Second in Silence

Second in Silence

I was done watching their drama and walked away. Olivia had given me a few days off and even booked me a week-long getaway to Sunny Bay. However, on the day I was set to leave, Emily blocked my path. I stepped out of the car with a frown. "Emily, what are you freaking out about now?" When Emily looked up, I was taken aback by the two angry red streaks on her face. Without thinking, I asked, "Did Charles hit you?" She shook her head, her voice filled with desperation. "There's a coffee shop just around the corner. Can we talk? It'll only take half an hour. I promise I won't be a bother."

His Silent Luna

His Silent Luna

He nodded to me, and motioned for silence. “That print doesn’t belong to one of ours,” he whispered. “And you said none of your agents should be in this area?” he asked Marcus. Marcus bent close to the print, probably checking the scent. “It is not one of mine,” he reported, voice sober. “All right then. This training patrol just became the real thing,” Ronan said. “That’s fine. Clara, you stay in the lead. Marcus, you fan out a little to her right, I’ll take the left. Anyone spots another sign, signal silently.”

After, The Silence

After, The Silence

The silence followed Jordan into her dreams. Not the gentle kind that came with sleep, but the heavy, pressing quiet that wrapped around her thoughts and refused to let go. When she woke, it was with the sense that something had been left unfinished, and words unsaid, choices delayed too long. Jay was already gone. Again. Jordan lay still for a moment, staring at the ceiling as pale morning light traced familiar shadows across the room. She counted her breaths. In. Out. Steady. Controlled. It was easier to begin the day when she reminded herself not to expect anything different.

Dead Weight

Dead Weight

Quiet is not the same as peace. Maya knows this because the base is quiet in at least twelve different unhealthy ways. There is the quiet of people pretending not to talk about her. The quiet of people very much talking about her behind water tanks, curtain walls, laundry lines, and one suspiciously philosophical stack of bean crates. And then there is the quiet Eli Carrasco carries with him. That one is different. That one does not push. Which is, frankly, rude.

The Day She Stopped Waiting

The Day She Stopped Waiting

Very fair. Reasonable, actually. Then Adrian quietly placed a hand on her shoulder. Not saying anything. Not needing to. Because he understood. Perfectly. Then another pulse rolled across the sky. BOOOOOOOOM. Everyone in the airport froze. The golden crack brightened. For one brief second— the entire night became daylight. Then darkness returned. People screamed. Cars stopped. Sirens erupted. And somewhere in the distance— something answered. A sound. Low. Ancient. Impossible.

NeNe Eugene
10 chapters in and I hope it’s second chance book. I love a good “leaving my shitty husband for a better man” plot but sometimes I love a good “I need to get my wife back” plot as well. Sometimes I want to read about how a relationship was pulled back from the brink and I feel this is goi to be it.

The Coming of the Quiet Rain

The Coming of the Quiet Rain

“Jake, you disgust me. “I don’t want to talk about this anymore. Sign the papers. I will never forgive you again.” Jake still wanted to defend himself, but I no longer had the patience to listen to him. I had my parents chase him out, and one of them stayed outside my ward so that he could not come in. Despite this, Jake did not give up. He flooded my WhatsApp with messages. [Honey, I’m really sorry. Why don’t you take a few days to calm down before we talk again? Rest for now. Do you want anything to eat? I’ll send it to you once I make it. Focus on getting better first.]

The Quiet Conspiracy

The Quiet Conspiracy

"Mom, Dad, this is my friend, Fiona. Her staff dorm is being renovated, so she's gonna stay with us for a few days." My sister, Judy Floyd's, voice crashed over the room like thunder. I looked up. Judy was bouncing with excitement as she introduced her friend, Fiona Shepard, to my parents. Fiona was a young woman with a cool, slightly embarrassed face. "Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd. I'm Fiona. Thank you so much for having me. I honestly didn't know where I'd go."

The Quiet Exit

The Quiet Exit

A walking ATM to clean up her messes, or a trash bin that would take anything she threw at me? Anger and disgust surged in me, making my whole body tremble. I almost lost control and charged in. Just as I lifted my foot, my phone vibrated in my pocket. It was a text from Victor Smart, the CEO of SkyTech Group. [Mr. Conner, when can you start? We need you to host the bidding conference in three days.] I looked at the two bodies tangled together on the couch, my chest tight with pain, and replied, [Tomorrow.]

He's Rich, She's a Cop: The Miami Love Story

He's Rich, She's a Cop: The Miami Love Story

But deep in her gut, something whispered. This is too perfect. Too still. Too quiet. The silence wasn’t peace. It was the stillness before a lightning strike. Amelia’s eyes were on Leah now. Ben’s fingers tapped a code into his tablet, quietly sending a signal through secure lines. They didn’t know what was coming, but they knew one thing for certain… The quiet they had grown used to was gone. The hum had returned. And it had chosen this day to make itself known. The thread was tugging again.
