Adam laughed, pulling me closer on the porch swing, the lake gone dark and quiet beyond the garden, the first faint green shoots of the wildflower bed barely visible in the fading light, holding inside them the promise of something that would keep returning, year after year, long after the dirt under our fingernails had washed away and the day itself had become just another good memory in the growing collection of them. "Thank you," I said quietly, "for teaching our son that love is something you grow on purpose. Not just something that happens to you." Adam pressed a kiss to my temple. "He taught me that," he said. "I'm just trying to keep up."

“Which is you, obviously.” Adam smirks, meeting my gaze. “They’re irrelevant. But… ‘love’… I like that word.” He turns on the shower, but we remain locked in our posture. “Speaking of love, I know we’re not in love, but what’s your love language?” I ask. Adam takes his time before replying. “On the physical side… I would say kissing. I love kissing to bits and touching, too. “I think you could foreplay for a whole night and cum with that rather than having sex.”

Ruby was frozen where she stood, unable to immediately comprehend Adam's words in her mind.

"We should do it more often, Ruby really made me feel terrible about myself, love sucks, she's probably with the other dude" Adam watched Nate go on and on, talking about love and being hurt. He glanced at his watch for the seventh time, Katie was supposed to arrive about twenty minutes ago. He sighed, she was always late. Their relationship wasn’t in a great shape either but he was ready to drown himself to forget about her. He agreed with Nate, all love ever did was hurt. "Have you ever been in love?" Nate asked. Adam suppressed his laughter. He found drunken Nate quite funny. "Well, I have but it didn't work out, love doesn't exist" Adam yelled over the loud music, taking his second shot.

“What… are you saying, Adam?” Adam takes my hand, leaning closer. “Katarina, I’m sorry. I should have told you this sooner. But… I knew your mom.” “What?” I yank my hand away, my face twisting with disbelief and disgust. “What the fuck are you talking about, Adam?” Zane growls. “I was your mom’s ally,” Adam admits. “But… I was also more than that.” He pauses, studying my face. “I was her lover.” What? My face crumples. A storm of emotions tears through me, rage, pain, confusion.

When I felt it was safe to speak, I slowly uttered a few words of comfort. “You love her all this time…” Adam didn't say anything, but I noticed a sudden change in him. His pupils dilated immediately once the word love left my lips, and I couldn't help but feel my heart racing a bit faster than before. “We are all human and mistakes can happen, you never meant to do it on purpose. I can see the realization that she was close to your heart is why you see her in me in some way. Adam, it's not that you don't like me for who I am; rather, it's because of your fondness for her. You don't accept me because you think I'm like her but instead because I remind you of her and how much she meant to you

Though there is no white that is not black and there is no black without white. We are too busy to follow the stigma, forget ourselves, wear masks to be accepted and deny all our feelings and in the end we forget ourselves and be shackled in pseudo happiness. Even though we will be happy if we can be ourselves and accept who we are. Love is very mysterious and difficult to understand. It came and went arbitrarily without our permission. Love turns us into dolls that are controlled arbitrarily. We cry and laugh because of it and sometimes we change into others just because of love.

I said and saw Adam's eyes widening. "Did.....did he said anything about the person he loves?" He asked as curiosity raged in me. But is it curiosity or plain frightening?. "Nothing. He just said that the guy got married to another woman, a beautiful one and he loves that woman and also that that guy's finally happy." I said and Adam narrowed his eyerbows. "Love my ass." I heard him whisper. "Did you say something?" I asked as the earlier whisper was unclear. "Nothing. I was thinking something." He said and sat back on his seat without slouching.
