Liam whispers, pausing before a heavy iron door embedded deep in the damp subterranean wall.
"Good," I say, stepping past him and pressing my bare, smoking palm directly against the manual biometric scanner beside the lock.
"Aiden, wait, that system is dead—" Liam starts, but he stops as a low, mechanical hum vibrates through the metal door.
The red light on the scanner flickers, turns yellow, and then flashes a brilliant, welcoming green. The heavy bolts slide back with a resounding thud.
I turn to Liam, my eyes flashing with a cold, digital light that isn't entirely human.
