That morning, Tanya had made a mistake during a group drill, and then I heard Tarek mutter something under his breath about “the Alpha’s pet project.” Some of the other warriors who were standing close to him let out low chuckles and while I didn't think Tanya heard him, I definitely did. The growl rose in my throat before I could stop it. “Watch your mouth, Tarek.” He blinked, surprised. “What? I didn’t—” “You didn’t what? Think I would hear you?” I stepped closer to him, letting my Beta’s authority press down on him. “She’s here to train, same as you. You ever have a problem with that, you bring it to me.”

My emotions were a mess but I didn’t want them to know that, especially not Tyrone. “They’ll probably tell you this at the hospital too, but I wanted to inform you in case you weren’t aware of it.” He paused and lowered his voice even though it was still loud enough for everyone to hear. “You’re Omega is underweight. With her heat so close it’s best to stick to a healthy balanced diet.” “Thank you,” Tyrone growled through clenched teeth. “Have a good night.” I watched from beneath my lashes as he walked to the ambulance and climbed in. A moment later they drove off and disappeared into the dark night.
