Her dialogue improved massively. Early books had conversations that could feel a bit functional—just moving plot or revealing backstory. In her recent work, dialogue crackles with subtext, hidden agendas, and character-defining quirks. You learn about people not just by what they say, but by what they clumsily avoid saying. That's a mark of a writer who's mastered her craft.
She's a master of the 'slow reveal' now, whereas before it was more of a 'sudden reveal'. Evolution in pacing structure. Early books built to one or two big twists. Recent books are a constant drizzle of reveals, each chapter peeling back another layer. It's a style that hooks you differently—less about the shock ending, more about the addictive process of discovery.
The prose lost some of its 'literary' flourishes and became more transparent. It's a style that serves the story first, not the author's voice. That transparency lets the plot and characters shine without the filter of overly decorative language. It's a mature style for a genre author.

Sapphire - I had never seen a man as drop-dead gorgeous as Dylan. When his steel-grey eyes met mine, I knew I was in trouble. There was no way he would ever see me as anything other than Riley’s little sister. Fine, I am not ugly by any means, but I also know that with my blue hair and tattoos, most guys are turned off, and that doesn’t usually bother me, so why does it bother me regarding him? Of course, I would develop a crush on him. When he and two other teammates of Riley’s move in with us, I know I am in even deeper trouble. I swear, sometimes it appears that he is flirting, and what is with that pet name? There is no way Dylan is interested in me, is there?
Dylan - As soon as her sapphire blue eyes met mine, I knew she was mine. Her brother Riley was my best friend and teammate, so I knew this would be tricky. It became even trickier when I moved in with them. It didn’t take long for Riley to figure it out. Between my flirting and the pet name, I gave her more or less gave it away. We hashed out our problems, but then she was attacked. Now her stepfather has sent people after her; he has no idea who he is up against and who he pissed off. No one touches what is mine, and I claimed Sapphire that night in the bar. My precious jewel is that, MINE! He will regret trying to harm her; they all will.
Jessica Jane is invisible by design.
Quiet, soft spoken, and almost painfully unassuming, she spends her days hidden behind oversized glasses and paint stained hands in her elegant city art gallery. To the people around her, she is simply a gifted but awkward artist, a woman who keeps to herself and pours her emotions into hauntingly beautiful paintings that seem to possess an almost unsettling depth.
Critics call her work raw. Emotional. Alive.
They have no idea how right they are.
Behind the gallery walls lies a secret darker than anyone could imagine. Jessica's masterpieces are not created with ordinary paint. Mixed into every canvas is the blood of the men she chooses as her subjects, men she believes escaped justice, men whose cruelty mirrors the monsters that stole her childhood. By night she becomes someone unrecognisable. Elegant, calculated and merciless, hunting predators who believe they are untouchable.
As her artwork gains international attention and a determined investigator begins noticing disturbing patterns surrounding missing men, Jessica finds herself balancing two identities that are beginning to collide.
Because the closer the world gets to discovering the truth, the more dangerous Jessica becomes.
And buried beneath the blood, vengeance and carefully constructed masks is an even darker question:
Is Jessica Jane delivering justice... or becoming the very thing she has spent her life trying to destroy?

I quit and dipped. City threw a parade.
Only Jenna Blake—my oh-so-gifted junior who claimed she could "see through killers' eyes"—lost it.
At her celebration banquet, she went full drama queen:
"I owe everything to Kate Mercer. Please, bring her back!"
I laughed. Cold. Not happening.
Last time around, I was the hotshot detective. But every clue I found? She dropped it first like she read my mind.
People started saying I was washed.
So I went all in—three months, no sleep, cracked a massive trafficking ring. Led the raid myself.
She beat me there. Again. Place was cleaned out.
Boom. She's the city's golden girl.
I'm the clown with no game.
Pressure got ugly. My head snapped. I died chasing the last scumbag.
Then—bam. I woke up. Same day. Raid morning. Round two.

My childhood friend promised to marry me once we came of age — but at my wedding ceremony, he gave my wedding ring to my stepsister, Summer Hugh.
At the time, it was Victor Lowell, the fearsome mafia heir, who saved me by publicly announcing he had loved me for years.
In the five years we had been married, he would fulfill every wish I had, even those I mentioned offhand. I truly believed I was the center of his world.
All that changed when I stumbled across a top-secret folder as I was cleaning his bookshelf. The very first page was a file on Summer, with three red words printed in bold, “Top protection priority.”
It was followed by a mission report I knew too well.
On the night of the mission, there had been an attempt on my life. My blood had almost run dry before I was saved. When I woke up at the hospital, I found out that I had lost a baby I did not know I had been carrying.
I wept bitterly in Victor’s arms, but I did not tell him about the baby. I did not want him to worry about me more.
Now, I finally found out — Summer had been attacked that night as well, and Victor’s orders had been: “Save Summer first.”
My tears soaked into the paper, smudging his handwriting.
“Alright,” I said softly but firmly into the silence. “If my marriage had been a lie all along, I’ll disappear from your life. Forever.”
I think a lot about her use of dual timelines. She didn't really employ it in her first decade of writing. Now, it's a staple. And she's so good at it—making the past timeline not just backstory, but an active, unfolding mystery parallel to the present. The intercutting creates this relentless comparative tension. You're constantly looking for clues in the past that explain the present. This structural sophistication is a massive evolution from the linear, chronological storytelling of her early career, and it's a big reason her recent books are so hard to put down.
The pacing is where the change is most technically evident. The early novels took their time, building character and setting. Now, the hooks are immediate and visceral—a body, a disappearance, a bizarre confession on page one. The psychological unraveling happens at a breakneck speed, mirrororing the compulsive, binge-ready nature of modern reading habits. She's adapted to the 'just one more chapter' ethos perfectly.
They're just better plotted. Sorry, not sorry! The early books are charming character studies, but they can feel a bit aimless, like life. The thrillers are meticulously constructed puzzles. Every character, every subplot, every thrown-away line in chapter three pays off by the end. It's immensely satisfying. You can tell she's become a master architect of plot, whereas before she was more of a delightful chronicler of character. The thrillers give you both—the deep characters AND the ingenious, watertight plot. That's a hard combo to beat.
