I let my eyes flutter closed as I tried to will myself to do such a thing. The image of Calix was burned into the side of my brain, but I had to pull away from the awful encounter; otherwise, I was likely going to pass out.
“That’s it,” he urged. “Deep breath in, hold it in for three seconds, and then let it out. Again.”
I spent the next several minutes following his instructions until I found my stability. Blinking back the blurriness from my eyes, I glanced up at him with a hurt expression.
