It wasn't just me who heard what Hubert Lock said. His parents heard them too. Laidman Lock immediately raised a hand and smacked Hubert lightly on the arm, irritation creeping into his voice. "What kind of nonsense are you talking about? Who jokes with their wife like that?" Michelle Lock quickly patted the back of my hand and comforted me softly. "Crystal, don't take it to heart. It's April Fools' Day, isn't it? Hubert was just being thoughtless and making a joke."

Today was probably April fool's day and they thought that the best victim to prank would be someone who was already pathetic like me. No, I wasn't allowing it. I slowly went back into my house as they began to charge at each other. I ran to my calendar and checked the date. It was July 7. I already knew we were in July but somehow I wanted to believe I was being pranked because what was happening couldn't be real.

Jackie stated while licking her fingers that were covered in sauce. “Do not sign a prenup” she said. “Jackie!” The rest girls hollered. I laughed, feeling lighter than I had since I walked out of the hospital. “I hear you, Jackie,” I replied with a smile. Just then, July returned from the bathroom with her arms crossed like a stern teacher. “I go to the bathroom for just four minutes, and you all want to blow my cousin's head off with your chaos. Can't the four of you pretend to be civilized, just for tonight?”

Heavy with shit we weren’t saying. I cleared my throat. “Alright. That’s enough depressing hospital talk. You know what would really make my day better?” He glanced at me, brows raised. “A really dumb joke.” Andrew blinked. Then tilted his head a little, lips twitching like he was fighting a smile. “A dumb joke?” I nodded, lips curving around the cigarette still hanging from my mouth. “Come on. Hit me.” He gave me a look—half skeptical, half amused. “Fine. What do you call a sad strawberry?”

The room went dead quiet when I said I would take the prize, but that quiet did not last. A second later, laughter thundered through the air. Lily Smith was the loudest, doubling over with tears streaming from her eyes. "How else could she be the top seller?" she cackled. "A woman like her has to have skin as thick as a rhino." I ignored her snide comments and kept my cool. "Just to be clear," I said, "since the company so generously 'rewarded' me with bathroom duty, that's all I'll be doing for the next three days. Everything else is off my plate."

I read my message again. Me: ‘Thoughts of cuddling, Hand holding, Eye contact… That kind of disgusting stuff.’ Yup! It does sound like a joke. I give it a long thought and type my message away. 42. Not sure why my drunk genius brain thought it was a good idea.’ Jacob: ‘I am such a jerk, didn’t even ask you if it would be alright if I pick you up from Ira’s place at noon.

“Ahahaha!” The third baby told the joke that was obviously funny to the fourth, ‘cause his lovely laughter filled the room and he realized it was the voice that had brought him up his feet. He watched the fourth fall on his back from his laughter, getting up again to listen to the third speak before crying out again.

he exclaimed. “Y-yes sir!” The nervous looking man, stood up and gave a salute. “HAHAHAHA” They all laughed at him. “Dude you don’t have to be wimp we were just messing with you HAHAHAHA” July told him, he was laughing so hard that he almost lost his breathe. “Hehehe” Wayne laughed embarrassingly.

My father and brothers were still fighting bloody battles on the border, and I hadn’t waited for Haydn to come back and tell him that I loved him. April: Bella, are you okay? Me: Yeah, I am okay. How about you? April: (depressed, lying down) No, I am not okay. Me: Hmm... let me tell you a joke. April: What joke? Me: We're still alive. April: Is that it? What kind of joke is that? "Yeah.. shit I'm sorry.. here's a paper that tells you what you should do." I looked at the paper and started reading it. But then Shit.... I furrowed my brows, "this paper literally says "what you should do... "" "I know..." I smiled, "ahh.. I get the joke.." She nodded a bit, "yep.. that was the joke." This was awkward as fuck! If it was four years ago this would have been funny as fuck.. but now this shit was just awkward. I laughed a bit, "umh yeah it's funny.."
