Keeping her from slipping into the quiet he had shown her before. “You don’t have to,” he said. Her heart slammed painfully against her ribs. “You said there was a cost.” “Yes.” She swallowed thickly. “Say it again.” A pause. Then, closer still, his voice lowered—not in secrecy, but in intimacy. “You will not belong to heaven,” Malachor said. “You will not be reclaimed by a god who mistook your endurance for obedience. You will stand where I stand—between endings. You will see what others refuse to look at. You will carry what is cast away.”

Ian followed Yolanda down into a sub-basement. They walked down a ramp from outside the packhouse to a vault door. It was a typical vault door. If a person ignored the glowing runes around the door. It was unnerving to see something he would expect in a horror movie. “What are the marks for? Symbols?” Yolanda laughed as she opened the heavy door.

If hell exists, there's an inferno waiting for me. I swerve around a pothole on the blacktop. In less than fifteen minutes, all hell will break loose. I survived seven years in prison, but my chances of surviving what's next are about nil. The men riding behind me know what we're heading into and, like me, they're ready to die.

There is a small gate for maids to enter and leave from mansion after their work. When I closed the gate slowly I felt tears rolling down on my cheeks due to happiness. Finally, finally I got out from this prison after my six months of torture life. I take a look at the huge Khurana mansion for one last time. I will never ever come back to this hell. Hugging my bag close to me I ran from there with all my energy.

When he got to where I was, he held out the tool for me to see clearly "Please." I continued struggling against the bindings desperately. When he reached out to grab my arm, I suddenly froze, closing my eyes and turning my face away. "You Thompsons have heartlessly killed so many of our kind. You killed even those who never killed a human for centuries. You've tortured us and hunted us like Prey." Venom dripped from his voice. The darkness in his eyes intensified as he trailed the knife over my skin teasingly. I couldn't stop trembling in utter terror.

He doesn't deserve anything or any form of consideration from me for screwing me over the way he did. When I get to the huge gates leading to the mansion, I get the feeling that something is off. I soon understand what's wrong when I honk for several minutes for the person manning the gate to open it, yet nothing happens, and no one appears. Christ! Are we so broke that my dad can't afford to keep even one person to man the damn gates? Sighing in exasperation, I get down from my car and walk up to the imposing gate to look up at it.

She believed he would perform a miracle! Inside the room, Chase looked at the elderly Mr. Cooper lying in bed and shook his head while saying, “You’re fortunate to have met me. I’ve inherited the 13 Needles of Hell’s Gate from the old man, and this technique is known to pull the dead back from the gates of Hades himself.”

It drizzled in the early morning. I put on a black dress and stood in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking out at the grey sky outside. "Donna Quinn, the car is ready." George stood at the door, followed by two Soldati. I nodded, took an umbrella, and walked out of the manor. The two Soldati sent by Sebastian flanked me. The car stopped at the entrance of the cemetery in the western suburbs. I walked up to my parents' tombstones and slowly knelt down.

Massive waves crashed against jagged rocks below while storm clouds churned overhead. Lightning illuminated the horizon. Not white lightning. Silver. The same silver that lived inside the gates. The same silver that flowed through my blood. A city stood beneath the cliff. Ancient. Enormous. Half submerged beneath the sea. Its towers rose from the water like the bones of something long dead. And at the center stood another gate. The Third Gate. Larger than Blackthorn's. Larger than the desert gate. Its surface glowed beneath the storm while hundreds of figures moved around it.
