Just one thing in the center— An old well. Sealed with a massive stone, wrapped in heavy rusted chains. My heart thudded painfully. Something inside me… pulsed. I stepped closer. His body pressed against mine until my breasts smashed against the cold tile. It was a stark contrast to the heat I felt inside me. I cried out, sliding my chest over the wall. His arm snaked around my waist and tugged me against him. “Oh god,” I groaned. “Shh,” he whispered. “I’m trying,” I whimpered. He shifted, plunging deeper inside me. His thrusting speed increased, driving me against the wall of the shower. I pushed backward, using my hands to shove off the wall.

If he could at least get some water, that would be great! He rubbed his eyes—he was right, it was not an illusion, there really was a well! He did not know where he had the strength, but he used all his might to approached the well. When he looked into the well, he was floored. The well was deep—meters deep—but the water was little. The only way to drink the water was to enter into the well! He wiped his cracked lips, and with all his strength, he supported himself by pressing against the wall of the well with his palms, and let himself down slowly.

He inadvertently lowered his eyes and suddenly saw several holes in the ground where the drops of water were. Samuel squatted down and found that the holes corresponded to the drops of water above. Although each hole was not big, its depth could almost be described as bottomless. Instead of emitting energy to destroy, the energy of the stone sucked back inward, like it was pulling back into itself. Everyone froze. Even the fighting stopped for an instant. Slowly, the humming died down until it was completely dead.

My fingers, raw and bloody, had pried at a loose stone. Now, I wedged my fingers into the crack and pulled. The stone—bigger than my head—shifted with a grating whisper. It came free, revealing a black hole just big enough to squeeze through. A damp, colder air breathed out from it, smelling of minerals and deep, deep time. I did not go in yet. First, the veil.

After about twenty minutes, we discovered that the taps might just be a life-saver after all. The moment his axe touched a stone in front of us, the rock dropped out from under the axe head and vanished into the floor. We all froze, listening for the sound of it hitting something below. There was none. “Fantastic,” Dominic muttered. “An endless fall to doom.”

It came from the shadows of the well itself. “Task Two: The serpent strikes at noon. Do not avoid the fall. If you do not enter the water, the Shadow of Death will pull you into the void instead. You have ten seconds.” My blood turned to ice. What? He wanted me to fall? If I fell into that well, I would drown. The trail of rose petals led her deeper into the forest, she kept her eyes on the ground, searching for the next petal, her fingers brushing against the soft petals as she picked them up one by one and thrusting them into her pocket. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, she saw it—the stone well, half-hidden behind trees. Her breath came in ragged gasps as she neared the well, her legs burning with exertion. She collapsed beside it, panting heavily, her hands clutching the rough stones for support. Peering into the shallow well, she squinted, trying to make out the objects at the bottom.
