“Christopher! He attacked us with an army,” Her words tumble out in a breathless rush, and as she steps into the basement, I have to reach out to steady her, feeling her shaking frame. “If it wasn’t for Zombie… we would all be dead.”
“Zombie?!” My eyebrows knit together in confusion as I turn my gaze to the man she mentioned, who steps hesitantly from the shadows of the tunnel. His appearance is disheveled; dirt clings to his skin and his once-white hair is now a muddy brown, making him almost unrecognizable and strikingly similar to Adis. “Is it really so hard to believe I could help?” he asks, his voice gravelly and laced with defiance.
