Plot of Becoming My Ex's Mother in Law

Crystal is sentenced to six years in prison for her fiancé Bob's crimes. Notwithstanding having to serve time for a crime she didn't commit, she suffers further humiliation when she learns that Bob has started a new relationship with Lisa Dubois, the daughter of Andrew Dubois, a renowned hotel billionaire and the current Governor of California, who is running for a second term.

To add insult to injury, Bob reveals that he squandered Crystal's entire savings on high-risk stock investments that, unsurprisingly, went south. Now broke, Crystal is struck with the realization that she has to find a job in record time-not an easy feat considering her tarnished criminal record. Luckily, she gets hired as a wedding planner at her friend's business, which just so happens to be the same business Andrew chose to plan his daughter's (Bob's new fiancée's) wedding. This opportunity allows Andrew to become closely acquainted with Crystal, much to Bob's and Lisa's dismay.

This seemingly fortunate turn of events comes with its own challenges. Crystal faces hostility from both her new family and her workplace.
