Elara's POV Silence had fallen over the coastal city. I stood on the balcony of my small, rented apartment, pulling a silver dagger from the leather satchel at my hip. It was the last thing my father gave me, its hilt carved with the ancient runes of our pack. Moonlight caught the edge of the blade, glinting cold and sharp. I tightened my grip and drew a deep cut across my left palm. Blood welled up instantly, a vibrant crimson in the moonlight.

He brought a shaky hand over my chest not sure what he should do. Moments later my father also slid to my side. I looked into his eyes as the tears ran down his face. I watched his eyes glaze over as he linked someone. I felt myself fading, I felt the strands of my tether breaking as they snapped one by one. Moments later the twins were standing behind my father as they cried. My sister's hands over her mouth as she broke down. Xavier standing behind Damien with a shocked and sad look on his face. I felt my body shaking and trembling as I continue to cough up blood. My eyes felt heavy as the link continued to break. My chest and insides burning, telling me there's wolfsbane on the knife.

You forget to interact with people and you forget to feel anything except the pain that you had kept in for so long. And then she came into my life. “But it’s the weight that’ll break you.” We circled each other on a floor made of stars and ash. “You think cruelty makes you unbreakable,” I spat back. “But it just makes you empty.” She struck again, and I barely dodged it. The edge of her blade nicked my arm, and the sting was real. Too real. Blood beaded on my skin—so whatever this illusion was, it still had the power to wound. “You let love slow you down,” she said. “You let Kael hold you back.”

I paused, as the glass shattered in my grip, blood pouring out but I didn't care. “Please tell me you taught the guy a lesson.” “I nearly killed him.” Briar nodded slowly, not surprised. “Did you?” “No. I pounded his face into the floor.” There was a long silence. I took another drink. “So… what happened next?” he asked cautiously. “Did she give you an explanation?” “She defended him, so I broke the bond.” Briar stared at me, blinking like he didn’t hear right. “You what?” “I broke the fucking bond, Briar.” My voice rose, cracking. “I cut her off, It’s over.”

“You’re just saying this to break me.” “I don’t need to break you,” Blake said simply. “I just need you to be bait.” For a moment, I was almost grateful for the solid wooden chair holding me down. My whole life was dissolving. It was like standing on a beach in a storm, ferocious waves tearing the ground out from under my feet until there was nothing left to stand on.

And when they finally fell into place, I found a love more beautiful than anything I’d ever imagined. I found a man I adore more than anything in the world, and the bond between us burns so bright.
