmine stepped forward. “I..I don’t know how to explain it, but when I look at you, I feel like… I feel like something is pulling me towards you, Evans.”Her voice was softer than earlier.Evans nodded. “I feel it too. Isn’t that weird?”Ophelia tightened her jaw as they exchanged words, but she said nothing.“The bond..always recognises what the mind does not,” the female elder said, her smile more knowing.“The bond?” Evans asked as he shifted his gaze to her.Dante stepped forward again, this time annoyance and impatience were written all over his face.“I won’t bow my head to this small boy,” he said. “If he is truly the Alpha we were meant to follow, he would have to prove it.”A ripple of tension spread immediately while Ophelia stepped forward, her hands forming into fists.“Why don’t you face it off with me instead? You know I’d love to prove it to you,” she replied, her voice menacing. Then she looked back at Evans. “Let me handle this.”Evans shook his head slightly. “He is

Evans kept quiet and the tension in the car thickened again. Moments later, the car slowed as they approached his street.“You have a good rest while you are home,” she said softly. “Tomorrow won’t be any easier than today.”Evans nodded. “Yeah.”The car halted a few houses from his, and he attempted to reach for the door handle; he paused.“Ophelia?”“Hmm?”“It is easy for someone to support another, especially when I have no experience with all this. It is new and very strange for me, it must be exhausting and frustrating for you,” he said, and she turned, their eyes met. “Thank you for everything, but I don’t want you to keep things from me, please.”Her expression became softer, but she did not reply. Instead, she reached for a bottle of cologne in her handbag and spread it all over Evans.“What are you doing?” he inquired as he covered his nose slightly.Ophelia slid the cologne back into her bag. “Your mom should believe you spent time with me. Immediately you walk in, the sweet

Jasmine let out a faint breath. “I know. It is hard to believe, but as you said, it is what it is.”Evans slid his backpack off his arms and then placed it on the floor. “This thing I feel whenever you come close… it is not a coincidence, is it?”Jasmine hesitated. It was obvious that Ophelia had not told him about it. He still had other important things to learn and take care of. Knowing whatever the pull was might be too much for him.She pondered what to say.“What the elder said about me getting close to you… that should be it,” she said calmly.Evans leaned back slightly in the chair. “You sound like Ophelia, talking in riddles and words I don’t understand.”“I am not talking in riddles, Evans,” she replied, her tone firmer. “What I said explains everything, but you just don’t understand it yet. That is why you think I’m speaking in riddles.”Evans frowned. “You care to explain?”“Whatever we are feeling right now is called a bond,” she started. “And not all bonds are chosen; som

Shortly after, they arrived at an abandoned building. Ophelia stopped the engine and then stepped out of the car without hesitation. Evans alighted, his eyes scanning the surroundings.“Are you people who are obsessed with abandoned buildings? You know we could rent a field or somewhere okay to train,” He let out flatly.Ophelia stared at him for a moment, then shook her head slightly. “You really are ignorant. We should rent a field with cameras capturing us while we flex our abnormal muscles? Moreover,” she turned her gaze to the building, “this has been our training ground for years. It holds a special significance.”Evans shrugged his shoulders, then followed her into the building. The air was still cold, and the distant hum of the waking city crept into the building. As they got in, weapons of different types that were arranged in well-secured positions caught his attention. There were scratches on the ground and dried blood on the ground.“When does the training begin?” Evans

She scoffed. “Even if I were half, you wouldn’t harm a strand of hair on my head.”One of her fingers twitched slightly at her side, just once.“We can’t afford to continue training like this without you making peace with your inner self,” she added, her tone sharper. “You need control. I might not be the one standing in front of you next time; it could be your mom or the students.”Evans ran his shaky hands through his hair. “But… I think the training triggered whatever that was? Don’t you think so?”Ophelia nodded. “Yes, I think so. That’s why we are going back home to rest and continue the training tomorrow.”She did not wait for his response; instead, she turned and walked away. Meanwhile, Evans swallowed. He felt the weight of what he carried for the first time. Everything happened without him knowing, and he did not even know what had happened, but he could feel the aftermath’s effect on him.He picked up his glasses and dashed over to Ophelia. He caught up with her and walked
